Re: England v West Indies Test Match
Another one sided match sadly!
Re: England v West Indies Test Match
If the West Indies had held their catches there could easily be 8 down by now. Brook and Stokes batting superbly then absolutely throw their wickets away. Frustrating. Pope batted well and I like the look of this lad Smith. Currently 344 for 6.

Re: England v West Indies Test Match
Another one of those odd English innings. Probably scored enough to set up a win, given the Windies' batting in the first test but possibility of being bowled out in a day.
Re: England v West Indies Test Match
England cannot be this profligate against the stronger sides. Brook, Stokes and Smith have tossed their wickets away against bowlers who, in my opinion, would struggle for wickets in the Lancs League.

They talk about preparing for Australia in this series. They need to start scoring 100s and putting 500 on the board.
They all find a way to get out.

416 all out
Re: England v West Indies Test Match
I am, yes. Because 3 batters have thrown their wickets away which I find incredibly frustrating. 416 in a day is not to be sniffed at. But we should be looking at 500 plus sometime tomorrow.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 6:31 pmPut into bat, and score over 400 in a day….. and people still having a pop.

Re: England v West Indies Test Match
Like I said…. It’s like the twelfth man. They’ve scored 416 in a day…. 500 plus isn’t needed, there’s time in the game and a boat load of pressure on the West Indies…..
Do you think Windies will score more than 416 in reply?

Re: England v West Indies Test Match
Not sure what you're alluding to with reference to the 12th man. No, I don't think the West Indies will get near to 416. But if you're happy with people throwing their wickets away when well set, so be it. And if the West Indies had taken their catches we would be looking at a score they could achieve. My overall point is we will need to be better against the likes of India and Australia.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 6:58 pmLike I said…. It’s like the twelfth man. Agreed, you'll never get 11 perfect scores and batters will make mistakes in literally every game that's ever been played, you only need 3-4 decent scoresdandeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 6:58 pmLike I said…. Then again Southgate got us to a few finals and still took loads of stick, its become the normal reaction. Look for fault

The counter argument will be that we're not playing Australia yet we've called time on Anderson's career to plan for the Ashes but don't seem as bothered about treating the batting approach in the same way.Mondsley wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 7:08 pmNot sure what you're alluding to with reference to the 12th man. I'm not looking for fault, I want us to value our wickets more. We can discuss over a pint at Littleborough on Sunday!!Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 7:12 pm

No reason why WI shouldn't post 416 plus on this wicket, although their lower order is weak and inexperienced.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 6:58 pmLike I said…. It’s like the twelfth man. I didn't get onto this thread yesterday, but as others posted, getting bowled out by a mediocre attack on day one is a disappointing effort. Accumulating runs sensibly at a steady rate and declaring sometime mid-afternoon today (at 550+) should surely have been the plan?
There's being positive with the bat, but as has been repeated on here many times, there has to be a balance. I doubt that Australia or India would have dropped all those catches, nor would either side give so many of their own wickets away.

Did you see Australia in the resent World Cup? They caught less than Lee Grant.
Always the best of them, India, Australia never drop catches, never give wickets away….. always the worst of England, giving wickets away, don’t dominate, can’t catch….. tiresome.
As for no reason Windies shouldn’t score 416…. Get yourself over to Bet365 they’re 10/11 over or under 410.5 runs. You’ve just found huge value.

Has anyone said that England can't catch?. They were fantastic in the 1st test and apart from the uncharacteristic drop by Root have fielded well today.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 5:07 pmDid you see Australia in the resent World Cup? They caught less than Lee Grant.

Re: the 416. Even if we bowl them out before stumps today, our lead won't be anywhere near as many as we might have expected or hoped when we went out to bat yesterday. because 416 is well short of the 500 mark that should be the minimum expectation on a good track batting first.

Don’t often get asked to bat first on a good track? Hasn’t history shown that days 2 and 3 are always best for batting at Trent Bridge?nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 5:18 pmHas anyone said that England can't catch?. Re: England v West Indies Test Match
Yes, days 2 and 3 usually the best conditions for batting at Trent Bridge but we wasted a good opportunity to bat on day 2 by throwing loads of wickets away in the 2nd two sessions of day one.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 5:20 pmDon’t often get asked to bat first on a good track? It's usually session one of day one where you can get a lot of damage with the ball at TB, and so after the loss of Crawley we did well.
I would imagine that WI inserted England because they thought there might be something in the pitch early on and that they were worried of being rolled over for another low total. Coming out to bat on a sunny day two is a different scenario for them.
Re: England v West Indies Test Match
It has!! And that is why we should have put a higher price on our wickets yesterday. Seems like we may both have underestimated the WI batters.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 5:20 pmDon’t often get asked to bat first on a good track? Poor yesterday the way we lost wickets. Should have had a much bigger score and should have still been batting today.

I was watching us lose some wickets needlessly. We should not have been getting bowled out in a day on that track against this WI bowling.pushpinpussy wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 6:12 pmPoor. What game were you watching. We scored over 400 runs in a day. That doesn't happen that often.

Enjoying watching this and find myself willing the Windies on. So many memories of great West Indian cricketers growing up and I took no pleasure in their capitulation at Lords.

Re: England v West Indies Test Match
I posted on a thread recently that the first WI team I saw had the likes of Hunte, Kanhai, Butcher, Sobers, Hall, Griffith & Gibbs. And then came the most amazing number of top cricketers over the next two decades.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 12:44 pmEnjoying watching this and find myself willing the Windies on. what a waste of an appeal, surely a batsman knows if he has got an inside edge or not.
