Supporters, pundits and ex players had a full year of it and couldn't make head nor tail of our unbalanced weak squad, only people who understood it were the opposition coaches and oh boy did they make us pay.
Re: Next manager
Genuinely intrigued as to the boards decision making process right now and who might be advising them, from an actual 'Footballing' perspective1 if they went for VK because of name and links to Man City and possibly now looking at Lampard due to his name this feels wrong, surely the investors should be more focussed on results, leading to £££ than having a 'name' and no results, no lessons learned?
We don't want to be another stop off point in a 'names' profile building, or am I being too hopeful that there is someone out there who will relish the challenge of getting us back and then staying with us to keep us up and consolidate our position for at least a couple of seasons.

His high IQ, first-rate GCSE results and Latin degree, don't make him better qualified than others to be our manager, nor would he be my first choice.
I was simply replying to the poster who stated that Lampard was "thick".
He's a very clever and articulate bloke.

Don’t see how it is anything other than a positive that he is a clever guy. Some say similar to Rooney as an ex elite, but they are chalk and cheese. Lampard had a middle class upbringing in Essex and had a decent schooling. Doesn’t qualify him for our job, but helps, and on his track record I’d say he has done far better than Rooney.
I think he could do OK. My doubts are his long term commitment, but as one poster said, if he gets us up first, who cares?

He comes across as thick ( regardless of the Latin) and I don’t think he’s particularly articulate. I don’t really know why this has anything to do with whether he’s a suitable candidate for managing a football team. I’m sure VK was one of the most intelligent managers in the PL but he delivered a car crash of a season.
Re: Next manager
So far on here I've seen him described as fat, thick and a serial failure.

Re: Next manager
Dyche had a great run, but as he said himself, the players eventually tired of his methods, and there were increasing whispers of training ground confrontations, and questioning his choice of backroom team at times.....
It was time for a change, and it was acknowledged at the time that this might mean becoming a yo-yo team while the evolution took place.

It has v little to do with his suitability for the job, but it was you that brought it up:
"Surprised people think Lampard is ‘intelligent’ and ‘a clever guy’. I think he is thick.",
and despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, you've just doubled down on that view.
For what it's worth, I don't think that being a very bright guy makes him an outstanding candidate, but I don't see it as being a negative either.

If I remember rightly, the Board (including Mike Garlic and John Banaskiewicz) were impressed with Dyche's presentations. There judgement was fully justified.Becx wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 10:13 amGenuinely intrigued as to the boards decision making process right now and who might be advising them, from an actual 'Footballing' perspective1 if they went for VK because of name and links to Man City and possibly now looking at Lampard due to his name this feels wrong, surely the investors should be more focussed on results, leading to £££ than having a 'name' and no results, no lessons learned?

Did MG or JB have any influence on the appointment of VK or was it down to only Pace and his advisors? You would think he would at least listen to advice from former Board members.

Gods' Bones, give the incoming a fair chance.
No one on this message-board has any say in the decision making of the BFC board of directors, and all the speculation and conjecture is purely that.
An articulate discussion is one thing, but bickering and name calling is uncalled for.

Its fair vital that the next manager that comes through the door isnt going to be a divisive figure,we all need to be on the same page and pointing in the same direction, unfortunately if its Lampard, its not gonna go down well and things could go sour very quickly.
Re: Next manager
If it’s Lampard, so be it. There’ll be some grumbling but the fans will give him a proper chance once preseason begins and he starts to refashion the squad.
He’d be far from my first choice but I actually think he’d do a decent job, should he be appointed.

The source is Graeme Bailey so I wouldn’t read anything into it, the other day he wrote an article that McKenna was ready to sign for Brighton, an hour later he signed a new deal at Ipswich.
I think Lampard would do a sound job with this team albeit not one to be super excited about. That could easily change as we get into pre season though as ksr says.

Tbf even if its Lampard I think most will get behind the team ... we are Burnley Fans and its the team that matters ... if he succeeds then he will win us over, and thats the way ... success.

As we are hardly an appealing proposition, if Lampard wants to come here to get his career back on track, I think we could do a lot worse. He will need a bit of time and patience to sort out the omnishambles left by Kompany however

Disagree with that. Young players, Championship experience, ambitious owner, great facilities.

If he succeeds, yes. But, if it’s not a popular appointment, then the first sign of trouble it could get toxic quite quickly. We’ve seen it before.

I’m not convinced that this is as done as some people would think. I’ve no doubt that Lampard is in the running but I think he’s probably 1 of at least 2 if not more.
Let’s see how this plays out. My money is still on the hardly mentioned OGS

Lampard wouldn't be anywhere near my shortlist.. but as it seems more likely, I've just gone back to watch his Overlap episode.
Have to say, if he gets the interview, he'll get the job. As above, he's a very clever, articulate guy. Just a mediocre manager.

Re: Next manager
Excellent, top class midfielder of this century. I can't think of any candidate so far that would be universally acceptable to the supporters. Therein lies a major problem/ issue. If he is our next manager and I stress if, how much patience are people going to afford him? Would it be exactly the same for any of the candidates? Genuine questions especially as VK didn't exactly get off to a 'flier' despite the opening fixture victory.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 2:25 pmI think he would do a decent job.

Dyche didn't exactly get off to a flier either and it didn't go down well with the fans and he never let us forget that.

I’ve seen a post on FB regarding Bellamy and Jacko getting the interim roles and there’s around 100 comments with pretty much all of them suggesting that we should give them a crack at the permanent position. For me that’s the least favourable scenario but goes to show that whatever they decide, fans opinion will be divided

We don't need an individual who is/has a rocket scientist, an MBA, an MA in Latin, member of Mensa or whatever.
We need an individual that knows football and more importantly, knows how to foster a harmonious & cohesive team to get the best out of individuals them.
The rest is just hot air.

Rewatched Lampard's Overlap episode. It's two years old but it's filmed at a similar point in Lampard's career to where he is now. Speaks really well. Seems a sound, level-headed bloke with a point to prove. Talks about how gutted he was to lose the play off final with Derby.

Re: Next manager
In overlap he said he loves to coach young players, likes that a club would give a manager time, would like a club that would fit in with his family lifestyle, his wife someone said spends a lot of time in Manchester.
In the comments some Everton fans said that Lampard had a great rapport with the fans, better than Dyche and a couple of comments said the players at Everton had let Lampard down.

Re: Next manager
Pinch of salt with this one, for me, at this early stage in the process.
To offer so quickly, either they’ve been really on the ball and seen a number of candidates, of which Lampard was deemed to be the best option. Or alternatively, they’ve been blown away by the first candidate, his profile and his pitch.
The former seems unlikely and I hope that the latter isn’t correct.

Re: Next manager
He says all the right things, like the Redknapps he's good with the media. But when the going gets tough he's really struggled as a manager. After 4 stints does anyone know what his playing style is because I've not really seen any common theme apart from being crap defensively.HahaYeah wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 4:59 pmIn overlap he said he loves to coach young players, likes that a club would give a manager time, would like a club that would fit in with his family lifestyle, his wife someone said spends a lot of time in Manchester.
