Re: Southport Major Incident
The police woman in the press conference said he was from Cardiff.
It doesn't mean the article is wrong though if we're going back further.
Re: Southport Major Incident
Until an official statement of who this 17 yr old is we should keep quiet
As a 17 year old his identity if I understand the UK Law means officials cannot name him and so that post above cannot have come from the police

Re: Southport Major Incident
The crime has been so awful he will be named but I doubt before a conviction and senetancing
Re: Southport Major Incident
Please let's focus on the facts and think about the poor parents and families.

Absolutely heartbreaking. I can't imagine what those poor kids and their families are going through. It defies belief that someone can do this to innocent children. Beyond evil!

Shocking events today yet some on this message board have decided to use it to peddle their own personal agendas. I have not at this stage suspended any accounts but some of you should be hanging your heads in shame.
My thoughts remain with the victims of today’s events, their families, their friends and their communities.

Absolutely heartbreaking for the families and friends of those caught up in this horrible attack.
With a child of a similar age to those who were involved today, it has hit hard. I don’t want to live in fear of what could happen but these events are becoming more common and it’s scary the world we live in today.

Re: Southport Major Incident
We have friends in Southport, got in touch with them earlier.
He said his nieces daughter was in there but managed to get out the door and they also know the family of 2 children that were stabbed and are stable after surgery.
Absolutely tragic, our friends sounded devastated when we spoke with them.

Absolutely horrific events. A tragedy.
People on Twitter already using the event to further their own agenda, some of them looking like they will have egg on their face.
Thoughts with all those affected.

Just makes you want to hug your children/grandchildren and hope and pray for a better world for them. I can't read the updates or look at the news without crossing between anger and despair.

Re: Southport Major Incident
You don't need a 7 year old daughter for this news to be heartbreaking.
But I do, and this has really just broken my heart as im led watching my daughter play on her tablet. You send your kids to a Taylor Swift party for a bit of fun, and never in a million years do you feel something like this could happen. Its way beyond horrific. 2 lives cut short. Families left in complete shreds.
There are no words that are suitable for something so completely terrible.

Re: Southport Major Incident
It's the most horrific event I can remember, except for maybe dunblane on these shores.
Totally abhorrent. Whoever it is should never see the light of day
As someone with a 9 year old daughter who loves Taylor swift, if this would have been in our town she would have loved to have gone.
Kids just having fun, destroyed forever. Sickening.
Makes you wish we had the death penalty sometimes

Yesterday was my birthday and the highlight was taking my 8 month old grandson for dinner with our family. Can’t imagine living without him in my life. Kids are the rays of sunshine in a horrible world that somehow we have to change

Re: Southport Major Incident
The majority of people are alright & are absolutely sickened about what's happened. But we have a very very small minority of people that are just pure evil & need exterminating it really is that plain & simple. Extending beyond that in terms of a discussion how that's put into practice probably belongs on another thread. With the will it can easily be changed.

Re: Southport Major Incident
Sadly there has now been a 3rd child fatality
Re: Southport Major Incident
Another little girl has now died. Victims aged 6, 7 and 9. My grand daughters are 6 and 10. They attend a dance class in the village where they live. Can't help but think there but for the grace of God. Horrific. RIP little ones
Re: Southport Major Incident
This is awful and I can't comprehend it. Like somebody above, I've got a 7 year old daughter and the thought of her not being safe is terrifying.
RIP to those poor children and thoughts with their families.

Re: Southport Major Incident
I know someone who lives in the village the perpetrator lived in and it’s a nice area. It sounds like the family when in Cardiff seemed perfectly normal too. Difficult to know how to control this as a freak event but was the offender known to the authorities beforehand ? Clearly stricter security is needed at all children clubs and nurseries which is a sad way to have to live.

Re: Southport Major Incident
Unfortunately there isn't much that can be done to prevent these sort of atrocities. They happen without warning and most houses have knives in their kitchen which can be used.
Even when the Police used stop and search they were accused of targeting certain types so were on a hiding to nothing. You only have to look at the recent incident where the copper kicked someone in the head(which I don't condone) and the outrage. Pity there wasn't the same outrage with what they did to the Police in the first place.
Criminals have more rights than the Police. I really don't know where we go from here to help prevent these atrocities. I was in tears reading about this and feel for all the families involved.

I can only assume there's a mental health issue here. No way to pre-empt these atrocious acts, increased policing wouldn't stop them as many are random.

Obviously it is never the validation of a crime, particularly one as awful as this, but anyone who attacks numerous children with a knife has got to be mentally ill.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 5:51 pmIt's absolutely tragic.

Bring back capital punishment ,don’t care if they have psychological problems or not anyone who can kill children in cold blood doesn’t belong in our society .

Another child has died. This is truly awful. The perpetrator is of course mad. In many other countries he would have been shot.

Might not be the place ,but definitely the right time ,in 30 years when horrendous murders are in the distant past and psychologists assessing crimes that were committed before they were born say they are fit for parole and time seems to make the deed less severe would you like to be the one to tell these poor parents who’ll never see their daughters again that this evil sod may walk free.

Thing is how many times is it going to happen before it becomes the right time to have a open & honest discussion about it. How many more needless deaths do we have to encounter before capital punishment is due serious consideration.Stonehouse wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 8:51 pmMight not be the place ,but definitely the right time ,in 30 years when horrendous murders are in the distant past and psychologists assessing crimes that were committed before they were born say they are fit for parole and time seems to make the deed less severe would you like to be the one to tell these poor parents who’ll never see their daughters again that this evil sod may walk free.

Re: Southport Major Incident
I’m now sadly going to have to lock this thread given the number of posts we’ve been asked to remove. I’ll quote the statement from Merseyside Police.
Assistant Chief Constable Alex Goss says: "There has been much speculation and hypothesis around the status of a 17-year-old male who is currently in police custody, and some individuals are using this to bring violence and disorder to our streets.
"We have already said that the person arrested was born in the UK and speculation helps nobody at this time.“
