OK JimmyRobbo, I'll ask. Why have you followed Laurent's career fairly closely? Family member?

Agreed and I think he's shown that he's got good character tbf. Had a rough year last year got a lot of stick (myself included, never at the game though) and has come through it.
I was impressed with him at Sunderland when he punched one around his 6 yard line and took a real whack in doing so, really put his body on the line - it was the sort of thing that he was reluctant to do for me last year so I was really pleased to see that.

Just out of interest, Jimmy. What made you decide to follow Laurent’s career?JimmyRobbo wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 10:54 amI've folloowed Laurent's career reasonably closely.
I've said it elsewhere and I'll say it again, it is an awful signing unless he is a reserve. He is a manager sacker. He is capable of everything but he is just another mmissing player in far too many performances. Browny is 10x as valuable, if not more.
Why do we think Stoke are prepared to let their "captain" walk?
If we want a potter, we should be looking at Berger. He is a difference maker.

Not a patch on him. I saw SB take teams to pieces before he arrived at our door. I haven't seen much of it from JL,
I hope I'm wrong. Honestly, he has everything. He's a big unit, too. I've just been so disappointed by him for far too long.

You’ve got to wonder if Pace has taken what that Checkers fella said on board. He feels like he wants some old heads or a spine (for the dressing room at least).
I wont comment on Laurent as a footballer, but going off what has been said on here - he’s maybe more of deputy to Cullen / Browny but maybe more for policing the dressing room.
The whittaker connection I like in theory. He’s a young progressive player that could grow with us, and would show me we still have an eye on developing for profit.
Balance is the key to stability. I just hope Pace doesnt go too far the other way and cram the team with journeymen while in panic mode.

Tyler Morton still not gone anywhere from Liverpool yet
Veiga and Chukweumeka still at Chelsea I believe
Appreciate would have to be loans as not enough dry powder in Alan's desk

Hopefully for what we're losing in quality we're gaining in character. I can only assume this is a prerequisite for Parker.
There's a balance to be had as we found out last season, and are witnessing now, but we've still got a few big gaps in quality that need to be filled.

Character is all well and good but if you're selling all the quality and not replacing it that is also a problem.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 11:26 amHopefully for what we're losing in quality we're gaining in character. I can only assume this is a prerequisite for Parker.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
It was obvious to everyone that the thing we missed last season was leaders, experience and grit.
In the last Championship season we had Cork and Barnes who were never replaced.
SP is restructuring around a solid spine of the team.
Worrall (Captain for a good number of years at Forest)
Laurent (Captain at Stoke until this season)
We need a Barnes replacement now.

It’s a **** show of a window yet again. Fans have a right to be concerned, especially as in 2 games we have created the square root of f**k all, just before our derby game. Worrying times.

We need goals. Whittaker got 19 last season in a bad Plymouth team. Surely he has to be worth the reported £10m. You don't get goalscorers from English teams for peanuts.

But all we’ve probably done is ****** Plymouth and Whittaker off with an insulting offer. And an offer that makes us look skint.

From Parker’s presser it seems like a lot of players who have left this summer are listening to the people advising them and thinking that moving is for the best and not gone about it in the best way. Club have obviously had valuations for players that we probably didn’t think would be met

He's exactly the kind of signing we would have made in the old days following a relegation. Using some of our PL financial clout to sign one of the best young strikers in the Championship the year before. Like we did with Andre Gray.

It does work the other way as well, officially Foster, Koleosho, Brownhill, Weghorst, Vitinho, Benson, Amdouni & Tresor are still with the club
If deals can't be done, then they will have to get on with it and knuckle down.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
One of the most concerning things for me is that it seems if we bring a player in then the equivalent is leaving.
So regardless of whether that player is good enough now, or ever, or even match fit he plays, from the off and most of every 90mins every game, twice a week, because we have no senior back up players.
So when we get any injuries or suspensions then we'll be playing other players out of position and possibly young raw players out of position.
The main term that I used for last season debacle was amateurish. Things done that would be laughed at in a Sunday League set up.
This, with 2 days to go to rectify it is... can't think of a word

This. It's time someone grew a pair and told them to pay up or **** off.
Re Whittaker: Plymouth are (quietly) hawking him. 10m gets him. They have major cashflow problems and it's why offering Obafemi as part of the deal as surrogate for cash won't get him.

I don't pretend to understand the whole complicated financial structure but we were bought in a specific manner (not sure whether that's a euphemism or not) which means basic 2 + 2 calculations don't, sadly, apply.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 8:39 amNo that 250m is excluding any transfers.
Sponsors, tv money, parachute payments.
The club has made a shed load of money and should not be struggling financially.
