But is he going to get another Premier League job soon? In his 60s now.
Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
Shot in the dark, I voted Cooper but VK did state out of all the players he's worked with Ashley Barnes will be a great manager. He'd unite the fans, galvanise the squad and anyone who calls them what they are on the BBC after shoving their keeper into the nets is worth a shout. Also he's got his badges or working to finish them, knows the club and knows football.

I believe a serious mistake not having him in the dressing room this season but if he's going to be a manager he needs to get some experience in the role before I'd consider him.bfcjg wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 5:24 pmShot in the dark, I voted Cooper but VK did state out of all the players he's worked with Ashley Barnes will be a great manager. me - so he has no chance of being our manager but the man or woman who gets the job is probably not on that listRoosterbooster wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 1:41 pmAny chance the Lampard voters can identify themselves? Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
If you think about it, the best thing for his reputation is taking a championship team up playing more attacking football than he can in the Prem. It would prove he is more than a low block, defensive football merchant.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 5:21 pmBut is he going to get another Premier League job soon? In his 60s now.
However he would be on very big money and there isn't much evidence that he can put out a team that can consistently win games with a team that is expected to be dominant every week. I imagine it would cost a bomb to sack him as well which was the issue we had with VK.

Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
He's worked under our arguably best ever manager as well as our most one season successful championship one albeit an abject failure in the Premier league, if experience is Eddie Howe, Owen Coyle, Brian Laws etc I'd not be adverse to him being given the job.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 5:30 pmI believe a serious mistake not having him in the dressing room this season but if he's going to be a manager he needs to get some experience in the role before I'd consider him.

Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
I think there's a reasonable chance of him getting a bottom half Premier league job soonish, yes. If Maresca gets the Chelsea job, for example he'd be an obvious possibility for Leicester. And he's an obvious candidate should anyone start badly and make a change in the autumn.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 5:21 pmBut is he going to get another Premier League job soon? One name missing from that list, for me, is Carlos Corberan. WBA will presumably have to rationalise again, and Corberan has won promotion as an assistant from the Championship (Leeds) and taken two relatively unfancied teams to the play offs. Bielsa influenced football is not a bad successor to Kompany ball. If we can't attract Cooper (who may himself wait and see what Chelsea do) he is someone who, along with Carrick, I'd have high on my list of targets.
Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
I voted for Moyes. Imagine a jigsaw puzzle with at least 40 odd pieces (1 piece per player) which need fitting together to make a picture of our promotion back to the Prem (24/25 season).
There will also be a need to find some other jigsaw pieces from other places to make up the picture as some pieces will clearly not fit. This is the job which the future Burnley manager has on his hands. Sorting out the wheat from the chaff as they say and then filling in the gaps where needed. I can understand we are looking at managers who are progressive and who can buy into this project but let's take a step back. What's our identity for next season? How do we make Turf Moor a fortress again? How do we win ugly? Where will the partnerships be? Which players are worthy of forming our 'spine' I am hoping for Moyes as I think he could answer these questions. I'll take Cooper as a fall back or Carrick if we can attract him out of his contract. Let's have a fresh look at this squad, what's good and bad and work from there.

Me too either Moyes or Cooper. We cannot afford to take risks with this appointment.
Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
Like Leicester did with Maresca and Saints with Martin and us with Kompany?northeastclaret wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 6:11 pmMe too either Moyes or Cooper. We cannot afford to take risks with this appointment.
Farke was meant to the safe, guaranteed promotion this season for Leeds.
Just saying!
Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
There is obviously no guaranteed promotion with any manager. But it does feel like Moyes or Cooper would give us the best chance from those listed or, to put in another way, be lower risk.

Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
I don't think lampard is as bad as some people are making out. I voted for him. Football is often about timing, and I think Lampard has chosen the wrong job at the wrong time. He's a bright fella, I like that he's not gone off to Saudi like Gerrard to make a quick buck. He wants to learn. I think there's a good manager in there and we'd be his last chance really to prove that. I understand why folk would think I'm mad for believing he would achieve that, but I think he would. The squad dynamics suit him.

I think Martin shows the benefit of someone who understands and has recent experience of the Championship, which is why Cooper, Carrick, Corberan and Robins would feature high in my thinking. Moyes, of course, has been away from this league for more than 2 decades.

I’ve voted for knutsen because it’s different from the usual merry go round suspects but the more I think of cooper the more I’m warming to the idea of him. I’d be happy with either.

Cooper is my choice.
Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
Football was dire in the Prem. Upon reflection it probably wasn’t the easiest job having 35 new players thrown at him by the chairman & their brand of football in the Champ was more attractive (and happy to play younger players). Falls into the ‘solid’ category for sure. Moyes doesn’t.

