Moaning about this type of player on a free, short contract just shows the level of arrogance that's developed in some of our fanbase.

It’s probably going to cost the club about £700,000 in wages if he only plays 3 or 4 games and helps us get promoted then it’s a win win situation,or would you try and get through to the next transfer window with Ekdal ,Beyer apparently out long term and Esteve possibly out for weeks with an injury that could be re occurring?Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 8:36 pmBen Mee was wanted by a premier league team, who was after Egan.

Just some people taking exception to the fact Sheff utd, apparently, didn't want him, and that it doesn't appear there was competition for his signature.

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets land former Blade Egan
He's a good signing in our circumstances, but he isn't excellent. I've never tried to slag him off, just pointed out a few relevant facts. If Beyer and Ekdal were fit he wouldn't be here. They aren't so I'm glad we've got him, but don't try and paint it other than it is, or make out that I'm wanting to attack the guy, because I'm not.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 8:49 pmI’m sorry but this is an excellent signing so no need for anyone to work anything out and come back.

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets land former Blade Egan
Sounds like a solid, back up type of signing and I've absolutely no problem with it. I hope he doesn't become this season's Jon Walters or Nathan Redmond ie, experienced pro with plenty of games under his belt, but at an age where he's prone to picking up an injury which turns out to be pretty serious and he basically disappears. I also worry that this signing means not only are Beyer and Ekdal a long way off, but Esteve is likely some way from fitness too and that would be concerning.

A solid centre half. Also captain for a time at Sheffield United so Parker has obviously quickly identified we need some leaders.

Eventually. The thing being though we didn't really have a choice & both moved upwards the players instigated the moves. Sheffield United let it expire & this is sideways. I don't understand any parrell drawings between the players. Aside of that it's not a bad idea for depth & cover for the long season ahead.

Mee jumped as soon as we was relegated & tarks wouldn't sign a new contract regarding SU I think it would have become knowledge had JE refused an extension I've got reasonable grounds to believe it wasnt offered. He's not here for the money put it that way which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Another Irish lad; real Dyche signing, this.
Huge difference in transfer strategies between Kompany and Parker. No bad thing though, I’m glad we’re adding experience and leadership to the ranks.

I quite like this signing but doesn't that leave us with 8 centre halves?
Esteve
Worrall
Beyer
Humphries
Egan Riley
Ekdal
Delcroix
Egan
Keeping our players fit ought to be a priority for us judging by the fact signing Egan is probably justified.
Didn't our new Physio leave after 2 weeks?
Lack of communication around injuries generally.
Is there a serious issue in this department?

Nobody really knows whats happening with Bayer, Ekdal and Delcroix. If they're fit by January i wouldn't be surprised if Ekdal and Delcroix are next out of the door. I would imagine the like of Ekdal… Delcroix… and even Beyer will be sold in january to finish the clear out ….. those 3 have proven to be extremely i jury prone.
Re: ARTICLE: Clarets land former Blade Egan
Which side does he play? I have vague memories that he is normally the middle of a three.

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets land former Blade Egan
I have virtually written off Delcroix, Ekdal & Beyer through injury, and appearance records for Burnley. The little I have seen of Egan-Riley hints he is not a Championship top group central defender. That leaves us with Worrall (still getting to 100% fitness I suspect), Esteve who pulled a hamstring v Rovers and Humphreys (who has played just one full game). With the games coming thick and fast before Christmas, John Egan is going to be a very valuable player, and probably the closest threat in the opposition;'s box to what O'Shea had in his locker. He is also the type of player you bring on when managing a tight lead with 20 minutes to go.
For me Delcroix can definitely go in January unless we have an injury crisis and that could include Ekdal too.We may have to accept Beyer is not going to be used this season, and Egan Riley would benefit in going on loan again enabling us to make a decision on him next Summer. In summary John Egan on a years contract and FREE is very smart business, and I could see us offering him an extension later on this season

I agree with all you say. I'm just puzzled why we sold McNally. He looked capable enough in our team and for others at this level. I'm sure Egan is better when he is on top of his game and of course more experienced.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 9:31 amI have virtually written off Delcroix, Ekdal & Beyer through injury, and appearance records for Burnley. I think the jury should still be out on Egan-Riley, hasn't had the chance yet of a settled run of games. I see a good amount of promise but cautious before hanging my hat on the lad. Bit disappointing that the majority of comments on his playing abilities, are largely negative.

I was impressed with him before the Rovers game . But that cameo sub appearance that twice nearly lost us the game dislodged Tresor’s as worst short sub appearance in recent times.

It is disappointing when you consider that he came 2nd in the man of the match vote for the sunderland game and joint top in the player ratings in the same game yet everyone chooses to pan him for his appearance a week later which was only 7 minutes plus injury time. The term short memories really does spring to mind! He's still young, still learning, having played very little football at our levelDarnhill Claret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 11:05 amI think the jury should still be out on Egan-Riley, hasn't had the chance yet of a settled run of games. If we would have kept him any longer it would have been hostage. Make no bones the guy was ready for going.
Re: ARTICLE: Clarets land former Blade Egan
To be fair it wasn't just a bad performance, some of it was pretty alarming. He showed a basic lack of technique and an inaility to handle pressure which I've not seen to that extent for some time.clarets1978 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 2:41 pmIt is disappointing when you consider that he came 2nd in the man of the match vote for the sunderland game and joint top in the player ratings in the same game yet everyone chooses to pan him for his appearance a week later which was only 7 minutes plus injury time. It was one of those performances where a player looks so out of his depth you feel sorry for them, think Dane Richards, Nimani levels.
