O/T Help Military Search Sites

Post by ecc » Mon Jun 24, 2024 7:53 pm

Hello fellow Clarets,

An unusual request.

My sister is over from England and brought some old family photos. As her and I are the only ones left from our family - our parents are dead and we have no other older relatives - two photos see brought that belonged to our Dad are puzzling as to exactly who the two men were. They were both on my father's side of the family and thus had my surname.

Both of them are photos taken in uniform and we know the full names.

Are there websites where you can try to trace former servicemen (WWI and WWII)? I imagine there are but thought I'd ask on here first. They would have been Lancasire regiments.

Many thanks in advance for any help provided.

Try this, remembered it from a recent visit to the IW Museum.

Ancestry is good foe military records.
If you don't fancy paying the £20 per month, you can get a two week free trial which should be enough time for you to find what you need

Suggest you search Past Soldiers of Pendle on F/Book.
Jay, the guy who runs it is extremely knowledgeable and should be able to assist. He has an amazing collection of local WW1 & WW2 memorabilia.

I would recommend contacting the Ministry of Defence Medals Office.
