Team v Switzerland
Will Southgate change his attitude and select the players to win the game rather than not to lose it?
For example:
Pickford
Trippier Walker Stones Shaw (if fit)
Bellingham Rice
Palmer Foden Gordon
Kane

I could be wrong, but I think Bellingham, Trippier and Guehi are suspended?

Like most (if not everyone) who posts on here, I'm no renowned tactician, but whatever our set up against the Swiss, Palmer MUST be accommodated.
It was plain to anyone watching last night that when he came on, there was an almost instant re-energizing of our play and the team.
Get him playing, G.

Re: Team v Switzerland
Not entirely sure it’s the players themselves…I’m convinced it’s the puzzling formations and instructions that they are being sent out with.

Re: Team v Switzerland
Fairly poor at the back aren't we now. Scratching around but we've nobody anywhere near the likes of Terry, Ferdinand or Cole. And they didn't win anything either. Probably as weak as we've been for a while in defence.

Re: Team v Switzerland
With Guehi being banned, I can't see him making an unforced change on top of the 1 he has too.
I would be quite happy to see Walker, Trippier, Saka and 1 of Foden or Bellingham start on the bench but he will persists with trying to make an arse of a starting 11

Pickford
Walker Stones Konsa
Palmer Wharton Rice Gordon
Foden Bellingham
Kane
I’m well aware this team would struggle out of possession….but just give it a go! As long as Wharton and Rice have the discipline to sit it could work against the lesser nations (I know Switzerland are no mugs).

Re: Team v Switzerland
How could Shaw possibly start a Euro QF without having played any matches for four months?
Re: Team v Switzerland
My Team
TAA - Stones - Konsa - Gomez
Wharton - Rice
Palmer - Toney - Watkins - Gordon
If I could drop the whole team I would. I would also Ivory Coast the manager.
However, Southgate will play the same 11 in the same positions (Bar Guehi) and expect different results.

--------Pickford

-Palmer--Kane--Gordon
I'd be happy to give Wharton and Mainoo a go together as Rice has been poor and I think he's much better as an '8'.
If we go for a front 3 I don't think we need a '10', due to Kane's ability/preference to drop deep and link the play, I'd prefer to have two really hardworking box to box '8's with a single defensive midfielder.
A natural left footer absolutely has to play left back and provide width/overlapping option. Gordon is great at stretching play and getting in behind but is still predominantly right footed. Cannot have two right footed players on the left again, we looked so much better as soon as Saka went to left back last night.
Walker is another that's been unusually poor and if he's not providing his usual defensive brilliance, then going with TAA makes sense - as his ability to unlock a defence from fullback is the best in the world.

Re: Team v Switzerland
Definitely think a back 3 is the best option now. Wouldn't mind this lineup at all, i'd possibly give Foden one more chance instead of Eze though.jedi_master wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 10:42 am------------------------------Pickford

Can't see how you could bench Bellingham after his goal yesterday plus the one against Serbia.

Re: Team v Switzerland
I'd sack Gareth, appoint a temporary manager( one who displays at least an ounce of passion and barks instructions) and bring in a whole new back room team. There'd be such a vast improvement in the style of football played, irrespective of the players picked ( assuming round pegs in round holes) - even if we get beat.

Pickford
Walker Stones Gomez Shaw/Tripps
Bellingham Rice
Palmer Foden Gordon
Kane
We all know that the only change will be forced at Centre Back.
I think Guehi is a massive loss.

Re: Team v Switzerland
I don't think the starting 11 matters on Saturday. The mentality of the team is off. I couldn't quite work it out in the group games, but it became clear yesterday that the players just aren't listening to Gareth anymore. I thought the whole game was reminiscent of the end of the Dyche era; basically a bunch of players fed up of hearing the same old sh*t, from the same old manager.
The only way we turn it around now is if one or two of the players take control and push up up the pitch. I'd expect the likes of Stones, Rice and Kane to be demanding we push up the 10 yards or so. We're making ourselves ineffective, rather than the opposition pressing us hard, and that needs to change.

As B4 with the exception of the enforced change, and expecting a different outcome !!!

Re: Team v Switzerland
Out of interest why would you start Shaw who won't be match fit? Players who aren't match fit rarely start games for that reason. They need to get their match fitness back which comes from sub appearances. Asking him to start the game is bonkers.
For my team:
Pickford
Trippier Walker Stones X
Rice
Foden Bellingham
Palmer Kane Gordon
I've since changed my mind over Saka.