He could become the next experienced man who comes in to try and save a team when they are in dire straights like Allardyce ended up doing.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 5:21 pmBut is he going to get another Premier League job soon? In his 60s now.
I don’t think he’d be attractive enough for Pace either .
I think he’s be fantastic in the background for a more youthful candidate or “progressive” manager/coach as they call it with less experience.
Not sure he’d be looking for a move like that though either
Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
Can't think of a more solid option from those polled than Moyes to be honest - in fact he would epitomise solidness.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 6:42 pmFootball was dire in the Prem. You seem a bit confused about what you want. On one hand you've posted about Cooper's dire football, stats to demonstrate he doesn't play a certain type of football including when he was managing in the championship, and suggested he doesn't play young players, yet on the other hand you've chosen him in this poll and said he ticks a lot of boxes.
Or you've at least confused me

I voted for Moyes.
Don't want flashy football this coming season.
Just sort the squad out, sort the wheat from the chaff.
Get us up, keep us up for a season them £5m bonus.
No one is going to poach him.

Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
Suggested he doesn’t play ‘possession football’ that someone else said which is true. Though a deeper dive into his Forest Champ team shows a pretty attractive style. We weren’t in the Champ then so I hadn’t seen them much. But ticks the box for promotion, ticks the box for being fine playing younger players, ticks the box for working with a big squad, ticks the box for some Prem exp if we did go back up.taio wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 6:55 pmCan't think of a more solid option from those polled than Moyes to be honest - in fact he would epitomise solidness.

Having said that I’d personally rather watch Knutsen’s football and continue with the style we’ve been playing. This squad is ready for that. Moyes’ football is the polar opposite to what we’ve built over the past 2 seasons, hasn’t been in the Champ for decades and his style didn’t translate well to a team expecting to win/dominate games. West Ham’s expected goals against were higher than ours last season, incredibly!

53% winning percentage with Man United - following on from an absolute club legend/30 year era and a ginormous rebuild needed.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 7:11 pmSuggested he doesn’t play ‘possession football’ that someone else said which is true. Moyes' Everton were entertaining as well. Think you're unfairly pigeonholing him.

One scary thing to consider. Big names come with big price tags and also demand decent transfer kitties. The cost cutting might not extend to some of the names mentioned on here.

Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
Moyes' experience trumps any one of those for things done in the game and man management. What he doesnt know about the Championship (and he will know a fair amount) he will pick up quickly. Some dross in your choices.claretspice wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 6:29 pmI think Martin shows the benefit of someone who understands and has recent experience of the Championship, which is why Cooper, Carrick, Corberan and Robins would feature high in my thinking. I think Moyes is a perfectly sensible contender. But I don't think he's a slam dunk, because this squad is set up for almost the polar opposite of the counter punching tactical approach Moyes has honed.

Voted for name not mentioned, as I heard a name earlier on the Turfcast podcast which intrigued me Van Nistelroy. I suspect it will be either Cooper or Knutsen though, Moyes is probably the best candidate on purely management credentials, but I am concerned if he would drop down and also would we need to have another rebuild to match his playing style?

To be fair a front 3 of Koleosho Foster and JBL/Benson would be a very good counter attacking set upclaretspice wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 7:33 pmWho is the dross?

Like I said t'other day, it's going to be a "name" unless they have a complete change of direction.
Lampard or Solksjaer fit the bill in that list.

I'm just hoping that we don't end up bewildered and disappointed. My fear is that we might end up with someone none of us would have chosen. This is why I mentioned finances in a previous post. Still, though, the speculation is enjoyable.

Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
Sorry but that's not true is it. Its sort of true for Carrick, but he's judged by Boro fans as having done a good job. It's not true of Cooper, Corberan or Robins (all of whom have reached a play off final with an unfancied team). Even Carrick reached the play off semis despite taking over a team that had had a poor start - Boro maintained automatic promotion form 2 years ago after he took over. Cooper and Corberan have reached multiple play off competitions. Robins has come within an ace of taking Coventry to an FA cup final, and of course brought Coventry from the middle of league 1 to promotion as champions to Championship promotion contenders against the backdrop of financial instability.
There's lots of scope for everyone to have their own perspective on preferred candidates - and none of the above are magic bullets - but let's keep it factual.

My first thought when VK was pursuing employment elsewhere was Steve Cooper. He ticks most of the boxes and I think he'd be a steady hand. My one concern is whether he fits the profile of our current regime, but I sincerely hope not.

Re: ARTICLE: Who is your choice to become the next Burnley manager?
I want a manager who is going to stay in his lane. A big club will never approach Steve Cooper because his name is Steve Cooper. He's managed unfashionable clubs and isn't a pretty face.
So, for Alan, it's like moving on from the most beautiful girl in town to the girl next door.
Steve Cooper has the potential to take Burnley into Europe in 4 years. Most of the other names on the list won't be at the club long enough before they are tempted away by Aston Villa, Everton, Spurs or West Ham if we're seeing success on the pitch.
But I've said before on another thread that investors are more likely to buy into clubs with famous managers… that's why Fat Franks name will always be around.
