Nixon reporting we are interviewing Lampard today and just seen Pace at St Pancras so can only assume that the Lampard interview has legs.

Think this thread needs the name changing to next coach after J Rod’s contract?

Iv seen some over reaction in my time but this Lampard reaction is right up there. Is he my choice no he’s not (Said I’d want Corberan from day one) but anyone would think we were getting someone like Steve Evans with the reaction. Play off final in his first season with a very young Derby team, granted they lost but that can happen to anyone in a one off game. Transfer embargo in place at Chelsea so had to blood youngsters, most of which are either still there or left for sizeable transfer fees, and yet gets a top 4 finish, many bigger and supposedly better managers wouldn’t have done that, poch has just failed after forking out £1 billion. Finally Everton where every man and his dog fails because it’s an absolute basket case of a club. Looking at all that and the fact that he comes across as a decent intelligent bloke I’m really not seeing the terrible joke of a manager most are. If he gets the job I say good luck to him.

According to the BBC website yesterday at least Frank Lampard has expressed an interest in becoming Burnley manager as opposed to Cooper who dismissed it out of hand.

Don’t think it will.
The only thing bigger than guys like Lampard, Parker and many others egos are their bank balances.
Most of the managers being linked with us have had failure aswell as success so doubt many are that bothered about ruining their managerial reputation or record. But they do harbour ambitions of restoring their reputation and getting a promotion on their CV.
And if they fail and get sacked they end up with even more millions in compensation it’s still likely another club will give them a chance and their egos mean they are confident they will still succeed at some point.
If Lampard gets the job, are you going to change your username to Big Franky L?

Again he wouldn’t be my choice but he’s nowhere near as bad as some are making out. A lot of it is because of the spy gate stuff and “stop crying Frank Lampard” with Leeds, must have some level of managerial knowledge if he beat the Messiah Bielsa over 2 legs when he supposedly knew everything about every Derby player and his teams tactics.

That’s because SD is a top class manager. It’s a shame he often doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
I think Lampard is a decent bloke and I’d love him to prove the doubters wrong. Just not sure he will.

Fair one but he is a top of the range manager in my opinion…. And the 3 that went down absolute stunk the league out (maybe a tad harsh on Luton)

Even if it is manager that is an unpopular appointment, the fan base has to get behind him. We don’t want another Laws situation which became toxic.

As far as I can see I would rather have someone who wants to be here (and Lampard seems to want the job) as opposed to someone who doesn’t such as Cooper. Maybe Cooper thinks he’s better than he actually is and that ge’s too good for Burnley ? Perhaps Frank Lampard is keen to prove he has got what it takes and that he is capable of learning from past mistakes.

The Lampard/Terry combo might be on. Or it could be the Lampard/Bellamy combo(although I think they nearly had a feyt in tunnel) but since Craig praised Lamps efforts as a manager. I think Lampard's assistant has been Ashley Cole in the past, maybe he could develop Vitinho into a world cup winning left back. The Pacemaker will get the right man for the job.

Terry wants to be a number one not an assistant.

Frank 11/8 now on Bet Victor. Parker 4/1.

I would really struggle to be excited about next season if useless Fat Frank gets the job. Utterly hopeless manager, with a track record of massive under achievement. I don't believe that Pace would be THAT stupid to appoint FF.

Seriously, it can't be true, surely??

I'd rather just have no one and let the players pick the team themselves.

If it’s Lampard then I’ll get behind him. Let’s be honest, it would take some doing to equal the poor decisions made by VK last season. It would also take some doing to match VK’s championship season though.

The list of managers being linked with the job makes incredibly grim reading.

Most of them would be a disaster, Parker, Lampard, Rosenior, etc. all proven failures, sacked from every job they've had.

We need to aim a lot higher than these perennial losers.

Written earlier that I think Lampard is shite. Competence over big name, playing career and connections please. Whatever way you dress it up, he flopped at Derby and Everton fans were largely happy to see the back of him - spent a lot of time on their forum due to SD's move.

There are some interesting candidates out there and I think we are a decent proposition. I agree with those above on Parker. Not particularly fond of Parker but if it is Lampard versus Parker then it is Parker all day long. He has promotions at least.

Our esteemed chairman potted Sean Dyche, 'cos he clearly didn't believe Sean would keep us up.

Time moves on.

Everton were having a dreadful season with Frank Lampard as Manager, and even their incompetent board knew they had to make a change. So they appoint Sean Dyche and he keeps them up. The following season, without spending £100m or anyway near, Sean Dyche improves Everton, wins 48 points and keeps them up with ease (in fairness it must be said, the 3 teams that were relegated were poor).

So our esteemed chairman decides to interview the guy that was replaced by the manager he sacked; and what has Frank Lampard done and learnt since he left Everton? Not a rhetorical question, I just don't know, but surely it would need to be a pretty incredible answer to allay any misgivings I might have. Still he was a very good player.

I can only hope that Alan Pace has learnt something, and hopefully, a lot about football in the last 2 years, and puts that learning into practice.

Hopefully the club conduct a thorough search and appoint the man THEY feel is best for the job based on their conversations and interviews with the candidates and those in the game who have worked with them.

Only an incompetent board would appoint a manager based on what the fans of the club think and only a shitty fanbase wouldn’t give the selected manager a chance.

Would any manager come across badly in that type of interview. It's set up for them to look good.

It doesn't tell us anything about how he would handle pressure as a manager after a few defeats, players complaining to him about not playing and fans getting on his back. After seeing him at Everton I'd take a guess athim not handling it very well.

This is not true. At the ground, Vinny received very little stick. You can count the booing at half times and full times whistles on two hands. If anything the big worry was the amount of apathy on display. Online there were questions being asked but for the majority of the season and for the majority of fans there was an acceptance that it was a project. Most accepted relegation and for Vinny to have an opportunity to take us back up.

You obviously aren’t anywhere near me then. I accept a lot stuck by him, and my post ain’t aimed at those. It’s more for those minority who unfortunately shout the loudest and ruin it for everyone else.

I agree completely with this.
I never witnessed any negativity from the stands towards VK. People were just disappointed, but they still believed that we would come straight back up under him.
If useless Frank gets the job, the atmosphere will be very different. I certainly wouldn't have any patience with him, a few bad results and the majority would be giving him grief, me included.
These appointments NEVER work out. Managers hired against the majority of fans' opinions will always fail. Always.

and what has Frank Lampard done and learnt since he left Everton? Not a rhetorical question, I just don't know, but surely it would need to be a pretty incredible answer to allay any misgivings I might have. Still he was a very good player.

I can only hope that Alan Pace has learnt something, and hopefully, a lot about football in the last 2 years, and puts that learning into practice.
This is it for me. Lampard has been out of work for over a year at this point and I would be pretty certain he has not spent that time bettering himself as a manager (as if he had we would have media puff pieces put out by his agent, going into detail of which clubs and managers he's been working with and observing).

Instead he's most likely been enjoying the compensation payout from Everton, doing the odd bit of media work and waiting around in the assumption that his name will get him a decent job at a club stupid enough to only care about that without him having to put the effort in that much better coaches and managers without that cache do.

I pray we're not that club.

People were unenthusiastic when Dyche took over. Probably the same people.
