Palace turn down £15.5 million for manager
Apparently, they've turned down a £15.5 million offer from Bayern Munich for manager Oliver Glasner.

They will now lost the first 5 next season and sack him and have to pay him to leave

Be interesting to see what he thinks of that if true.
Palace have some cracking young players to work with, but their ceiling is somewhat lower than Bayern.

It's not surprising when things are going right clubs get attention & managers/players get picked off & prised away. it's not just OG in demand Newcastle are after Dougie Freedman to replace dan ashworth I've been reading & he probably deserves just as much credit as OG for identifying the talent in olise & eze to name 2.

People on here definitely noticed Eze was good. Even I noticed Wharton was. Please can I have one of them jobs.

You spotted them on the telly. They probably spotted them on an estate in inner London. Bit different.

They spotted them playing for other clubs Wharton at Blackburn, Eze at QPR and Olise at Reading. None of them came through Palaces youth systemClockwork Claret wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 6:57 amYou spotted them on the telly. They probably spotted them on an estate in inner London. Bit different.

Unknown to us but we'd be the last club out of the starting blocks if they was any sort of sniff of talent. I've said it for yonks the club aren't smart enough scouting or don't box clever enough in the transfer market.CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 8:45 amOlise was in the youths forever at Chelsea and City! We’ve signed about 35 players in 2 years.

I'm talking about quality over quantity.

Head in the clouds!
I’m sure we identified all those quality people you want but they wouldn’t come here because a) Burnley b) wages c) Relegation scrap d) Burnley
Not really our fault

Re: Palace turn down £15.5 million for manager
Well if we are talking about olise & eze & Wharton we aren't actually talking about them players leaving Barcelona man city or Juventus. I'm sure we could have lured them away from QPR & Reading (had we got there first) if we aren't more of an attractive proposition than them there's nothing left to say really. We are supposed to be a club on the up with promising growth.CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 9:14 amHead in the clouds!

Not a cat in hell's chance we are more attractive than Crystal Palace and probably haven't been since the 1960's.

We did well with Austin/Ings/Keane/Tarkowski/Beyer/Zaroury/Tella/Maatsen/Benson/MUric etc etc.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 8:49 amUnknown to us but we'd be the last club out of the starting blocks if they was any sort of sniff of talent. I think there's a lot we do wrong but saying we aren't smart with our scouting is absolute nonsense. You could also argue that we did well to get Twine who was very highly rated as well.as Amdouni. However they have both failed to live up to the hype, which is the risk with making that type of signing.

Losing money hand over fist & servicing debt loans isn't wise astute business believe me.Goliath wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 10:39 amWe did well with Austin/Ings/Keane/Tarkowski/Beyer/Zaroury/Tella/Maatsen/Benson/MUric etc etc.

Re: Palace turn down £15.5 million for manager
It really isn't as simple as putting a contract in front of someone and saying 'Sign here' regardless of finding someone first, as unlikely as it would be for us anyway.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 10:43 amYou'll have to point out where somebody said we are. Re: Palace turn down £15.5 million for manager
What? That's nothing to do with what you said. You were talking about us not being smart in the transfer market or with our scouting.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 10:45 amLosing money hand over fist & servicing debt loans isn't wise astute business believe me.
I think the depth of our scouting is probably our biggest strength at the moment and the big advantage we have over the Dyche years where we just didn't have that depth so we're limited with where we could sign players from.

Well when palace went in for them 2 nobody else was interested & it really is that easy. You act early & put yourself in an advantageous position.

I'm guessing we were slow out the blocks for the likes of Koleosho, McNeil, Cahill, Trippier and Mee to name a few too over the years.
The difference with Eze and Olise is they were never going to pick us over Palace. One of the main reasons being they were born and raised only 11 and 13 miles from Selhurst Park respectively.

I'm talking about us not being smart in anything generally speaking the transfer market is just on a long list.Goliath wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 10:52 amWhat? That's nothing to do with what you said. You were talking about us not being smart in the transfer market or with our scouting.

Re: Palace turn down £15.5 million for manager
We lost out on Lionel Messi too. And Harry Kane - he had loan spells with Norwich, Orient, Leicester, and Millwall.
WTF are our scouts playing at ? There is a very very long list of players we have missed out. In fact I’d go as far as saying we lost out on every good player there has ever been in the world in the last 150 years….except the ones we did sign.
Absolute disgrace.

Because one person decided to use this thread about a topic unrelated to Burnley Football Club to criticise Burnley Football Club for some reason.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 11:19 amI don't know why people keep banging on about choice it was nothing to do with us or palace.

He was running the game at Ewood until Cork came on and did a job on him. He was no doubt their stand out player last season, and I would have loved to sign him last summer. However, he's from a big Rovers family so it would be like Jay signing for them... never gonna happen! It was clear he would head onto greater things and he's certainly taken his chance at Palace.

Yeah, I never ever ever understand any Burnley fan saying “we should have signed Wharton”. As if. Thats one player that was just completely off limits.jlup1980 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 12:36 pmHe was running the game at Ewood until Cork came on and did a job on him. The £60m price tag is an interesting one though. I know a lot of that is his age and potential but I wouldn’t say he’s looked leagues above Berge though this season and that’s playing in a better team. Clearly that number is being exaggerated and by a team in a better negotiating position but if he’s worth £60m, Berge is worth £30m+ in my view.
