Re: Clarets v Rovers
Probably a fair result.
Much better than I thought it might be having watched the last 2 games. A draw isn't the end of the world.
I think we lacked a presence at centre-forward. Is that predictable? Foster did score, tbf.
Another game without losing against them.

Re: Clarets v Rovers
I’d have taken a point before the game, albeit a 0-0 so they couldn’t celebrate a goal, but we were clueless going forwards.
Lots to work on.

They tried to stop us playing with keep getting the game stopped. At least these players now know for the return. I think Brownhill started well and we looked really good but when his level dropped we seemed to drop our pacy attacking threat.

Very frustrating, but this team will be okay. I would’ve settled for a point this morning.

We'll get a lot better as the season goes on. Good debuts for Anthony and Laurent, who in thr first half was more or less flawless

Rough house tactics by Rovers helped by an inept ref.Positives Lyal and Anthony had good games as did Laurent .We will get better once new guys bed in.Traff pulled off some decent saves but his positioning was questionable for Rovers goal. Two points dropped now we need 3 v DL

I was expecting more, but there's still Cullen and Flemming to come in. I think Flemming will help us with the lacking of shots on target / goals.

As a game within the bigger picture of the season, lots to work on and to not win after the opposition goes down to 10 is always disappointing. As the East Lancs derby, well they still haven’t beaten us in fourteen years- and to see them celebrate a 1-1 draw like they’d won the league speaks volumes.

Re: Clarets v Rovers
Our problem today is that we had no movement beyond our widemen. We just stood static expecting them to beat their man. Midfielders or fullbacks need to create apace for them running beyond or inside.

We didn't lose and to coin a phrase that's the worst we'll play this season.. some time on the training pitch with a settled squad will work wonders to find that cutting edge.. the return fixture will be totally different

I’m happy with that today
Not the result we wanted but some really promising signs. Mega impressed with Laurent and Foster today.
Though Koleosho and Mejbri struggled though

Re: Clarets v Rovers
I think our attacking mechanisms are too predictable. It's either push the ball on wing and hope our wide players produce some magic, or try to find forwards with the ball through middle, with them coming deep. We are missing a midfielder who can carry the ball well, like Berge used to.willsclarets wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 2:41 pmOur problem today is that we had no movement beyond our widemen. Worrall and Esteve were really good, Brownhill started superbly but faded a bit and Anthony had lots of the ball and put a lovely cross in for Foster’s goal.
The rest were probably under par.

Am I watching Radio Blackburn TV?
All emphasis appears to be how fantastic Blackburn are. They scored a raggy goal and had to defend for most of the match with only 28% possession.
They did alright and deserve some credit but, this is putrid cr@p.

Re: Clarets v Rovers
Biggest disappointment for me wasn't really the players but the tactics. We needed to play with more intensity once they had a man sent off and keep the ball better to stretch them.
Instead we played more direct and played into their hands.
You don't really have much of an advantage if you're a man up pinging balls high into their box.

I hate giving them credit, but they played the last half hour of the match with ten men and probably had the best two chances in the second half.JimmyRobbo wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 2:47 pmAm I watching Radio Blackburn TV?

We played well in spells, but we didn't have a shot for 60 minutes. They had the best chance of the second half with 10 men. These are just facts, I'm not mad about it, they just are.JimmyRobbo wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 2:47 pmAm I watching Radio Blackburn TV?

Re: Clarets v Rovers
Rovers fans think they have won the league after that. Bless'em.

Re: Clarets v Rovers
First half was really good, everything that I hope this team will become, high intensity pressing, wing play and dangerous, albeit still without creating clear chances.
Second half was more even and then the red card meant they completely sat in, and our brand new team didn’t have the patterns of play to unlock it.
Simply have to remember most of this team in key areas has only just been thrown together, with Sarmiento and Laurent signing just yesterday.

It shows where we are as a squad when we still have to bring on JayRod to try and win us the game. Don't get me wrong there was a lot of good things on display today but a goal threat wasn't one of them.

Koleosho was disappointing, which is why I wanted to keep Zaroury... I don't think Luca's footballing ability is as good against teams that let us have the ball, but he's dangerous in space.
Yes, he played off the right but again, that's why I was concerned with our transfer business as all of our wingers bar Benson do their best stuff off the left.

I was referring to Sky TV.
Are you watching it? Given 20 mins now of how brilliant Rovers were and how hard done to they were. I'm not even sure they've replayed our goal.

Hopefully Sarmiento can come in on the right so Koleosho can play his best position.
Re: Clarets v Rovers
He’s been injured for the past week or so and still building up his fluency from the longer term injury imo. Sarmiento will offer us that ability in tight spaces when he’s up to speed.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 2:53 pmKoleosho was disappointing, which is why I wanted to keep Zaroury... Esteve looks like he has a hammy strain
Benson and his dodgy ankles

I didn't see it last season either tbh, thought he got dispossessed/poor passes all too often when turning infield.
Sarmiento and Flemming hopefully yeah.
The game come too quick for us with the additions but I think after Sunderland away last week we'd have all taken a 1-1 today.

Re: Clarets v Rovers
I thought we did pretty well considering the squad upheaval. First half was impressive and, as others have said, second half was a tougher test once Rovers were sitting back with 10 men. Credit to them, they defended well and had the better chances (great goal too). There was no lack of commitment from either side - only a lack of quality in the final third. The international break should help us settle and hopefully we can kick on and improve as the season progresses.

Re: Clarets v Rovers
I thought Koleosho was good, especially first half where I thought he was easily our biggest threat.
Surprised to read so many are disappointed with him.

Re: Clarets v Rovers
Koleosho had so much of the ball but wasted so much of it, and hardly delivered any decent balls in. Flattered to deceive would be my description of him today. But he's still finding his feet tbf after a long layoff and I think we'd be expecting him to score a few and make plenty of assists this season.
