The striker should be available to coach Scott Parker from next week. Unlike his father, João is left-handed and plays on the wing.

João Mendes began his playing career at Cruzeiro's academy, where he played for four seasons. In 2023, taken by Ronaldinho, he underwent tests at Barcelona and, after passing, signed a contract with the Catalan club's under-19s. He mainly played as a forward or on the wing where he was absolutely dreadful but more recently, he's been converted to a left-back where he has looked a lot better...

He will probably end up staying in that position or maybe as a CDM but he certainly doesn't have the talent to be playing further up the pitch and if it wasn't for his heritage and relation to Ronaldinho then he wouldn't even be on the radar as he doesn't look to have the attributes to succeed at the higher level...

He's only 19 though so still young enough to surprise in his development.
