Didn't see that coming.
Re: Steve Bruce
Were looking to appoint former Barrow manager Pete Wild but fans were kicking off, wanted a big name and here they are.

Weirdly, this could be a good appointment for them

He couldn't be arsed at Newcastle, imagine what he'll be like there. Hope they have good coaches to do the actual work.

Re: Steve Bruce
Could be a decent appointment, but with their squad, they would be very lucky to get to the play offs this season.

Not everyone's choice but a modern day BFS and I think he will take them up.

Excellent appointment - second only to Scott Parker in his recent Championship achievements.

Re: Steve Bruce
Bit of a surprise - it could work - as far as high profile managers are concerned Mick McCarthy struggled there but they were in the Championship at the time
Pete Wild strongly linked with the Carlisle job but some of their fans are sceptical citing the reasons he parted company with Barrow - although I don't know what the story was there

Re: Steve Bruce
Barrow tailed off dramatically last season, went from looking like an automatic promotion spot was theirs to not even making the playoffs in the space of weeks.

Re: Steve Bruce
I remember they looked almost certain to make the play-offs and then missed out having tailed-off badly towards the end of the season
Even so, finishing 8th/9th was quite an achievement for Barrow - some Carlisle fans seem to be suggesting something happened between him and the players which triggered his departure and that has put them off appointing him - but of course it could be as simple as their form nosedived when it mattered most that he should have steadied the ship and guided them into the play-offs
