Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
I thought he had a decent game when he came on second half.
For a man of his height though, he has a unique ability to duck out of headed chances.

He jogged about a bit. Didn’t jump to any height. Just don’t think he puts in enough grit and drive. Not for me I’m afraid.

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
I noticed that he ran off to celebrate in front of the fans on his own, whilst every other player and the subs gathered as a group in the half they were defending ... What's he realistically worth with 12 months left on his contract ?

God we have some adult children in our fanbase.
Wout is a quality player and a hard worker as Dyche even attested to. Obviously want England to win but I have to admit I'd like him to nab a consolation goal and would love him to stay for us in the championship, even if I don't see it happening

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
Just like when he came on and scored against the the eventual World Cup winners in 2022, Wout continues to defy the easy take or explanation. We’ll be in the Championship next season and there are still Burnley fans who think a bloke who’s likely to play in the semi final of the Euros isn’t for them.
He may well be a poor fit for us and sees himself playing in a top flight somewhere, but there’s more than enough evidence now that he’s a decent player and is more than capable of making an impact for most sides outside of the elite of Europe.

No chance he will be willing to play in the Championship. Need to get him shipped out asap and move on from it.

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
His ego outweighs his ability but there’s still a half decent player in there. He’s clearly not Premier League quality and he won’t want to play in the Championship so either another loan or a €5m fee would be nice.

Totally changed the game . Excellent off the ball. Caused the Turkish backline all kinds of trouble.

Weghorst is a fantastic impact substitute in international tournaments. He would have improved last season’s team , no doubt about that. Some on here take great pleasure in disliking players for one reason or another and then cannot move on from that.

Not sure it's fair to call him a knob. Definitely ranks very highly in our worst ever signings though.

Why not? Amdouni did, albeit in the penalty shootout.

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
Yeah so apologies for this very childish thread. I had had a couple of very quick and very large ciders after being out all day.
He will probably score against us.
He did change the game
He is a decent player when played to his strengths.
I think he could do a job for us but won’t.
It’s just his attitude and general demeanour that makes him a knob.

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
I'm glad for him if he doesn't come back. Some absolute dribble written about someone we should have embraced.
I can understand the frustration due to his time at Burnley, but that was partly SD not using him correctly. His decision to seek higher football in a WC year, was again sad for Burnley, but it should be understandable to anyone with a football brain.
To call him crap because of personal feelings, doesn't explain how he continues to be selected for Holland, by one of the games top managers.
If I had to choose between the opinions of Koeman, or bitter disgruntled Clarets, I'm sticking with Koeman.

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
Is he/ was he good enough for Burnley, possibly. Not all his fault I’m sure but to me from what I’ve read he just had the wrong attitude. Dyche probably wanted more from him, regrettably Weghorst didn’t respond. Was he a Dyche signing or a Board room signing might have something to do with it. He’s certainly got something about him for a big lad, but did we play to his strengths, I’m not sure we did. It’s just one of those signings that didn’t work. We all need to move on, let’s hope someone buys him and the funds are made available to Parker.

His stock has gone up....maybe get back nearly what we paid for him even with just a year left.
Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
With regard to Wout, there is an agenda. I used to try and defend the bloke but repeatedly got shot down by the keyboard experts on here.spt_claret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 10:40 pmGod we have some adult children in our fanbase.

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
He doesn’t really feel like a Burnley player to me. We only had a few months of him and for most of that, he and the team were bobbins. He’s obviously a good player and I wouldn’t mind having him back for a season. Not going to happen though.

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
He looks a different player for Netherlands than I ever saw in the PL.
Decent player, just not up to PL standard. Not the first and won’t be the last.

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
Highly unlikely he'll stay but from what I've seen and read about Parker's style he'd be ideal as a hold up link man.
Jay could also fill that role well but age is against him to be a regular.

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
He is way off the 'finished article" as far as a striker is concerned
But he remains an international footballer and will, no doubt, get some game time in the semi final against England
Who's right - Koeman or some of the Dingles on here

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
I’d almost forgot he was still ours. I’d love him to stay. Despite what all the bitter children on here say he is a real quality player. His stats (with everyone bar us) speak for themselves and his performances for Holland are at times exceptional. I still think his failure with us was that he didn’t fit into Dyches style of play. He really could do a job for us if he came back with the right attitude.
Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
Weghorst would have a field day in the Championship but he wouldn't play in it so it's a moot point.

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
I highly doubt he'll be here but would be quite glad if he was. He does more than just 'put himself about'. He was intelligent in yesterday's game with his positioning, linking play and helped build momentum for them to push on and win. We could do with some of that this season.

If Wout wanted to he could set the Championship slight but he is an arrogant player who chooses when to put a shift in.It was interesting watching him playing for Manure as several times players blanked him and passed elsewhere .

Amdouni had a good try last night, didn't do his price any harm, looked like he had bulked a bit as well.

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
That’s the issue. He signed a three and a half year deal and for the last two years we’ve had to loan him out. It’s an issue with him and a number of other players we have and looking at the numbers, a lot of them are going to have to go. We can’t keep loaning out players until their contracts end.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 11:05 amWe paid £12 million for 20 appearances and 2 goals and have been unable to sell him.

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
We got screwed out of millions for a player who did not want to play for us. Maybe got part of the fee back in loans and wages paid by other clubs
Now is the time to sell him for whatever we can get and move on. The club must be hoping he starts against England and does well

Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
There is a parallel universe where Wout signed, Dyche got his act together that January and we stayed up. Wout then became a crowd favourite for the next couple of seasons and bought into the club.

Can't blame him wanting to play gor Holland and to do so he needed regular first team football in a top league, it was how he left that he could have handled better.

Ego outweighs ability. He looks better when the football is at a slower pace such as Bundesliga and internationals. Not good enough for the PL but not a bad footballer. Need to get some money back for him.
Re: Wout is such a knob isn’t he?
I understand that, he wasn’t used properly by Dyche whodaveisaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 11:05 amWe paid £12 million for 20 appearances and 2 goals and have been unable to sell him.
Wanted a lump to launch it towards. After that season he’s wanted away.
You don’t score in World Cup semi finals if you have. Nothing about you.
Did we not receive some decent money for his loan spells? Especially at Utd I believe.
I mean the likes of Jutkiewisz is far worse a signing than Weghorst.
Too many people on here have agendas.

We signed him for loads of money on a 3.5 year contract with what was basically an agreement he wouldn't play for us beyond the first 6 months. And then we couldn't sell him because nobody was buying. it was a shockingly bad signing.

Although extremely unlikely, I wouldn't be disappointed to see him in a Burnley shirt this coming season. He'd be a handful in the Championship.
