Scott Parker
Scott Parker
Good to see he was out in the community at Burnley college yesterday and saw something else recently of him at a local food bank.
Think that's already more times I've seen him doing community events in a few months than Kompany in 2 years.
It might not be much to do with the football side but it's an important side of the job and something I feel like we have lost a bit recently. Not sure how big Dyche was on that side of things, I've got a feeling it died off a little bit towards the end of his tenure as well but might be wrong.

Re: Scott Parker
Very good to hear. I always thought Sean Dyche was good on the commmunity stuff- he took it seriously and made time.
Re: Scott Parker
Great to see. We'd really lost the community feel over the last couple of years.

Re: Scott Parker
Yep. Kompany definitely gave the impression of not giving a toss about the town itself, he was here for the football and that's it. If we could have trained in Manchester I'm sure he'd have been delighted.

Re: Scott Parker
Yes, my son was there and said he was “a lovely person”.
I have to say, I wasn’t a fan when he signed, but he’s grown on me so much as a person - how he’s conducted himself, his openness/honesty, his community work, etc - that I’m completely on side and willing him well for him, not just for Burnley.
Don’t actually remember being so keen to see a manager be successful on a personal level, beyond the impact that would have for the club.

Not sure what the manager is obliged to do "in the community". The players, I believe but I stand to be corrected, have to perform certain "duties" - hospitals at Xmas goes back years - but some do certain things on top of those.Goliath wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 4:29 pmGood to see he was out in the community at Burnley college yesterday and saw something else recently of him at a local food bank.

SP comes across as charismatic. He seems an easy sort of bloke. One never can tell because not everybody says Eddie Howe is as angelic as he looks.
But SP does come across very, very well and the important thing is he is going to places and, by the sounds of it, doing so with a smile.
Long may this continue.

Re: Scott Parker
I assume it's basically up to the manager. I'm sure they're contracted to do some but when you hold as much power as Kompany did then I doubt anybody would be brave enough to try and force him into making more appearances.ecc wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 9:14 pmNot sure what the manager is obliged to do "in the community". Not sure about Howe, I always thought he just looked painfully shy. I remember him and Tindall doing something at a local chippy and it being horribly awkward to watch. He looks a lot more comfortable within himself these days.
I think thr players are obliged to do some but not all do. I remember Shackell and Marney as 2 that didn't seem to like doing many appearances or interviews. They possibly get fines for it but I'm sure they'd be relatively small.

It's important I think to be grounded about perceptions. The kompany love in got nauseating & he bolted at the first time of asking. I'm always mindful of circumstances changing as often the case.

Re: Scott Parker
Fair play to SP. Kompany also did stuff at Burnley College but let’s not that get in the way!
Re: Scott Parker
Bring back the kids Xmas parties where manager and squad attend. Great days. My lad is too old for it now but between 6 and 12 he loved meeting the players every year and getting stuff signed.
Re: Scott Parker
That's one of the very few I could remember. Think he had the chairman with him as well so I'm not sure he had much choice with that one.helmclaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 10:53 pmFair play to SP. Kompany also did stuff at Burnley College but let’s not that get in the way!
I started a thread last season on the topic in fact because it seemed like he was failing to make those appearances, even during the international breaks which is when he should have had the free time to do so. It's good to see Parker is using the time to try and get more involved in the town.
Re: Scott Parker
Have to admit, despite still having doubts about whether or not he will be good enough to get us promoted, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how he has come across, when I’ve seen him interviewed.NewClaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 8:55 pmYes, my son was there and said he was “a lovely person”.

As you say, not just for Burnley, but I do want him to succeed. He still has a bit of a cockney wide boy about him, but not half as much as much as I thought!!

Scottie can be a wide as the Thames and talk like an extra from Eastenders as long as he gets us promoted

He went to the Burnley College more than once, Nelson and Colne too. But anything to have a dig at him eh?Goliath wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 1:00 amThat's one of the very few I could remember. Think he had the chairman with him as well so I'm not sure he had much choice with that one.

It’s all online this, but guess it doesn’t fit the narrative.

Re: Scott Parker
Bobby says he gets his Ball Assistants from Burnley College…
Re: Scott Parker
Which supports the theory that he wasn't too fond of doing them and he had too much influence if he could dictate whether the chairman turned up or not. It should be the other way round.
Regardless this is more about Parker who seems much keener on integrating himself. On the video at the college , Russell Ball seems to imply that exact point.
