Being a left hander, he was a hero of mine growing up in the mid-late 90s. A sad day.

Re: Graham Thorpe
Desperately sad news. A huge name from my childhood and an absolutely excellent player. He was probably the only batsman who you could consistently rely on to hang around, so that England could build an innings. RIP

Re: Graham Thorpe
What sad news, a wonderful batsman for England. And just 55, it's no age at all.
Re: Graham Thorpe
Awful news. I think he'd been unwell for some time but 55 is no age. Fond memories of watching him score a ton in Barbados. RIP.

Re: Graham Thorpe
Oh my word, no age. Such sad news.
A player who played at a time in my life I could test cricket start to finish. Loved watching him bat. One of the more reliable batsmen that you could count on building a solid innings every time. May he RIP.

What a shock! Used to be favourite batter growing up, his kookaburra bat was something I always wanted.

Just awful to read. Only 55 but the poor man had been ill for over 2 years apparently. RIP Thorpey I enjoyed watching you play. Condolences to his family and friends.

Re: Graham Thorpe
Saw him in a memorable game at Edgbaston vs New Zealand in 1999 series when he held up one end whilst Alex Tudor scored 99 not out as a night watchman to win the game by 7 wickets.
Tragic for anyone to pass away at 55.

Re: Graham Thorpe
Sad news- 55 no age at all
Great and gutsy batsman who always seemed to have the ability to help re-build an innings coming in when England were in trouble and averaged 45 against the Aussies when they were at their dominant best.
RIP and condolences to his family and friends.

Re: Graham Thorpe
Horrible to hear - echoing many of the comments in this thread, just no age at all...
Pulled England out of a hole many a time when the side really wasn't up to much.
My thoughts and sincere condolences are with all of his family & friends. RIP Thorpey.

Re: Graham Thorpe
I watched episode 1 of M2B last night, it really concerned me how fragile Lyle looked after his sending off. This really highlights how serious mental health is, I think especially with athletes.

Re: Graham Thorpe
And the reason I get really p!ssed off when folk make light of mental health.
I hope they never go through it (Or lose a loved one/friend through it), they just need to understand our brains are all different and we have all had different life experiences, it does not make you a weak person, even some of the toughest men alive really struggle.
I heard comments from friends about Lyle Foster, ''need to get rid of him he's useless'' etc
Its sad that folk still think this way

55 is far too you to die. RIP, Graham Thorpe.
Re: Graham Thorpe
According to the Telegraph his family have said poor Graham passed by his own hand. I knew he had battled depression but this is shocking News. I feel so sorry for all concerned. I empathise with those who are left and think this is the worst kind of bereavement to have to come to terms with.Shocked and saddened to read this.
Re: Graham Thorpe
Very sad that someone who has acheived more than most of us could dream of, feels they have no worth.

Re: Graham Thorpe
Absolute tragic news. One memory I have of him was when we were in India on an England under 19 tour at the same time as the full squad.
We were staying in the same hotel and a few on the England boys dragged us into the nightclub with them, Thorpey and Phil the Cat Tufnell the main instigators, our coach wasn't too happy the next day!.
Thorpey along with the other senior players went and spoke with our coach and said it was all them, that they basically made us come and it was their fault we were leathered!!
Such a top, down to earth lad, he was playing test cricket, and we were on an Under 19 tour yet he treated us like he'd known us all his life..another tragic loss gone far too soon..
