Pointing work required - any recommendations please?

Post by ClaretGeorgina » Wed May 22, 2024 11:16 am

As per the thread title, my mother-in-law needs the front and back of her house pointing and wondered if anyone on the forum could recommend us a reliable tradesman.
Thanks in advance. Georgina.

Not sure if the Facebook link will work for you.

But it shows Drivers Building Roofing with a great pointing tool.
I don't know the company but that tool should speed the job up massively.

Georgina. Make sure you get several quotes and ask to see some of their work, not by just photos but ask for addresses. If you drive and can then get to one of the properties, there’s no harm knocking on the door and asking what the owners thought of the builders and their work. I still do it and believe it’s been beneficial. You don’t want to be paying all that money and be disappointed. This board though is usually good for recommendations so hopefully you’ll get a few more very soon. Good luck. P.S. Worth mentioning which area the property is in.

This is interesting, and kind of confirms my concerns, I recently had a quote from a local sand blasting company for £1400 to sandblast and repoint the front of my terrace property which is quite large compared to some in the area, which I thought was a little on the cheap side and as the saying goes you get what pay for , or buy cheap buy twice etc. I will have a look at some they have done and see what the result is like.

Sandblasting on average is £800 £900, the quote of £1400 is a good price and is probably about right because of the price of the pointing cost is mostly labour in knocking the old pointing out but Sandblasting removes all that old pointing saving time and labour costs

Other things to consider re quotes, is it brickwork or stone being pointed?. Stone courses vary considerably from 3 or 4 inch to 10 inch. Brickwork is 3 inch per course. I don't do centimetres.
