Bizarre signing all round. Good move for him though.

Agreed
A signing I never understood at all.
£3m fee.
And conservative estimate of £2m in wages since he signed.
£5m outlay and likely to get nothing back.
That’s a lot of money for someone whose biggest contribution seemed to be dancing in peoples faces on the coach home !!

We pushed to sign him summer 2022 and unsettled him at Swansea, then signed him in January but never gave him a start. Beyond bizarre.

Re: ARTICLE: Obafemi in loan move to Plymouth
I do wonder if we signed him to try to keep Tella, them being good mates. Otherwise I struggle to see the logic. Reasonable EFL striker but not at the level we are at, i.e. top 2.
Re: ARTICLE: Obafemi in loan move to Plymouth
We signed him because we were concerned Tella was going to be recalled. He was going to be Tella's replacement but Jones didn't want him back. We covered a base that didn't turn out to need covering.
You can't really blame the thinking behind it, Swansea obviously weren't going to let one of their first teamers go for nothing mid-season though.

Shame we couldn’t have asked for Whittaker in a package deal.

I think this was inevitable. Very difficult to see him getting much if any game time for us. But good luck with the loan move

Way beyond bizarre. At the time I couldn't figure it out as it made no sense. Very often though if you follow the money it all makes sense, and I just wonder what the financial incentive for VK was in this transactionClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 10:57 pmWe pushed to sign him summer 2022 and unsettled him at Swansea, then signed him in January but never gave him a start. He didn't sign for us until 29th January and by then we knew Southampton didn't want Tella back and it had gone beyond the date where they could recall him. And he came on loan with a cut price deal to follow in the summer.BigGaz wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 11:08 pmWe signed him because we were concerned Tella was going to be recalled. That was the brief I got Tony. Supposedly It dragged out because we were trying to get him for very little and they wanted a larger fee.

Didn't we offer 9m or so at the start of that season?
They most of thought more of him than Tella at the time?

It was around that figure but then we got him much cheaper in the JanuaryQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 9:21 amDidn't we offer 9m or so at the start of that season?

Michael O'Bafemi
Re: ARTICLE: Obafemi in loan move to Plymouth
surely the best thing that can happen now is that he scores goals for Plymouth and we move him on for a reasonable fee. Good luck, Michael.
Re: ARTICLE: Obafemi in loan move to Plymouth
Hope his grandma doesn't watch him down there,or if she does gives Randy Rooney a swerve.
Re: ARTICLE: Obafemi in loan move to Plymouth
Got the impression he's never really been a Burnley player. The stories coming out of Millwall didn't sound too great. No real choice than to move him on.
Re: ARTICLE: Obafemi in loan move to Plymouth
File under Remco Van der Shaff and Jelle Vossen as the most pointless signing

Whatever it was, it doesn't sound like crime of the century... Late for training, perhaps?
We certainly won't miss him though. It was a strange signing to begin with.
