New striker options

Post by PremierLeagueClass » Wed Aug 28, 2024 10:19 am

Thought there was too much going on in the transfers thread.

As it’s looking likely Foster is off, we have to bring someone in before the weekend.

Any suggestions? We know the club read this board so you never know…

I think we need two as a priority.

Morgan Whittaker looked crap when I saw him on Plymouth’s opening day but his record and age suggest a player we should be all over. No idea what he’s worth or what his contractual position is.

Haji Wright from Coventry has impressed me everytime I have seen him and he can play as a wide forward or through the middle. With the amount of money we’ve brought in, I see no reason why we SHOULDNT be capable of a signing like this.

Chuba Akpom from Ajax is such an obvious link - if we aren’t trying to give them Weghorst+£5m or so then I’m not sure what we’re playing at.

Emmanuel Latte Lath from Boro, again, no reason whatsoever after bringing in £150m that he shouldn’t be a target.

Ipswich - £25million (loan first with obligation) is the rumour from yesterday.

If Cornet has had an op and sorted the minor recurring injury then I would take him to play in behind a striker. Known quantity, real pace, good positive attitude. Would also look to cancel Mellon's loan if possible and get him involved when he's fit again.

It really is a case of finding that striker before Friday the way the team is shaping up so I think it is a good idea to open up a dedicated thread for expression. Sorry I don't know enough to suggest any names but surely there has to be some player out there better than what we currently have. Team sharing up nicely this morning with the confirmation of the Hannibal signing and near confirmation of Anthony. Fingers also crossed that Sarmiento gets over the line.
Suddenly goals seem on the agenda and a new goalscoring striker should see us challenging

If you have pace either side of him then he can fulfil roles similar to Barnes/Vokes. He seemed to have improved from what I saw last year.

Given some of the noise when he left I never thought an Ings return would be a good idea but actually right here right now it doesn’t sound ridiculous. Someone who we could reasonably expect to settle quickly and has the skill and experience to improve us.

Silva confirmed two weeks ago that Stansfield would be staying put at Fulham this season and was part of his plans moving forward. This, after Birmingham were fairly confident of getting the player on loan again for this season. I think he scored for Fulham last night.

Played just 28 games and netted 16 times for Norwich last season at this level. We currently don’t have a striker at the club who will offer anywhere near that goal return.

There’s only one striker we should going all out for (would cost about 10-15m)

Kevin Denkey, he’s 23 years old and he’s a goal machine.

Scored 28 goals in 35 games last season.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B09uDLPzq1I

I honestly believe he’s moving to Chelsea/Liverpool in 24 months for 50m plus.

Depends how much we are willing to spend and how ambitious. Two names already suggested on here would be my choices in Adebayo and Denkey. Both would be 10-15m though.

I can understand why he’s very raw but has all the ability.

This is a lad that I think would be a real show of intent if we were to sign him.

We need two strikers.

One of Foster's main failings was his inability to do the basics such as hold up the ball.

IMO we definitely need an Ashley Barnes/Sam Vokes type with an aerial presence.

Mitrovic would be perfect but highly unlikely.

Left field shout Will Keane who is currently being chased by West Brom for £750k.

Good in the air and the will lead the line whilst able to score. Caveat is that he is nearly 32.

We also need a quick dimunitive striker who can play off knock downs in a 442 similar to Nathan Tella and an eye for goal 20 + in a season.

Tom Cannon?

Jay Stansfield?

Admittedy it is a left field shout and I expected criticism, but he is the best at what he does, the dirty work aka Barnes, hence why Corberan is willing to pay nearly a million quid for him at 32

Jay can't hold the ball up and just hasn't got the required presence anymore.

I think of the owners are serious about getting back up this time round (and I think they will have to be), that’s what we will have to spend.

Sounds mad but this is exactly the reason I'd have signed McBurnie. We should have taken both him and O'Hare imo.

If we could sign him then he would definitely be an upgrade on Foster.

Unfortunately I only get to see the updates on here from the U21 matches (thanks to those that keep us up to date), but obviously not as good as seeing them in person. Are there any forwards in the U21 squad that could possibly step up ala Dwight McNeil situation that Dyche was forced in to due to lack of squad depth etc.

Not sure about Adebajo. Good player but he'd totally dictate our style of play.

We'd have to have a real strict pattern of play to avoid just going long into him which I'm not sure we have. And if we were playing a controlled possession game then he wouldn't really fit the system, so I'm not sure he really fits.

Supposedly Fabian Hurzeler doesn't think Evan Ferguson is where he needs to be yet... I'd be all over a loan for him if possible. Pay a fee, whatever.

Oh and Adebayo/Akpom would be good.

Perhaps a few of last night’s twattish comments made about him might be taken back, if that’s the case.

Rating / not rating him is fair enough, the rest didn’t sit well.

Akpom and Whittaker would be two excellent signings (imo) and probably realistic in terms of their current situations and the finances at their clubs.

No. If Mellon wasn't injured and loaned out he'd have been the closest. Masara is more of a winger than a striker. Richardson more of a 10 and since he's not featured for weeks and wasn't on the bench at Sunderland I assume he's injured again too.
