Do we and Leeds have the same scouting/analytic research on players, oarticularly midfield and wingers where we always seem to be linked with the same player, or is there a mole in either camp.

I think what is more likely happening is that clubs know we want a player, and then let a story out that Leeds are also interested to hurry things along and inflate the price. Sarmiento? Hannibal? The lad from Paris FC? All seems very coincidental to me.

Either that are Leeds have no scouting network, are listening to journo's and going after players we are linked with.

I don't think any of us really want to see Benson leave. He scored some incredible goals in our last Championship campaign and gave us a moment at Ewood that will never be forgotten. However, as much a I like him, it's telling that Kompany rarely started him in the Championship and then chose to completely ignore him last season. On top of that, Parker hasn't given him a minute during the first two games. The Manager see's more than we do. There must be a reason Houtondji, Amdouni, Gudmundsson, Weghorst, Massengo and Zaroury have all been given the nod off the bench before him.

The problem is we have no idea if Benson has progressed as, say, Vitinho has, especially defensively. He was on the bench for both games, unused of course, but he was not what was required in either match. With Vitinho looking good on the right, both defensively and in attack, there is no place for Benson. Zaroury is more versatile as he seems to be able to play on both wings (however I'm not convinced he is good enough at the moment). If Vitinho goes or gets injured, with our current set up (which of course may still evolve) Benson has his limitations.

On Saturday at Sunderland with Clarke on the left I would expect Vitinho to be playing.

I agree and I believe it's because Parker seems to have moved away from Kompany's Idea that Vitihno can play full back. I've been saying for 2 years he's a very good player in the opposition half, but can be something of a liability in ours. Yes, as a winger he still has some defensive duties, but when his main purpose is offensive he looks a miles better player (imo).

Vitinho seems to have improved defensively in the two games so far and I like him playing as he does. He had a short stint at left back at Luton after Pires went off and did well.

I didn't 'quote' you. I know you were clarifying that all those players are legends by the logic of other posters.

I was following the thread to the logical conclusion that if someone 'was' a legend, then we can't sell them.

Benny certainly was not a legend last season, probably through no fault of his own, but who knows.

Agree entirely we this. We look a completely different threat the moment he walks on the pitch. He may not be a 90 minute player but the sort you need to win a championship and turn tight games.

Yes hopefully the conflict in reports regarding the option to buy vs obligation to buy works in Burnley's favour.

If we go up we can spend the money on him, and if we fail to go up, we're not committed to what is a very large fee for a Championship club.

Our financial position is nothing close to Leeds. They owe over £190m in instalments from transfers for a start.

Our position is healthy and we will be absolutely fine should we run out of parachute payments.

Some people just love to bash our financial model because they don’t understand it.

I understand it fully. I understand enough to know that it will work great until it doesn't.

What we've learnt over the last season is that our ever so clever American overlords are not immune to

- making mistakes
- hubris
- naivety
- having the wool pulled over their eyes.

They, and their financial model are not infallible so you can take your condescension and shove it up your hoop.
