Re: Scott Parker- Pre Rovers Presser
That was an honest press conference. Scott is asking us to get behind whatever team he puts out on Saturday. It doesn't help at all if some posters on here are constantly undermining the will and the committment of so many in the Club. He behaves with dignity and so should we . At the very least we should be constructive in criticism and encouraging genuine efforts to succeed on and off the pitch.

I don't believe 100% of what is going on off the pitch is giving us a genuine effort to succeed.Burtonwoodclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 11:43 amThat was an honest press conference. I certainly believe Parker is doing his very best in this crazy situation, but ultimately the board are making the decisions (with Parker only being a coach) to sell so many of our players at such a late stage. If this culminates in us being a much worse team then they have to take responsibility.
I will always be 100% behind the team and will Saturday, but I think unless things change drastically in the next 36 hours, fans will have every reason to be annoyed with the board on Saturday if we lose.

The bit where he says 'whatever team' he puts out is worrying.

Very honest in his assessment and measured but I think to settle a team that can win on Saturday is a big ask. Hope I am wrong.

It's the way it is. SP alludes it to in the presser. It is the same for other clubs as well. It is absolutely insane that the transfer window closes several weeks after the season starts.burnleymik wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 11:51 amI don't believe 100% of what is going on off the pitch is giving us a genuine effort to succeed.

In an ideal world it would be great to do all the trading before the season starts but that isn't possible. A lot of players and even more so their agents will push it to the limit seeing if better offers come in. They will then decide where to go. They don't care about the clubs or fans-they only care about the best deal that they can get. Football just mirrors the greedy corporate society that we live in.

This isn't down to just the players and their agents. "The way it is", is a bit of a cop out, when you are talking on the scale of what is being done here.

Re: Scott Parker- Pre Rovers Presser
It appears that we had a load of mercenaries who wanted to leave. Yes the board obviously wanted to maximise the sales. I am under no illusion that they probably care as much about the club as the exiting players but if a player is refusing to play for us, I want that player out of our club. If Cullen and Koleosho are still here and fit along with Foster,Trafford etc we can still put out 8 players that started the game against Luton. That won't be a disaster.burnleymik wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 2:47 pmThis isn't down to just the players and their agents. Do you think Leeds and Luton want to lose all their best players also? What will Plymouth fans say if they lose Whittaker at the last minute and don't have a chance to replace him? I could go on. The window should close before the season starts then all the teams know what they are working with.
By the end of the window we should have a decent squad that will be able to compete near the top of the league. The frustrating thing is that it may take a month or two before we gel and start playing our best stuff.
I do understand it from a player's point of view also. If he is being offered a deal that doubles his salary and he is given an opportunity to play at a higher level but his employer turns around and says that he is not going to allow him to leave, how do you think that player is going to react?

Good interview and I have to say I've been really impressed with how he's conducted himself since he's been here. It's been a testing few weeks but he's the one big positive throughout. Hopefully we're in decent enough shape come tomorrow night. If so I've every confidence in him doing a good job.

Re: Scott Parker- Pre Rovers Presser
Imo nothing which is going on at the club right now is down to Parker or Parker's fault. I think it's very clear that the landscape has changed dramatically since he took charge and actually very dramatically since he waltzed the team through that first victory at Luton. If he's got character (which I believe he has) he'll roll his sleeves up, try to make the best of it and do everything in his power to get things moving in the right direction. Good luck to him and he's got my full backing (as well as a fair degree of sympathy!!)

They tried that a few years ago but the rest of Europe was still open. They were coming in for players from the English leagues and they then couldn't replace them. It will only work if Everyone agrees to it.Anonymous Claret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 3:27 pmThe window should close before the season starts then all the teams know what they are working with.

The agents know the details and clauses in their clients contracts. That is how a mass exodus can be facilitated.burnleymik wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 2:47 pmThis isn't down to just the players and their agents. The board are the ones who ultimately make the call who to sell, when and the price.

Re: Scott Parker- Pre Rovers Presser
I just don't believe all this is solely down to agents, mercenary players and clauses in their contracts. For example there were rumours yesterday that the club was touting Josh Brownhill to Premier League clubs and it seems they were trying quite hard to offload Foster.mybloodisclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 1:40 amThe agents know the details and clauses in their clients contracts. Even if it did boil down to contractual clauses, then those are clauses our board agreed to upon signing the players.
Ultimately the board do have a high level of responsibility for what has happened over the last week, either directly or indirectly. I am sure Parker cannot be best pleased with the position he has been put in because it's clearly through no fault of his.

Re: Scott Parker- Pre Rovers Presser
Rumours again. Why would they actively be touting players do you think? If it’s because of the finances at the club why are other people complaining that we are not spending the Berg and Odobert money?burnleymik wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 7:49 amI just don't believe all this is solely down to agents, mercenary players and clauses in their contracts. Only my thoughts but try this - Scott Parker arrives at Burnley and sees a bloated squad on VK signings of players who seem both unhappy that VK has gone and they are in a foreign country having to deal with relegation after rarely winning in last year. Many of these players have not been playing regularly and lack of fitness and injuries have subdued the mood at the club.
Maybe he’s said he wants to bring in some of his own players (it happens at lots of clubs over the years) and establish his own authority at the club. Maybe the VK players are in cliques and displaying negativity so decides with AP that changes are needed. Maybe this has not been handled as well as it might’ve been and disharmony has come to a head.
I personally am not unhappy that pkaters have gone as we need a new positive focus so let’s get behind the club whether that is SP or AP. Have we got a choice?

Re: Scott Parker- Pre Rovers Presser
If players want to go, then of course we are going to try and get rid if the price is right - it's what all clubs do. You don't have players on good money stinking the place out when you can move them on.
They never gave a toss about the club or fans. I don't like defending the board, however, no-one running a professional football is going to have half-arsed assets, the want-aways, sat around drawing large paycheque and spreading toxicity.

Re: Scott Parker- Pre Rovers Presser
Absolutely spot on. The thing which is galling me right now is that there was a whole summer following relegation when I expected the want aways to make their feelings clear. Why did it take until after we'd spent weeks searching for a new manager, he'd taken the squad through pre season, he'd got a good idea of his preferred line up and it was the eve of the season and actually the season had kicked off?? Surely only the players and agents can be to blame for this?Clovius Boofus wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 8:58 amIf players want to go, then of course we are going to try and get rid if the price is right - it's what all clubs do. Re: Scott Parker- Pre Rovers Presser
Imagine with every thing that has gone on, if we still had VK being asked the same questions. Parker has presented himself as a real rock in this club, in the background of events that could not have been fully foreseen.
Re: Scott Parker- Pre Rovers Presser
Good questions from Andy Bayes and good answers from Parker. He seems to get it. Hope he puts a rocket up em before the game tomorrow.
