Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I thought Brownhill was too good for the Championship but not good enough for the Premier League. Why would a Premier team come in for him if that was the case.

When you don't understand what the term "fire sale" means.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Nope, but I didn't say I would sell him for £7m. But I can see why Alan would. He has a ready made captain in Worral.

Not to be flippant, but it only matters if they think Brownhill is good enough, not your opinion on him.

Im starting to find myself logging on now just to see if LongsideClaret has put any updates on.
I hope we don’t sell Amdouni or Brownhill (or even Benny for that matter).

I think this is due to a report saying that wolves are struggling to meet our valuation of O’Shea , therefore putting Ipswich in the driving seat if they do indeed want him, given that Brentford have signed the lad from Liverpool instead .

That isn't my opinion. It is what quite a lot of people on here think. Read properly what I wrote.burnleymik wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 1:09 pmNot to be flippant, but it only matters if they think Brownhill is good enough, not your opinion on him.

I’m surprised players like O’Shea and Clarke would consider Ipswich a good move for them, almost certain to be relegated and those two players are back playing in the Championship. I’d strongly fancy us and Ipswich will swap leagues next summer, then what does O’Shea do? Stuck in the same cycle, he’s better building something here imo

Probably doubling or trebling their salaries. It is probably that simple.KRBFC wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 1:40 pmI’m surprised players like O’Shea and Clarke would consider Ipswich a good move for them, almost certain to be relegated and those two players are back playing in the Championship. You’re probably right but potentially they see the project at Ipswich as being more attractive than Burnley?KRBFC wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 1:40 pmI’m surprised players like O’Shea and Clarke would consider Ipswich a good move for them, almost certain to be relegated and those two players are back playing in the Championship. Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I think Ipswich will do really well. They have the energy a Dyche Burnley did at the peak, and he did pretty well keeping teams of Championship players up.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I didn't mention anywhere that it was my opinion. I put 'IF' at the beginning which, read properly, indicates what is thought not what is my opinion.

Could be as high as mid table
Just like some on here thought of us last season

See very little in their squad capable of scoring goals

Wasn't it rumoured last week that he knocked them back as he wanted to go to Brentford? Wonder if his agent has gone back to them now Brentford, and possibly Wolves, are out of the picture.

Guaranteed Prem football this season vs. Possible Prem football next season
Pretty straightforward. Plus they'll probably put relegation clauses in their contracts should the worst happen and feel they can move on again if they want to.

Correct Jay laid it on for Josh who messed up.jojomk1 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 12:18 pmIf you watch the second goal he actually attempted to pass to Brownhill
Brownhill then scuffed the ball and it ended up with Koleosho who scored
A legend maybe, but we should have a better starter this season
And we still need at least one if not two CM's to challenge for starts
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
If Ipswich are relegated, possibly. But that's all hypotheticals, the certainties are if he moves to Ipswich now he plays Premier League football this season and gets a paid more for the next 10 months. If he stays with Burnley he plays Championship football this season and gets paid less than he did last year.
Next season is completely up in the air, there is just as much chance Ipswich stay up and Burnley stay down as the opposite outcome.

The strangest part of selling Brownhill for £7m is that we would have to lay out most of that on a replacement who may or may not adapt.
Keep him and try to get him on a new contract.

No wonder the club were so desperate to bring in a player with leadership qualities if they are planning to cash in on O’Shea and Brownhill.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 2:35 pmThe strangest part of selling Brownhill for £7m is that we would have to lay out most of that on a replacement who may or may not adapt.

He's made it clear he won't sign an extension. If you spent £7m on a replacement, at least you have an asset with potential resale value.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 2:35 pmThe strangest part of selling Brownhill for £7m is that we would have to lay out most of that on a replacement who may or may not adapt.

Not many clubs rip out the spine of the team and go on to have a successful season.

Where have you seen that the club are planning on selling Brownhill? Also where have you heard that the club were "desperate" to bring in a player with leadership qualities?kentonclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 2:39 pmNo wonder the club were so desperate to bring in a player with leadership qualities if they are planning to cash in on O’Shea and Brownhill.

Fire sale usually means smoke damaged goods being sold below their value.billyhamilton82 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 1:07 pmWhen you don't understand what the term "fire sale" means.
From what I have seen in this window, we are selling low quality goods for a good price.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Great point and I thought in M2BII AP insinuated that relegation would not lead to a fire sale. A bit concerned that it’s now approaching that.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 2:50 pmNot many clubs rip out the spine of the team and go on to have a successful season.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Again, not every single move me make has to strictly fit the "model". I think it would be smarter to keep your captain and key player and let him go on free instead of selling him on cheap just because we *might* make a profit on his replacement in three-four years.

That's the intel I was given. Maybe SP can change his mind but from what I was told this will be his last season and that he fancies a move abroad.

We are more like a shop where you can buy footballers, than a football club. Yes, and I know that every player has his price, but still, it feels like we'd sell everyone and end up with no playing staff, if the price was right.

I’m no fan of the owners for sure but you think that they are prepared to sell every player and end up with no players ? So effectively drop out of all the leagues and end up with no club ?
What would be the point of buying all the players we have brought in during the last few weeks ?
Just accept it for what it is…..we had too many players, too much debt, and too little revenue after being relegated to cover our commitments. Selling players is the only option if you don’t have sugar daddy owners prepared to cover £50m or £60m losses every season….and we know we don’t have that.
It’s crap….but that is our club now (and many others). Our previous ownership model (which many of our fans were also not happy with) was the exception not the rule.
