The biggest issue for me is what I've heard and seen. I pointed out some time ago when Kompany did an interview pre Christmas where he said in order for is to improve we needed "better" personnel. I was laughed at for mentioning it but as I said at the time it goes against everything I know about management. Kompany will do well for a market leader in its respective division because it's possible to just get better players. But he's never going to be successful with us in the PL if that's his philosophy. I look at the business we've done and we replaced potential with potential that has a slightly higher pedigree. We've not done anything in terms of style, tactics or athleticism to try and earn our place in this league, we've just tried to get better players and hoped it would carry us through.

I wholeheartedly agree with this and have said similar.

If we want to spend more than the odd season in the PL then we need a manager that can get results without being a consistent top 10 spender because we will never be that in the money league.

Good point, goalies generally peak much later in their careers. A young one may have bags of potential but it's rare that they will be able to operate at the highest levels until they have a good amount of experience under their belt.

There were possibly some dull but experienced keepers out there. That said the issues with the team shouldn't be solely predicated on the goalie. We have been left wanting in most areas of the pitch.

Of course we have been found wanting in other areas but I think had whoever played at back 4 in the first 28 games of the season had muric behind them they would have played with much more confidence. I don’t think we would have turned the ball over anywhere near as much as we did with Trafford in goal. Trafford made some good saves in the games he played as has muric in the games he’s played but the clear difference in ball playing is there to see.
