Re: TST
For those of us who have played football at any level, a game of 11 a side on a full size pitch is completely different to 5 a side.
We just didn't seem to know how to play this format or have enough players capable of playing it.
John Durnin looked a world beater at the soccer sixes tournaments, it was a game his was suited to.

Emmanuel Ledesma played in England for a few years. Most notably for Middlesbrough.
Usually with these charity teams it's more down to who is in the best shape than who's the best talent.

I think the commentators said at the start that we’d already confirmed for next year?Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 2:41 pmaye, next year I suspect we will take a much stronger team, Wrexham have Dave Jones and George Boyd so I'll deffo watch them play
Does anyone know the rules on who you can and can’t take? I assume academy players are not allowed?
Not that winning really matters but if the idea is to build interest in the club and brand abroad, getting thrashed isn’t the best look either!

yeah I've no idea but I suspect it will be restrictive. I think we massively underestimated the quality required or completely under prepared, be reet.NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 2:44 pmI think the commentators said at the start that we’d already confirmed for next year?

edit: I think the commentator said the Tournament has been confirmed for May (not sure if he was or wasn't referencing us)

Yep, didn’t look at the races at all. Maybe an underestimation of the ability we’d need to take or maybe just not trained together enough.

I'm watching this Bayern game, you can't compare the standard to the game we just played in - there are obviously going to be some good teams

I thought this would give some carthatic release to see a team in Claret and Blue win something...
Yeah they have acres of space, quick one touch passing and always have a free man - we're one paced, no passing lanes, no movement off the ball... Turgid!123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 11:57 pmYou can tell which teams are used to playing the 7 a side format and which really aren’t

We defend so deep, don’t mark and don’t close anyone down. It’s like we’ve just started to play the game or something

If we weren't involved in it then we would be like pretty much every other club in this country that was in it, unaware it was even taking place.
It's not actually proper football with out first team playing in it. Look at who is playing in it and accept it's a bit of fun

Re: TST
This TST tournament has yet again put Burnley FC and JJ WATT on the American Sports map.
There are thousands of Americans who had never heard of Burnley FC 24 hours ago.
Any publicity is good publicity.

I wouldn’t say that.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 7:37 amAll this playing in America is embarrassing for the club, what a PR backfire
JJ’s social media and the TST channels have been awash with BFC content and will be for several days when otherwise it’d be quite a quiet time. They’ll definitely have brought Burnley to more eyes over in the states and anything JJ is involved with will bring positive media coverage for us. From a brand building perspective it’ll have achieved its goals.
I did think we’d be looking to field a more competitive team though and probably not the best way to entice people to watch a Burnley match… come watch us, we pass it around the back slowly a lot and had zero goal threat

Be interesting to see if they bother entering next year and if they do if they take it more seriously.

It might be embarrassing if we'd gone all out to win it. I suggest that by playing JJ Watt we didn't take it too seriously and neither should the fans.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 7:37 amAll this playing in America is embarrassing for the club, what a PR backfire
