Yet again our passing is atrocious. Short and under-paced. How many times the challenge comes in the milli-second the ball arrives.

Dreadful defending.

So narrow and basically let him walk into the box.

It's not an ideal time to concede, but SP will light a fire under them at HT.

I think Trafford could have done better there, but it's not his fault there are unmarked men queuing up to tap in a cross from 5yards.

We don't stretch their defenders at all. Everyone comes short. Foster is not good with his back to goal, his control isn't good enough. I wish he'd run the defenders and get Flemming in behind with some space to work with

Daft to not play Flemming, and I'll keep beating this drum, but selling Vitinho has put an unnecessary hole into our squad. He'd have been great today finding space high and wide.

No point in playing Cullen, Hannibal and Brownhill together. Too similar profile wise.

Foster nowhere near good enough today.

Very few positives from that 45 minutes. No cohesion whatsoever and only one 5 minutes passage of play the whole half.

LK looking very good. He finds space. Beats his man regularly.

That is the way to break them down in 2nd 45. Not sure who he hass to aim for, though.

Q

Was thinking this after Leeds last week.

I actually think Flemming is better as the 9 and Foster running through as the 10.

Foster can't hold the ball up, certainly not as well as Flemming.

Its a shame becuse Flemming is also better as the 10 but needs must.

One of Hannibal/Brownhill/Cullen off and Flemming on.
We could do with a bit more of a threat coming from midfield now that we're one down.

Pompey deservingly ahead. Could easily have been 2 ahead. Not sure how SP thinks we will score with Foster our lone striker. One shot on target I think

I don’t know who Phil Birds summariser is but he just gave us a lecture on the multi-ball system because Bird and himself totally missed what had happened earlier. The ref stopped the match and gave us a re-throw because there were 2 balls on the field.
It's Matt Williams the COO. Interesting how it's escalated to someone going down to have a word with the ref even though, as you say, it was down to two balls on the pitch.

Foster seems off it that first half. We seem to just get stuck on the edge of their box and become devious of ideas. Need to go at them this lot are poor and there for the taking.

Foster has created chances for himself without a terrific amount of service. His finishing may have left something to be desired, but he's not been miles off today.

Foster is laughable, absolutely no chance at automatic promotion carrying a player like him upfront. You will find more technically gifted forwards in League Two. Get Zian on

If teams like pompey and rovers are going to come and sit in then counter, we need to be braver. We're playing into their hands, with slow build up and no one running channels. We're letting them keep the pitch small

Bordering on Kompany tactics? Don’t be so disrespectful we’d have been absolutely peppering this lots goal under VK. Did you forget our Championship season? 101 points? Scored goals for the absolute fun of it

We deserve everything we've got in this half, which is nothing. Phil Bird describes the lead as a shock, not seeing the shock - they've been a **** ton more threatening than us and they've not been very threatening at all.

I think there's a reticence on here sometimes to call performances what they are. I have no agenda against any players and want all our guys to do well but if there are any children watching today who want to learn how to be a brilliant striker they should watch Lyle Fosters 45 mins and do the complete opposite.

One of Brownhill and Mejbri to be hooked for me, either is fine as they've both been diabolical. Whoever stays on will be told to assume some responsibility of shifting the ball and awful lot quicker than what we've seen so far, then Foster also. Sarmiento and Flemming to come on.

Parker said we needed to get at them and then we play walking football. Up the tempo and move them around and we will get chances. Too easy to mark us at this pace.

Williams made an absolute t*t of himself with that nonsense about getting a word down to the ref when him and Bird had both missed the fact that another ball was on the pitch.

Failing to see what Hannibal offers going forward. Doesn’t influence the game. Flemming on in his place hopefully.

I don't mind his work in the box, but his movement inbetween defenders is awful. He plays to his weakness, which is to show short with his back to goal. So many times we turn it over when he mis-controls it. He's great running towards goal, it just doesn't happen enough.

Apart from the 1-1 home draws to Watford, Stoke and Hull where we were absolutely crap, and the 3-3 against Blackpool.

Awful half. Slow. Lacking movement. Zero urgency. No real attacking intent. Foster poor (wanted him to start).

Goal looked offside to me but we need a whole different attitude second half. That wasn’t good enough.
