I don’t think he could get his head round it either to be honest. Just very ecccentric but someone who knows his football and brilliant with the media.

I think he got very lucky at Leicester in the sense that Pearson had laid the foundations with that incredible run they went on at the end of 2014/15 (at our expense), they brought in Kante (not a Ranieri choice) and Vardy suddenly became the best centre forward in Europe.

Seems a top fella, though, and obviously fostered a great team spirit throughout that season.

Incidentally he wasn't a tinkerman during that famous title win!

Soon reverted to type the following season when he went a bit mad, changed style and brought in a fair motley crue of new players and then got the sack.

When he was Chelsea manager he always did his interviews in Italian with an interpreter. He was asked a question one night on MOTD and responded with a really long answer in Italian before the interpreter responded by saying YES. They both laughed and the interviewer knew he’d been stitched up.

He was just very mischievous but a breath of fresh air. At least his press conferences and interviews were entertaining.

Not having a pop Fretters, or Tony for that matter but I found this post interesting.

What makes a manager lucky?

Did Pearson keeping Leicester up by the skin of their teeth give the foundations for a title win the following season?

Was it coincidence that Vardy became a better player working under him at what 28 years of age? ( I'm guessing how old he actually was)

Can you be lucky over the course of a whole season?

Was our Championship tilte season a fluke for Kompany or was he a genius?

Is Jose Mourinho a good or bad manager? He's had success and failure.

Had Alex Feguson left Utd half way through his tenour and managed Barcelona with half the success, would his legacy be tainted?

I'm not entirely sure of the point I'm making but with all the Kompany talk, from some people absolutely hating him to others who still love him and everything in between, I'm just trying to highlight that there's a lot of imponderables into what makes a manager successful.

Of course he was lucky but there was also good management in terms of simplicity. It'd have been easy to over complicate or try to make his mark on the team. He didn't do that, he just gave them a basic solid 442 shape and player to their strengths.
