We will probably have to be very patient.
We can't afford to be. But I don't see any similarities at all anyway. Parker has taken 2 teams up to the Premier League and for me that is massive.

I actually think fans will quickly take to him.

Pretty good interview here that gives a bit more insight into him as a person and manager

Have my doubts and am underwhelmed but hopefully he can prove the doubters wrong

I wonder if we’ll use Spider-Man or Thunderbirds for the announcement video.

Just use a biro. Much cheaper.

Not my ideal replacement for Kompany but it could be a lot lot worse than this.

Why?

That's just stupid. Like we should have no opinion on anything?? Parker is a disastrous choice, why should we support him?
Should we support Weghorst too?
Yes. You never boo your own players.
I don't want Parker but I'll get behind him at first if it's him. Everyone should, and needs to.

Interesting regarding project and Kompany.

I did a lot of reading when he became our manager and read forums and feedback from Anderlecht fans. One thing I kept reading was that they said Kompany's "The project" was full of **** and he talked ********. At the time, I didn't agree and thought we'd get automatic promotion, so I wasn't surprised at all when we finished top.

But thinking back, would we now agree that his talk of "The Project" was crap? I think we would.

A bit mental because he did so well in the Championship, but I do question Kompany as someone who would ever be loyal to a team. I think Pace wants somebody loyal. I think he wants someone who will be successful and stay at the club for 10-15 years. If Parker is coming out with the same stuff, then I hope hes not the of the same ilk.

Not having players as good as Tella and Maatsen, having a worse defence, not knowing whether Benson and Zaroury will ever be what they were.
Having a worse defence? The new manager could select Roberts Beyer and Ekdal , only one a new LB needed?

Have we not moved on from Benson and Zaroury? Can probably filed under not good enough.

Benson won us more points than any other player in the last Championship season and didn't get remotely enough time to deem not good enough in the Prem.
Zaroury started red hot then went hot and cold but is of a decent age and well worth another crack of the whip in the Championship.

Can't possibly understand deeming them not good enough when they were plenty good enough last time, but presumably if we've "moved on" rating as good enough some new arrivals who, in a Burnley shirt, have yet to offer much of anything.

Which surely is a positive and maybe one of the reasons they favoured him given their goals and the squad.

And to be fair he did improve a lot of the young players at both Fulham and Bournmouth in the championship either giving them their introductions to the team or getting them to kick on a level

Wouldn't be my choice and my opinion of him as a person isn't/wasn't particularly high but that interview has brought me round a little

The game moves on quickly. He's out of touch. Went to Belgium and failed there. A starter for 10.

Looking at this reaction, he really needs to beat the horse botherers or he is ******. I would have been like this with Lampard.

Parker over Lampard/Bellamy/Rosenior/Pardew/Bruce all day long. I agree with the theory that our first pick has turned us down. It all feels very second choice and does not fit with the big name, big pull aspiration projected on to the board by many. Would have liked them to prolong the search further.

He's 43 and plays progressive football, not like he's an old dinosaur who hasn't been playing for years and been on the managerial merry go round

Was a captain at some big clubs, got 2 promotions - still a young manager. Not my choice but willing to give him a chance

He took over Brugges mid season at the end of December 2022 replacing a manager who got sacked - in charge for 12 games and did poorly, but could have been all kinds of circumstances at play

Like who? Out of who's available?
It's easy saying "get someone better", but in practice it's not that simple.

How do you work out that “he’s out of touch “? As per Brazilian’s reply? His Championship record is better than all the other runners. If he is appointed, perhaps we should cut him some slack and see how it goes?

Can someone check who Parker’s back room staff where at the clubs he’s been at and see how many of them are currently in roles, might give us an idea of any coaches coming with him
At Bournemouth:

Matt Wells - Assistant - Currently at Spurs
Rob Burch - GK coach - Also at Spurs
Alastair Harris - Head of Performance - Bournemouth
Charlie Moore - Lead Physical Performance Coach (fitness coach in my day!) - Bournemouth
Jonathan Hill - Analyst - looks to be unemployed

Wells, Burch and Hill also followed him to Bruges but can’t see Wells and Burch leaving Spurs to link up again.

Personally I'd rather have Lady Penelope than Parker, but I'll back him if he gets appointed. Give him as much chance as anyone, but he's certainly the name on the list of potential managers I wanted the least.

Making some adaptations to try and stay in the league with the players he had and be more pragmatic - something we were crying out for last season. It didn't work but they got more points than us and put in some good performances (including a win at Anfield)

His style of play in the championship for Fulham and Bournemouth was very similar to ours under kompany

It basically means possession-based play. I've no problem with that at all. With the squad we have, it's the best way of playing.

Pressing high and possession orientated

Austria pressing high but more looking for the turnovers and suited to counter attacking

But the main point was you calling him 'out of touch, the game moves on quickly' for a 43 year old manager who has had 2 recent promotions

I wish people would stop commenting on Parker’s dress code. He’s intitled to wear what he likes. As long as he stabilised the team win games and gets us promoted.
This. It seems to be the only thing people have against him bar his interview style. Yet people were happy to appoint Steve Cooper who looks like he’s been smoking joints for ten solid weeks, because of his record.

