this ref is superb, not having the Portuguese cheating and not having Ronaldo acting like a petulant child

Not sure why Martinez was belting out the Portuguese national anthem

Mikatuadze is the lad we wanted. Been keeping an eye on him this tournament and he is very impressive
Re: Euro 2024
That number 7 fluffed that one, would have been interesting had he scored.

Shame he saved it really, would’ve been hilarious if they’d scored the equaliser and the game got pulled back for the penalty.

I really like Portugal, I really do, but I'll be honest with you, Georgia deserved the win tonight, they really did, by a country mile.

Re: Euro 2024
Bizarre rules. Desperately sad for Hungary who thought they had qualified 4 days ago yet tonight they have not.
Much said about England’s draw but while Slovakia should be easy, Italy them the Netherlands (maybe) will not be.

Re: Euro 2024
What a fantastic performance by the Georgia a fine example to all youngsters about giving it everything from start to finish, all credit to them.
Re: Euro 2024
Never understood the head to head result being more important than goal difference as it meant some teams automatically qualified regardless of the final game.
Re: Euro 2024
Absolutely not. And as for the pundits. Gary monotone Neville, Alan boring Shearer saved by the brilliant Wild Colonial Boy.Hbclaret007 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2024 9:24 pmIs Ali McCoist the worst pundit? I'll be honest with you, but what a load of nonsense, he really is![]()
Re: Euro 2024
Georgia have three excellent players (Kvara, Mamardashvili (the keeper) and Mikautadze.
Their other players are far from average and they play like men possessed. For many, this is their one chance of playing a major international tournament.
But Willy Sagnol has done more than get them to Germany; he's got them playing some excellent football. They were desperately unlucky against Turkey but tonight they showed that performance wasn't a one-off.

IF we beat Slovakia who could we play next?
Is it Switzerland or Italy?

Re: Euro 2024
Wouldn't mind our new manager recruiting half the Georgian team. They were excellent.
Re: Euro 2024
Southgate needs to go after this tournament(I'd sack him now) but anything other than reaching the final now with this team and the route he's been handed would be a massive failure

I had a premonition this morning that Wout Weghorst is going to score the goal that eliminates England
Re: Euro 2024
Not against Slovakia no, we should be putting in a performance and making a statement.
We've had three poor performances a 1-0 win over Slovakia just covers over the cracks for a few days

I genuinely think our lot will be on the plane home on Monday after the Slovaks park the bus and nick one against us.willsclarets wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 8:10 amYup. And if we get through that a probable semi final against Austria or Netherlands. I mean you can't ask for better including our group.

Re: Euro 2024
“The underdogs did not require dominance and made their chances count as Georges Mikautadze delivered from the spot when they were handed a second-half penalty to further propel Georgia to their shock success.
Georgia were content with letting Portugal control possession - as they were steely in defence and closing down space to limit Portugal's chances - and waited for the opportunity to threaten on the counter.
Few opportunities came Georgia's way, but few of any real danger were handed to Portugal; the underdogs held their shape to perfection and caused the Group F winners to become increasingly frustrated.
The above is an extract from the match report and I think some’s my feelings I.e.
Less playing the ball back and forth across our own penalty area and more “playing football in there half”.

Feels unnecessary that Phil Foden is flying back this week.
Why not just wait until Monday and fly back with the rest of them

Only Germany and Spain that I really fancy getting through based on current form and they’ll then play each other. Very open now.

Re: Euro 2024
Georgia 9/1 to beat Spain and 200/250/1 to win the competition….got me thinking after last nights fantastic performance
I remember Denmark won the competition some years ago as rank outsiders and a substitute entry.
