Elon Musk has had some interesting things to say on X.
What were they then? Considering his profile picture on Twitter is him in a Satanic outfit, he’s a self confessed ketamine addict and he has children with multiple women. Another selective ‘Christian’.

Since when did the Industrial Revolution (part of the 2012 opening ceremony in London) have anything to do with sport?
Quite a bit:

the formation of ‘works’/ factory teams who would play football on their half days off - Sheffield ‘Wednesday’ as an example

Improved transport links to enable teams to travel around the country to play fixtures

Improved and formation of new schools, which improved education and literacy skills which in turn enabled rules to be formulated, codified and recorded

Have a look at this old A Level PE textbook for further info:

The Opening Ceremony was incredibly French, which is kind of the point. I enjoyed it

Just noticed this on TV - they have some massive grandstands for the fans and they’re by and large empty - popular sport for watching live then

Football, golf and tennis should not be in the Olympics.

Given they limit the number of sports that get Olympic involvement then involving three sports for which winning Olympic gold is not the crowning achievement, and many top level competitors aren't arsed about, seems vastly unfair on the smaller sports that have to continually lobby for their sport to be included.

The grandstand was actually quite full during the show jumping event ... it emptied very quickly as it is in full sun 30+ degrees ... the Medal Ceremony isn't until after the individual Medals event. So the stands will refill for that 🙂

The LA Olympics will be naff with the TV schedule. One of the great things about this one is that Paris is only an hour ahead.

Great race in the mountain bike final. Pidcock of GB was 40 seconds behind after a puncture but clawed his way back and sneaked through to win Gold.

Triathlon postponed again due to high pollution in the Seine...so it's not just British rivers that are open sewers, it was always a stupid idea to use the Seine. Triathlon is one of the events that I really enjoy.

Opening ceremony was a bit weird but nobody really cares about opening ceremonies.

Celine Dion belting out Edith Piaf in front of the Eiffel Tower was pretty special though.
I care about the bloody cost of it as a French taxpayer when the money could have been used for more pressing purposes.

That's the thing with the the Olympics. You end up watching stuff you would not normally watch.
At the end of the day, top level sport of any type is great.

Enjoyed watching Andy Murray tonight. This guy’s qualities are as close to being “Burnley” as it gets, his never say die approach and resilience is what we represent as a club and always have. It has always elevated us above our true level / size. I think that is why I admire him.

Our swimmers too - great stuff. The anchor leg guy finished 4th in the individual but would easily have won gold from his split tonight.

Really enjoying it. A great time to have no work on.

For those old enough to remember in the 1970's & 1980's there were many question marks over the athletes from countries like East Germany.
