It's not like we're going to let our England International keeper go to Newcastle for next to nothing, is it?
Doesn't matter how much he is actually worth.
If Pace can sell him and make a quick profit he will be gone.

I agree.

My comment was an ironic one referencing the Pope deal.

Hung out to dry last season. So unfair on him.
I can’t argue with this Tony. I think if the lad gets the right coaching and mentoring he will become a top level keeper.

I know he’d played a lot more games than Pope had when we signed him but he needed supporting, not exposing. Quite why he wasn’t taken out of the firing line much earlier is difficult to fathom.

The alternative was Muric, if you google 'liability' Muric's big face appears below the Google logo.

I think how VK managed Trafford last season was typical of his 'I know best' attitude. This and many other examples, for me, is how he lost the plot last season.

They thought Karius was a good keeper too for a while.

If Howe has any hands left by the time the weekends over I will be disappointed.

Bet Alan can’t believe his luck this close season, just need a decent manager to put the funds raised back into the right areas.

The lad is basically a foetus goalkeeping wise, and was pathetically managed last season.

According to the experts on here, Trafford was contracted to play a certain number of games.

Surely that didn't turn out to be a lie? 🤔

If Trafford goes to Newcastle he will improve but If he goes to Chelsea he will end up the same as the last season with us, they will have him playing out from the back and he can’t do it

According to Alan Nixon we want £30 million for him with Chelsea & Newcastle wanting him.

He also says Twine will be sold and is wanted by Birmingham.

According to Alan Nixon Partick Thistle is the best club in the world.

It wouldn't shock me at all if indeed the was a clause stating he had to play a particular number of games. We will never know. In my mind there's no other reason why Kompany would pick him to start knowing full well he was out of his depth. No question he has enormous potential. but needs to be brought along, not thrown in to the deep end.

Loan deals can often stipulate the player makes a minimum amount of appearances, especially from clubs like Chelsea etc

I’ve never heard of it in a transfer deal though and quite frankly it would be bizarre, because if the player performed like Kalvin Phillips or Drinkwater, why would you want to tie your hands like that?

If Trafford becomes our number 1 again next season and has another bad season, he will be worth £5m this time next year. Cash in now, he's not good enough.

Bit harsh this. Poster’s aren’t clueless, just commenting on what they saw. Vincent Kompany was the problem last season keeping the lad in the firing line. Not many posters have said he is rubbish, just that he wasn’t ready.
With the right coaching and management this lad could make it to the top. This is why these clubs are looking at him. They will develop him not ruin him, as Kompany nearly did.

Just seen a montage on X of his saves and passing out from the back posted from a Newcastle fan account. Trafford looked decent. Newcastle fans are positive about signing him, why has there been so much negativity about Trafford on this board?

Add that to the VK compensation, we should be half way there in needed player sales.

All these top European clubs that are after him are clueless. All they need to do is ask the professional scouts on here about him and that could save them a lot of money.

We're not clueless, we're going off what we witnessed with our own eye's and that was a very young keeper with only league one experience being thrown in at the very deep end and left to drown by a stubborn manager, we all know he'll be a top keeper one day but not today, we don't have the time to develop him unlike a top team and we won't be surprised when one of these big clubs pays top money for a young English keeper

Nope.

Trafford wasn't ready for the Premier League, bullied at corners not commanding his area etc.

Look at Verbruggen (our original choice) who we wanted hasn't played all the games this season, he wasn't picked from the off and then rotated.

As far as Muric is concerned he deserved to start the season as others did, but they didn't and we had no promotion bounce as a result

Trafford will be a great keeper in the premier league, just not yet.

It’s not rocket science with Trafford.

A crap team with a crap defence left a young keeper completely exposed.

He will excel somewhere like Newcastle. Let’s hope we get 20m plus

I don’t personally think he’ll go for £30m unless we get a proper Chelsea/Newcastle/Bayern bidding war which is pretty unlikely, but to answer your question…

It would just underline that those who said that we would make a big loss on him if we wanted to sell really don’t understand what they’re talking about. There was a lot of nonsense written about him on this board last season.

Because some people on here insisted we'd take a huge loss on him. Some nasty things said about the kid on here last season. And of course the fee represents how much other clubs value him.

Again, most people only comment on what they can see with their own eyes.
We are mere mortals not footballing experts. If Eddie Howe is looking at him with a view to signing him, he is doing so because he and his back room team are football professionals and have decided that the lad has got ability and should fit into their future plans.
I think the general consensus on this board from most posters is that Kompany did him no favours at all by keeping him in the firing line when it was clear he was struggling.
If he does get a move to Newcastle I will be pleased for the lad. Furthermore, I believe they will coach and nurture the lad properly as opposed to just plunging him in at the deep end like Kompany did, almost drowning him in the process.

At Newcastle he would get to play with defenders like Botman, Burn and Schar, all good headers of the ball, a bit different to having Al Daktil, Delcriox and Beyer in front of him. I would imagine Howe sets his teams up to defend corners whereas Kompany didn’t.

We were actually very good at defending corners across the season. Can’t really understand the criticism of that. Especially since there’s so much valid criticism to offer up

At Newcastle he wouldn't be in the team. It's very possible he'd be a really good signing for a team who can afford to wait years for him to be ready to play in the Premier League. We were not that team.

He would probably be in the team within a couple of seasons.

Goals conceded from set pieces, 16, only Sheffield Luton and Forest conceded more.

Out of interest, how many of those were corners, does it break them down. Because I don’t remember us conceding very many directly from a corner at all.
