Exactly. Or you'd just read it in the paper. I lived in Tokyo in the early '90s. During our promotion year, in a Roppongi bar on Sundays, I used to read the back page of the Exeter sports paper [faxed over by a mate's dad] to get the football scores. I used to wonder who the free-scoring Mike Conroy was.Bin Ont Turf wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 8:56 pmRemember a time before the internet when we'd be oblivious to all this?

Exactly, they were happy to pay £15m for Glasner who was going for free a few months beforehand. Bayern is a s**t show right now, they are in turmoil and will have to save face big time if they mess this one up, make them pay £15m minimum.mybloodisclaret wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 7:08 pmIf Pace wants 20 mill hold out for it. Numerous coaches have already said no to Bayern..... they are getting desperate, and have found someone who has said yes in Vinny.
Depending on Vinnys contract, get every penny we can back for him.

Depends which Burnley turn up to negotiate… for years we had this lot:
BFC- we want £20m
BM - we’ll offer £2m
BFC- we want £18m
BM- we’ll offer £2.5m
BFC- ok.
Squeeze what we can out of them. Can’t believe the “know it alls” aren’t banging on about the release clause they KNOW to be part of his contract…

How does that benefit us exactly? They take our manager, most of the back room staff and get first refusal at any talent we have? CrikeyFolkestoneclaret wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 9:44 pmCould part of a deal be to become a feeder club to Bayern?
Re: Kompany to Bayern Munich?
I suppose the good news is that if we get near the 20m we would pocket 125m for the season instead of 110m.
Not bad.
Sell a couple of keepers and the numbers rise considerably. Half a dozen wingers and we, sorry Mr Pace's lenders, will be quids in.

Mine heard on the radio that there was a fire at "the" Crewe match in 87 (there was a small fire behind the goals at the derelict end).
This was just a couple of years after the Bradford fire and she spent the whole night till the next morning wondering if we were still alive. No mobile phones then, the lazy techy barstewards,
Meanwhile we'd found a pub in Sandbach that didn't mind us blowing froth off a few until late, drowning our sorrows like.

And so what happens if he doesn’t get the job? I’ve read that they’re also interested in Thomas Frank. Does he just stay at Burnley and pretend that nothing has happened?

There'd be too much negativity around the place for him to still be here.
You'd hope that we have already got the wheels of his replacement in motion.

I just can’t see past OGS. Available, on the look out for the right club, has the warm and fuzzy loyal feeling about him, the media love him and as the ex United manager has a big enough profile for investors to know of him. He’s got the big club knowledge, proven that he can bring the feel good factor back, admittedly short term but also been successful with a smaller club with a smaller budget.
It feels like he would tick a lot of Alan’s boxes

Young coach who young players like playing for
Plays a similar style of football to VK = smooth transition
Helped take Hull from 18th to 7th
1 of the worst defences in the league to 1 of the best
Able to attract good young players (Carvalho chose them over Saints)
There are doubts whether this job comes a bit too early for him but I’d be surprised if we aren’t at least considering him given the above.

They want a European manager with lots of pull in the lower markets (IE Belgium/netherlands/Austria). I also think they will have learnt from Kompany and maybe go for someone with more top level management experience.
Rosenior, has no top level experience, no links to European markets and I personally don’t think he’s marketable.
Said it before but I think Alexander Blessin, Christian Ilzer are all much more likely candidates. They are well thought of in the type of markets we will be shopping, some European and top level management experience, low salary, both just had some excellent seasons.

Left his last club for failing to achieve what the investment suggested they should….. plays the right way eg doesn’t win enough games but is pretty…… I can see why you’d be a fan.

They had less investment than every single club they finished below (Ipswich aside), who all had parachute payments. Not a chance he’ll be here. Whilst both he and Pace could have been shell shocked by the approach his agent will have been putting his name about as being interested in other clubs. The trust Pace has put in him and their project has gone. We need to start the season with players, fans and a new manager being together.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 11:24 pmAnd so what happens if he doesn’t get the job?
