I hope we insist on a "must start 75% of games" clause.

Signed for '£19m' and Club looking for £20m, doesn't sound at all right, for such a wanted keeper!

Not a chance we spent £19m on him .
Chelsea
Liverpool
Newcastle
Bayern Munich
All linked , albeit no clue as to how reliable, but looks more and more like he’s going to be one of our big sales this summer which doesn’t bother me as I’d like Muric to be our keeper this season.
Who will be the others to generate decent sums?
Odobert probably, maybe Amdouni and Esteve .

Amdouni?
If he didn’t play for us, but you’d watched him this season, how much would you be happy for us to pay for him?

Clearly highly rated before his arrival. The entire team was underperforming last season. If he can show some ability in the euros then why not?
If one season doesn’t make the manager “VK” then the same applies for the players . Amdouni certainly has a lot of ability .

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
No doubt Amdouni has ability, but he looks like he has a discarded tampon where his heart should be beating and I'm not sure there's any amount of training that fixes that. You've either got the dog in you or you don't.
If Ashley Barnes is willing to swap him his then he'd be the next one getting made up links to Chelsea and Bayern

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I can see Trafford, Berge , Odobert & Esteve all leaving for decent money this summer.
Could see interest in Amdouni as with Weghorst, some players are more suited to German ,Turkish Football so maybe interest from teams in those country's.

Best hope City get in quick a trigger the 42m buy back or whatever it was. No sell on fee then either
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I suspect we have/will pay close to the 19m for Trafford.
You'd assume any add ons would relate to game time, possible England call-ups, and the one which may not have been triggered may be staying up. But if it was 14-15m plus add ons it's likely some of those have been triggered.
You'd also assume City may have a percentage for profit on any deal- admittedly it will be minimal.
I still wouldn't see it as bad business if we get our money back but again if true it's showing we've not got the model right. In this scenario we may get bitten twice- played Trafford at cost to our season to develop him and got relegated. And as a result sold Trafford cheap so his development hasn't even benefitted us.

I suspect any performance instalment was triggered by the 75% rumours, which he didn’t.
I think we have got the model wrong whichever way you look at it because if you get relegated you lose more than you’ll ever profit on players. Plus you profit less. Thats not to say with some refinement it won’t work.
But on Trafford I think the club will hold out for a decent profit precisely because they won’t be able to stomach the whole pain for no gain thing. I think they’ll expect and most likely get a return if the rumours of all the interested clubs are true.

I’m not as convinced as others that Kompany were the only voice behind all our signings. I think the club will’ve developed a recruitment model that they’re quite happy with (despite relegation) and probably a plan for this summer that they expect to enact regardless of manager.

So I would find it strange right now if any incomings or outgoing would happen with no manager in place.
Unless they have decided to give Bellamy temporary control (which again would seem very unlikely)

Amdouni is a Swiss international and a very good player. Our issue was playing him without a target man to win the high balls knocking them down
I think he shows skills similar to Vydra who also got a dogs abuse from certain sections of the crowd.

The fact that we went down to 10 men multiple times, benched Amdouni and ended up playing better without him speaks volumes.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 2:26 pmAmdouni is a Swiss international and a very good player. Our issue was playing him without a target man to win the high balls knocking them down

Of course he's talented but he's not a PL player. He can't force his way into a game.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
He played with Rodriguez, Foster and probably Fofana as well as playing a false 9 role and from the left.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 2:26 pmAmdouni is a Swiss international and a very good player. Our issue was playing him without a target man to win the high balls knocking them down

He was crap in all of them.
Ps when did Vydra get dogs abuse. He was a big fan favourite from what I remember

Amdouni is a very good technical footballer, but mentality wise and physically he’s just knowhere near good enough for the premier league. Similar to Weghorst, anyone can see he has bags of ability but lacked the physical attributes and the mentality to be a success

Here’s my thoughts on it:gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 1:02 pmThat would make more sense, but I’m still uncomfortable with players being signed without the input of the manager .
I’ve always very much been of the view that the manager should pick all of the players and make all of the recruitment decisions. That’d be my natural position.
But that approach does have a couple of problems, which we’ve experienced recently.
1. The players the manager wants might not fit the financial model of the club (e.g. Dyche wanting experienced pro’s who ask for high wages and won’t accept salary reductions on relegation).
2. Your manager stays a few years and then leaves the moment a better offer comes in, leaving a squad bought by him. I think we’re far more likely to now have a higher turnover of managers than we are someone who stays 9 years, anyway. We’re not a club that can replace squads constantly.
It therefore sort of makes sense to a club like ours to adopt a model where we have a recruitment system/philosophy, call it what you will, that is explained to any incoming managers and they have to work around. Thats not to say they shouldn’t have a big input to it, or they can’t say “get me x player” every now and again but the broader recruitment approach is less dependent on one individual. Over time then the club get recognised for that rather than the manager.

