Tragedy chanting

At Old Trafford both clubs have issued statements.
BURNLEY CLUB STATEMENT

We are aware of offensive footage currently circulating on social media from the away end of today’s fixture at Old Trafford.
Tragedy related gesturing and chanting is completely unacceptable, and Burnley Football Club take a zero-tolerance approach.
We will continue to work with Greater Manchester Police, Lancashire Police and Manchester United to help identify and prosecute the individuals responsible.

Identify them
And ban them for life
And keep doing this until these idiots are completely excluded once and for all

From social media it appears to be one bloke. There's no doubt he's a **** and I hope he never steps foot inside a football ground again, but ought the club not think of proportionality when they put out statements that imply this might be a widespread thing?

They said it was wide spread throughout football, not the Burnley away fans.
There can't be any proportionality, because one case is one case too many.

I'm glad it's been highlighted, not seen the video but glad that it appears the individual is easily identifiable. Should be banned for life, if only to deter the other morons from embarrassing the club.

These people are low life. Wind up merchants who enjoy causing trouble. Man U also have a fair number in their midst as they bait Liverpool with their own chants.

The complete absence of braincells it takes to do this sort of thing blows my mind. The Club is right to make a strong statement, it serves no good trying to minimise it especially when it costs nothing to make an unequivocal statement like they have.

There was a group of 4-5 young lads trying to get the Jack Walker song going yesterday, my dad turned to me and said “I just don’t get it, why sing **** like that”
20 years ago I’d probably have joined in, thankfully I think most of us now realise how stupid it is and don’t sing offensive stuff…

One bloke doing the plane impersonation 3 rows in front of me. I asked the steward after the game had finished why she hadn’t done anything. She said “it’s not in my row!’ Ehhhh!!!!!!!!!!

Is this the new trendy thing? Video away fans and hope you catch something that you can put on the internet to provoke a reaction?

Granted it's normally Liverpool fans that seem to do it, but just recently it seems to be every game.

Of course it shouldn't happen and I don't agree with it, but how pathetic that football is now a "grass" culture

I’m comfortable with someone mocking the deaths of young men in a tragic accident being “grassed up”.

At the Everton away game recently there were 2 blokes and a young boy on the back row of the lower tier towards the segregation barrier with the Everton fans.

I would guess one of these men was in his late 30's with very distinct tatoos around his face and neck, the other man would have possibly been in his 50's.
The young boy maybe around 11 or 12 years old?

Allegedly these 3 were Burnley fans.

Throughout the game they were singing songs and chanting sometimes vile abuse at Dwight McNeil.
Several other Burnley fans along with Everton fans on the other side of the segregation barrier reported them to stewards.

For a while the stewards kept an eye on them but it wasn't until the closing stages of the game that they were spoken to by a steward.

It was bad enough singling out Dwight McNeil in that way but some of the things that those 3, including the young boy, were singing/shouting was disgusting.

After the steward had spoken to them a police officer stood behind them for the remaining few minutes of the game.

I would have thought that the absolute minimum would have been to escort them out of the ground, but no they were allowed to stay inside until the final whistle.

No deterent for them at all, and they will probably continue this type of behaviour at other Burnley away games.

These weren't young lads with a few pints inside them but 2 very much older blokes showing a very poor example to the young boy who was with them.

I simply do not understand why when a team score a goal, the first reaction isn't to celebrate the goal but goad other fans,it happens at every club not just ours TBH it just sums up the delinquents who infest society.

I’m all for punishing the idiot filmed doing this stuff, but am less comfortable with how these days the media pick a trendy topic for over the top coverage. I struggle to see how this differs from singing about Jack Walker on the carpet (also abhorrent, chanting about death, and sung by pea sized brains), nor do I see why it is more important that when fans get their brains bashed in on concourses by coke addled louts. If the media always single out a very small minority, this stuff will never be off our screens. Just let the rest of us enjoy the moment, but by all means seek the guy out behind the scenes.

Poor lad probably was distressed. I hope it hasn’t put him off going to future away games.
If the moron and the ginger one by the stewards saw this footage this morning they should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.

Embarrassing for him and the club. There should have been nothing but positive headlines for us yesterday, instead one idiot ruins it.

At least he will have plenty of free Saturday afternoons to contemplate his actions over the next few years when his banning order arrives.

Nobody's ruined nothing anybody with a singular braincell & upwards will realize 1 idiot is not representative of the whole fanbase. It should be embarrassing for 1 person & 1 person only & everything else should be distanced as far as possible.

Football tragedy chanting can now be prosecuted as a public order offence. If found guilty the Crown can apply for a football banning order.

Happens loads, it's not a specific Burnley thing. Obviously he was a knobhead but let's calm down a bit. It's not ruined anything other than his own weekend now it's come to light. He'll get a ban and rightly so.

Thew whole thing is as weird as it is pathetic. Some guy referencing a tragic accident which happened before he was born, being filmed by people who weren't born at the time, reporting their offence to the world of social media for likes.

From social media it appears to be one bloke. There's no doubt he's a **** and I hope he never steps foot inside a football ground again, but ought the club not think of proportionality when they put out statements that imply this might be a widespread thing?
Totally moronic thing to do but yes I agree the statement does imply it was a widespread thing.

Your second paragraph perfectly sums up the state of today's world.