Things move quickly in our hunt for a manager. I was sitting reading this afternoon that we were ‘definitely’ signing Denmarks manager, which I thought was brilliant, it was all over the internet and looked odds on. Then I get a message off my son in law saying it looks like Parker. I’m just not believing anything now till the club actually makes an announcement.
For what it’s worth if it is Parker I’ll be happy. Loads of moaners on here slagging him off before he’s got the job but who do they think we should have got? Maybe we should have asked Klopp if he fancies a go. Maybe Pep fancies a fresh challenge? We’re Burnley FFS not Real Madrid. Parker has a great Championship record (and that’s where we are playing next season) so if it is him get behind him and let’s have fun again. And who mentioned him being defensive? Even if he is, and I don’t think he was at this level, what the hell do you think we got served up by Dyche, who has Godlike status to many.
I’m really looking forward to next season. Love the Championship. No VAR. No City. No entitled fans looking down at us cos we aren’t owned by Arabs. And a couple of games against the lad down the road. Brilliant.

The Denmark manager is crazily old news. Yesterday's news. In fact I think it was even Sunday's news. But I agree with your thoughts about moving on. It's all part of the fun.

Progressive football ???? just read a quote from an analysis of his career and it says , ‘ Fulham fans were desperately unhappy after having watched a season of tediously slow and over safe football ‘ . If last season and Southgate haven’t been bad enough sounds like more sh!te to come.
Presumably Fulham fans were complaining about performances in the PL not in the Championship.
They weren’t complaining about the over safe Football when Fulham shut out Brentford’s front 3 of Mbuemo, Watkins and Benrahma in the Wembley play off final. At least he seems to know how to set up a defence.

Some people enjoy being miserable.

Certainly wasn't one of my top picks but I'll obviously get behind him.

Must say I did like him as a player but it just doesn't feel like a 'Burnley manager' - not that VK did either mind but that was an exciting appointment at the time....

See what happens. Big job on his plate.

Pretty good interview here that gives a bit more insight into him as a person and manager

https://youtu.be/OtB9LAIoK7Y?si=YBr_vjQSAZWFoi9t

Have my doubts and am underwhelmed but hopefully he can prove the doubters wrong
Thanks for that. I’ve just watched it and to be honest just cannot believe we’ve gone for him. He could not be more different than Kompany. He comes across quite aloof and guarded really and just nowhere near as articulate.

Although think I’ve found Pace’s cheat sheet for getting a Burnley managers job - mention process, habits and standards a lot.

I have to say it like I see it. Hopefully I’ll warm to him, but I’m concerned about how he’ll fit with us as a gritty northern club when he’s only managed London/Southern teams. He’ll get my fullest backing while he gives his all for the club though.

You're concerned because he's taking charge of a club in the north after managing teams in the south.

Kompany wasn't even in the same country before taking charge!

Stop being concerned!

I've no idea where you got the view he came across guarded. He came across open and sincere to me.

Why this big focus on his personality? It’s his ability to talk to his players that matters not his ability to talk to the press.

Also worth mentioning on his Premier league record - for Fulham he probably would have kept them up had Mitrovic been in form. That season he had a lot of injuries and poor form not scoring for 6 months with only 3 goals in 27 v 14 in 24 the season they came back up - both seasons he'd been the championship top scorer with 26 under Parker's promotion season

They got 28 points that season finishing above west brom and sheff utd and 11 points behind us in 17th and defensively conceded 55 to our 53. They drew too many games (13) - were unlucky in many of the games I watched and if Mitrovic had been in form / fit as he was in both promotion season as well as the subsequent seasons in both the Championship Premier League they'd have probably stayed up

It certainly wasn't a shocking season by any means and they were unlucky with other injuries. At Bournemouth he didn't have much of a chance after beating villa before first game losses to City, Arsenal and the famous 9nil v Liverpool before his sacking as a consequence of those 3 defeats coupled with the comments about the transfer policy and not getting enough signings in.

Fact is, where we are at anybody is going to have pros and cons - there is no perfect manager out there or they'd be in work or holding out for a bigger job. Anyone is going to be up and coming with potential, have a mixed bag of success and failure or someone like Robins/Corberan who have done well but can they step it up with more resources - then there's the question of if people have managed in the league before and whether they can adapt if not.

Ruud was the one I was most excited about from the links but he has had one season as a manager - in the Dutch league, had a falling out and resigned for not being backed enough (similar to what got parker sacked!). He also inherited a very talented squad with the likes of Gakpo, Xavi Simons, Madueke, Bakayoko, Branthwaite on loan etc - there would have been doubts there and risk just as there was with Kompany

Time will tell but there's going to be positives and negatives to anyone, Parker is someone with 2 promotions in the league and a similar style of play - I'm not his biggest fan but we could certainly do worse!
