Music Thread - JR Tolkien Pop Songs
I've not read Lord of the Rings but I was aware that some of my peers did in the 70s. So did recording artists and they created songs on the subject. I know of one or two and thought it might make slightly unusual, perhaps challenging, music thread.
I only know of three. Here's two of them:
Barclay James Harvest - Galadriel

Southern Comfort - The Passing

Re: Music Thread - JR Tolkien Pop Songs
Loads of Tolkien / LOTR references in the Led Zeppelin catalogue. Ramble On is probably the most direct & obvious.
Also, Rivendell by Rush.

A little off topic (songswise but Tolkein based) In Long Preston we have a Rohan Outlet Shop ...
Also over and around Slaidburn the number of farms and houses with Tolkein based names are many ... as Tolkein stayed at Stoneyhurst College and parts of "The Forest of Bowland" influenced places in Middle Earth.

My mate (who hates Led Zep) said Plant only had two songs- one about LOTR, and one about his knob.

Clifford T Ward did a song on 'Mr Bilbo Baggins' but I suspect it was for his children:

I suppose we should mention Marillion, who allegedly shortened their name from Silmarillion in 1981 to avoid copyright issues.

Re: Music Thread - JR Tolkien Pop Songs
Yeah, doug, I'm very fond of camel myself.
When I was young, 15-17 probably, and fairly early into my smoking career, me and my mates used to smoke all the regulars; lamberts, regal, bensons etc, but one day we 'found' (stole) a packet of filterless camels in my dads coat that'd probably been smuggled back from Turkey in the early 80's.
So we all lit up a camel, our first filterless cigs (1998 or so this) and once the coughing had subsided we were ruined. Proper high, akin to actually smoking a joint for us at that time, all that unfiltered nicotine and tar. Glorious. It became a running challenge over the next few years, 'bet you can't smoke a full camel'.
At least the kids these days will have their watermelon vapes to look back on.

Soft packet Winstons when I was a lad. Gauloise or Gitanes if we were being existential in the pub.

Soft Packet Winston isn't a nickname I've had to endure yet, but no doubt it'll happen before too long.
