How stupid can we be?
Seduced by two excellent results I believed I could believe in another successful season.
Never in the field of football conflict have I witnessed such stupidity and shortsightedness in the running of a football club, most notably the sale by a football club of not just a couple of key players but it’s entire first team.
I am so f….. off not even the conceit of Coyle comes close to my dismay and general sadness at what has happened to my football team.

Spending 24 hours a day on here smugly dismissing all criticism of the owners with ad hominems while never actually advancing an argument of your own works great for you.
Are you Nori in disguise?

You've just replied to a reply, who didn't start the thread, nor did I make the first reply. I'm self employed in digital marketing. I could work for a living but I earn a lot of money working online. Now yes - I could work in a factory and do 12 hour shifts. Would you class that as stupid? In your world - yes. I don't fancy it. Sure, I will make some silly replies because I love Burnley FC and yeah it can get to me. That's what happens on forums.

We've won 2 and lost 1. If we win the next 10 in a row then lose 1, do we go into meltdown again?

If we don’t sign 5/6 VERY good Championship players PDQ, I think we all know where we’re going to be- in the bottom reaches of the league.pureclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 4:38 pm5 games 6 pts v 3 games 6 pts lets see in 10 games where we are

And when those two are followed by one disappointing result you immediately plunged into the slough of despond.SouthLondonexile wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 2:02 pmSeduced by two excellent results I believed I could believe in another successful season...
I'd venture that you at least, could be adjudged pretty damned stupid, or at best... shortsighted; why don't you wait until we've played 1/3 of our games rather than just three and then make an assessment of how our season's panning out? it'll be better for your blood-pressure if nothing else.

Re: How stupid can we be?
Another pathetic, whingeing thread lamenting, for some reason, the sake of players- for decent money- of players who didn't actually want to be here and play for us .
We'll need to strengthen, sure enough, for a tilt at promotion but Les see where we are at Christmas.
To be honest, reading some of the stuff on here since last night makes me think a season or two in the Championship will do a lot of our more delicate fans a world of good..

"who didn't actually want to be here & play for us" that within itself suggest there's a bigger problem at the club & a toxic cultures manifested itself. Happy people want to stay put not leave regardless of money although that's a factor.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 5:14 pmAnother pathetic, whingeing thread lamenting, for some reason, the sake of players- for decent money- of players who didn't actually want to be here and play for us .

It usually suggests they just want and have been given the opportunity to play at a higher level and also earn more.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 5:21 pm"who didn't actually want to be here & play for us" that within itself suggest there's a bigger problem at the club & a toxic cultures manifested itself. Re: How stupid can we be?
A odd 1 or 2 yes of course but it's almost as if people are queuing up to leave & can't wait to jump ship it doesn't suggest a happy environment.

Until I see evidence to support that, I'm inclined to think those players are wanting to play at a higher level and/or the club is proactively trying sell them.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 5:27 pmA odd 1 or 2 yes of course but it's almost as if people are queuing up to leave & can't wait to jump ship it doesn't suggest a happy environment.

Re: How stupid can we be?
The only reason I can think of of this mass selling is we were in a bad way in a 3 yr cycle for ffp.
This was rumored when we went down but was quashed quickly by Jjwatt (Ithink) or someone from the club
That and loan payments added in and maybe we really did need to find 100m+.
It's the only explanation for me.
Since after the last promotion and constant squad changes I dont hold BFC quite as close to me as I have before.
It's now just something I do on a match day. I just go watch.
The sales have caught me out raising my eyebrows a little but still it's just a turn up and watch job for me now untill there is a connection again.

Re: How stupid can we be?
The evidence should be the number of outgoings & more to follow them that have already left. It's pure delusion to pretend it's a happy camp people clearly want out & the club are only too happy to allow that to happen. It's a mess that's my polite way of describing the current state of affairs.
Re: How stupid can we be?
The number of outgoings can be explained by the reasons I've already offered. I was clear that some players want out (to play at a higher level and earn more) and/or the club is proactively seeking transfers (because they need the money). I note you said the same or similar on another thread:Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 9:08 pmThe evidence should be the number of outgoings & more to follow them that have already left. Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 4:31 pmHe conducted himself well & was professional about things when all the interest was swirling about. In truth he probably wanted to go to earn extra money & play at a higher level & you can't really blame him & from the club point of view the money was too good to refuse. It's a perfect storm at the moment with players wanting away & the club desperately needing cash.

So nothing to do with being ambitious, wanting to play at a higher level and/or better money, then?Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 5:21 pm"who didn't actually want to be here & play for us" that within itself suggest there's a bigger problem at the club & a toxic cultures manifested itself. Re: How stupid can we be?
It's a mess in the sense that we had a number of sought after players that wanted to further their careers and that we were offered excellent money for them .Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 9:08 pmThe evidence should be the number of outgoings & more to follow them that have already left. That's it. I don't understand the obsession with a "happy camp" or otherwise .
You really think, for example, Odobert, Berg or O'Shea would prefer to stay at the club in a lower league on less money ?
Naive doesn't even begin to describe your thinking.

Re: How stupid can we be?
It's all old hat I've even said the same as yourself in my other earlier posts that said I still think people are unhappy at the club & would still pursue other opportunities with like for like money. Far too much as happened too quickly at the club within a short space of time.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 7:31 amIt's a mess in the sense that we had a number of sought after players that wanted to further their careers and that we were offered excellent money for them .

Re: How stupid can we be?
What's rather amazing to me right now is that quite a few people are starting to say 'we can have a tilt', 'let's see where we are by Christmas' 'nothings guaranteed', and yet last season plenty wer 'relegation not a problem. - this side will walk the Championship' etc etc and now these people are blithely accepting the dismantling of that.
With the debt we are in we need to be promoted and in the next 2 years (maybe 3 at the very outside). Otherwise this summer will look like a holiday camp in comparison to the firewall that will happen then.

Re: How stupid can we be?
Nobody's blithely accepting anything but plenty are accepting the reality, harsh or otherwise, that talented players who want to move on to better prospects and pay will do so especially in the last week or so of a transfer window.

Re: How stupid can we be?
There were several posts after Kompany departed along the lines of “If we don’t win the Championship by amassing over 101 points with the squad we have the new manager will be a failure”.
Thankfully, those posts have long disappeared and the expectations revised sharply downwards.

Re: How stupid can we be?
And to add on - every player signed last summer would have had a big relegation clause dictating terms if it happened. The club will include a drop in wages/bonus's for the player and the reciprocal of that will be players get a chance to move on if a clause(s) are met (assuming minimum buyout spend , addons, etc). Thats how we entice the players in the first place, they ain't coming for the Bene 'n' Hot and walks up Pendle Hill. They are coming to Burnley to put themselves in the shop window for a better future when they decide they want to move on.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 7:31 amIt's a mess in the sense that we had a number of sought after players that wanted to further their careers and that we were offered excellent money for them .

This should absolutely not be shocking at all to any, as is plain as day modern football which happens at any other club. Absolutely periless to stop good players going to better clubs. As soon as it was confirmed in May, the board would have had a list of potential replacements for the top players of whom other clubs would have had an interest in.
Take O'Shea for example, he has gone to Ipswich to get a full crack at being in the shop window in the PL. I would say 90% chance they will get relegated, and I'd say he knows that, but that puts him as a young player a better chance of playing at the highest league for as long as possible.

Re: How stupid can we be?
Seeing as we've only lost 14 games in our last four visits to the championship your reply is as unrealistic as could be.
Pathetic actually.