Despite the relegation, I think ALK will be very happy with how we’ve recruited since Kompany joined. I think they’ll accept it failed at Premier League level and needed refining but overall I think they’ll have been pleased and will continue with it going forward.
I think a lot of work will have been done to identify targets for this window, particularly at LB where we’ve been trying to be active for two windows. So I don’t think they’ll just rip the plans up and ask a new manager who he wants to sign. I think they’ll carry on with it. Whether players are willing to commit absent a manager is a different question.
I just don’t see Alan saying “which LB would you like Frank*? Wayne Bridge, okay we’ll go and get him”. I think all recruitment will be grounded in data and analytics than it has been in the past, so unless Lamps* has been crunching the stats while unemployed, I doubt he’ll get very far with a wish list.

Andy Jones has said VK had the keys to club and was the most influential person there. Add in the fact that the scouting system was VKs company and it all points to the fact that VK was in total control of transfers

Andy Jones has said VK had the keys to club and was the most influential person there. Add in the fact that the scouting system was VKs company and it all points to the fact that VK was in total control of transfers
- VK himself said that transfer strategy was set by the club.
- Matt Williams also said that he had to tell VK no on a number of transfers.
- Williams also said that the recruitment team were in looking at left backs the day after the transfer window closed (if VK just decided who to sign there would be no point).
-Pace has spoken in the past about the transfer committee set up to manage recruitment (accept that was pre Kompany).
I’m not saying he wasn’t highly influential in it all, of course he was, I just think it’s just totally wrong that he decided who he wanted and asked the club to go and get them. There will be a process used to identify the players and I don’t expect that will change.
Depending on how close we are to getting a new manager will depend on whether we just plough on or wait for his input to whatever plan we had for this year, but assuming we’re still a way away from that yet, I don’t expect we’ll just put the summer on hold.
Will be interesting to see whether we continue to work with MUD going forward. It being VK’s company doesn’t mean it’ll be used exclusively by him. I think we will, although maybe with some adjustments and refinement of criteria.

He coolly scored a late penalty for us at Old Trafford in front of the biggest crowd of our season.
So it can't be him wilting under pressure you are getting at.

I mentioned him a few weeks ago, as one of the stand out centre halves in the Championship, and still young. Whilst we are blessed with CH's we could easily part with a number with no negative impact. Delcroix, and Al Dakhill could be sold off. Esteve is attracting interest from the PL, and there are question marks about Beyer wanting to go, plus he is very injury prone. Starting the new season with O Shea and Greaves would give us the start of a very strong spineTsarBomba wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 3:47 pmhttps://x.com/secondtierpod/status/1798 ... Gkg4Pp-4vg

Don’t expect we’ll be getting rid of AAD, he is rated very highly I’m told. Delcroix you might expect to get moved on with Kompany leaving although he did have a few solid games in the prem.warksclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 3:54 pmI mentioned him a few weeks ago, as one of the stand out centre halves in the Championship, and still young. On this Greaves chap I can’t say I watched a lot of him at Hull but did watch a video last week when he was mentioned and he does okay. His transfermarkt profile lists his other position as LB and on the 9 minute video I watched he seemed to be at left back a lot.
He looks very cumbersome running with the ball though. Like a big CB running at you, basically. And in defence he is very John Smiths ad, no nonsense, hoof it stuff. Doubt that’d have gone down so well Kompany.
Overall I can’t see much in it unless Esteve is leaving and would look a big downgrade at first glance. Do feel his height and presence at LB is what we should be looking for though.

Would be the perfect signing to replace JBG who we should have keptSwizzlestick wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 8:06 pmStuart Armstrong released by Southampton. 32 now but a bit of experience in CM? Always thought he was a decent player too. Lot of Saints fans surprised he didn’t get a deal.

Suspect he'll have better offers (e.g. Celtic) but yes, he'd be a good fit to add the sort of experience and drive we need in midfield - would be a natural replacement for Berge should he depart. Only issue, he's injury prone.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 8:06 pmStuart Armstrong released by Southampton. 32 now but a bit of experience in CM? Always thought he was a decent player too. He’s played plenty of games over his time at Southampton.
45 last season.
