And still no-one knows.
Reminds me of dear old Donald Rumsfeld.
"Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know."

Everyone saying chill Bellamy was appointed interim for a reason. You have to wonder what mindset Bellamy has to coach a team through tough pre season when he knows the owners are looking for other options as manager

Sometimes there isn't much to be gained from trying to second guess something unknowable.

Absolutely no chance that we would have failed to win against Sheffield United if they didn't have a player sent off.
We were 2-0 up, just abouts to go into half time before that sending off.
There was no chance of Sheffield United coming back into that game.

Re: Next manager
There’s a scene in the film Moneyball where Jonah Hill’s character is agonising over having to tell a player he’s been traded, but the reality is players know they’re in an industry that is transitory. They move around, managers change, it’s the nature of the game and the differences in football are only superficial.
Fans get a little hung up on this and maybe don’t appreciate that the players know the score. Sure, there’ll be nuances around tactics etc, though I doubt we’re heading for any seismic shift, but I also doubt the players are sat home biting their nails wondering what the future holds and you’re right, they’re professionals and they probably get it.

Re: Next manager
Worth noting that Baseball/American sports in general are extremely different and have a lot more trades, due to not having transfer fees and the fact that players can be traded for draft picks - which is where the teams sign the best young talent from every season... Those sports are a heck of a lot more mercenary.RicardoMontalban wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 12:09 pmThere’s a scene in the film Moneyball where Jonah Hill’s character is agonising over having to tell a player he’s been traded, but the reality is players know they’re in an industry that is transitory. The only players that tend to stay on a team for a long time tend to be the highest paid/star players.

Re: Next manager
Of course, there are differences in the way the sports operate when it comes to player trading, but there’s the fundamental similarity that players do move around, often at the behest of the clubs, and managers do change. Players get that transitory nature of the business.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 12:28 pmWorth noting that Baseball/American sports in general are extremely different and have a lot more trades, due to not having transfer fees and the fact that players can be traded for draft picks - which is where the teams sign the best young talent from every season... The mechanics of how it happens in football may be different to American sports, but from a player point of view, it’s not that different.

Burnley now double the price of Leeds to win the Championship at around 7/1 - 8/1, largely due I suspect to the uncertainty surrounding the appointment of a new manager.

Remember 14/15 season two consecutive games at home 2-0 up lost 2-3 to Palace and drew 2-2 WBA?

Ruud is 48 now and has already spent 5 years as a coach at PSV and just one season as manager. I guess it will say a lot of his managerial ambitions if he was to choose coach at United over us? Even Kieran McKenna went from being a United coach to League One Ipswich. Having said all that perhaps this story has been put out by his agents to give us a nudge, who knows.

Re: Next manager
After me mentioning Flynny earlier I’ve just seen what Dobbo has been up to and found this which I hadn’t seen before.
https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/s ... ball-club/
What might have been if Dobson had been treated better by Burnley I’m thinking.

Its quite bizarre.
I am falling to understand why Pace would need to inform Bellamy of a rumour.
Pace - " Hey Bellars, have you seen that rumour on twitter about Man United wanting RVN as part of their set up.
Bellamy -" I told you not to trust that Charlatan. Where do you want me to sign "

To me the only logical reason to fly out to see Bellamy would be to give him news in person that they have decided to go in a certain direction and understand if he wants to leave but if he wants to stay there’s a coaching role for himRaconteur wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 2:16 pmThis forum gets better and better.

2/1 before that news, kentonclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 2:23 pmWith that news you would have expected the price on RVN being appointed Burnley boss to have drifted but instead it has shortened. Now 2/1 with Sky Bet.
So many conflicting stories and we never know how far behind the curve articles are. Mirror saying RVN waiting for us to decide and has a database of players who will fit our budget
But then Romano saying RVN will decide next week.
I understand the thinking of going to United and if ten Haag has a collapse he could well see himself in caretaker charge but surely if they sack ten Haag they would also sack the staff he brought in to and start fresh

Re: Next manager
When the books were opened on the Championship, Leeds were put in as a general 4/1 with Burnley 7/1 and 8/1 in places. I have a feeling that those will remain roughly the same unless there is a flurry of unusual transfer activity, ins and outs, until after the first round of games.

Re: Next manager
It wasn’t direct from the club but ‘quoted’ by Nixon/athletic/farbrizio or similar right back around start of June (not long after jj video message).
Rang pretty ‘true’ at the time and I’ve kept it in mind throughout and appears to be the timescale that’s playing out if reports that rvn has been interviewed twice now are accurate.
Second interviews being conducted would suggest we’re close to offering / have offered the role to someone.
I had a Quick Look back for a link but it’s lost in a minefield of posts and speculation from the last month.
