McKenna staying at Ipswich

Post by ervi34 » Mon May 27, 2024 4:10 pm

Ornstein: Kieran McKenna expected to sign new long-term contract with Ipswich Town. 38yo Northern Irishman considered by Chelsea, Man Utd & Brighton but set to end speculation by committing future to ITFC after securing promotion to Premier League

I'm happy for them, but surprised at the same time.

At Chelsea he’ll be waiting to get fired, just like the rest of them

At Ipswich, even if they get relegated he’ll be held in high regard for the job he’s done

If he keeps Ipswich up then his stock will rise even further.

It's a good decision, both for Ipswich and him.

It will be interesting to find out if he will succeed where Kompany failed by keeping Ipswich in the top flight past next season. You can be certain that he won’t ditch the Championship team and start with a completely new set of players.
Having bought them up from League One I am glad that he is staying on.

If he does that they'll be relegated by February

He’ll be Bayern Munich manager next year after getting Ipswich relegated.

Exactly. He must have the self confidence that he can succeed further at Ipswich. It does of course not mean he is without ambition.

This is why I don't get the 'VK must accept the Munich offer' thinking. Surely if he had stuck with us and sorted everything out his stock would be much higher. As it is if he messes up at Bayern surely he's finished as manger. Well he should be anyway!

Maybe all the stories, that perhaps we would have not heard had he stayed, have some truth and the wheels were coming off our 'project'.

Nah - better getting relegated trying to play the idealists way.... that's how you get the big bucks.... ask the last 2 Burnley managers....

He will inevitably bring in some new additions, every team promoted from the Championship does, but he won’t make the same mistake as Kompany and throw the baby out with the bath water.

Kudos to Ipswich for keeping hold of him after all the talk this past week or two.

Tough decision for a young manager to make. Stay on with players/upper management he knows or probably set himself up financially with a big club and possibly doomed for failure. Staying on showed guts and self belief, good for him. :)

No more like Edwards is still held in high regards because he didn't completely revamp his squad unnecessarily

Brighton was the job for him - that's if they actually wanted him.
No chance he keeps Ipswich up.

Kompany isn’t in talks with Bayern Munich because they asked for the Burnley fans opinions first

Shades of Kompany last summer signing a 5yr deal on the back of interest from Chelsea and Spurs.

Let’s hope it goes better for Ipswich than it did for us!

Surely all this means is that Ipswich will be entitled to a good chunk of compensation if a "big" club come in for him?
As another poster has pointed out - Kompany signed a long contract. That worked out pretty well for us.

Of course, VK was willing to sign the deal, surely knowing that the club would get a big cheque if he left. I am disappointed he is leaving, but the way it is now VK is bad here, there and everywhere seems an over reaction to me.

Not by the Ipswich fans he won’t, he’ll be told he’s useless and needs to go after 10 games if their fans are anything like ours.

Not even a remotely similar comparison and you know that
