Best pre match breakfast place

Post by bfccrazy » Mon Sep 30, 2024 8:47 pm

Over at the weekend with a few mates and haven't been local to the area for a while so out of the loop with where we should go for a good solid breakfast... Hoping somewhere central so we can stay near the round to avoid taxis etc after it.

Any recommendations would be welcomed

Wetherspoons (Boot) not bad and cheap, and you can't really get much more central.
A few cafes scattered about as well.

I wouldn't touch a spoons for food on matchday. Far too busy and hit and miss.

Maybe the cafe near the old originals in the centre?

I would get the taxi and make sure you get a good brekky.

If you're over Padiham way.

Heard great things but was unsure if they'd do it on a match day with an early kick off

Did you mean Towneley golf club?

JJ’s is ok, but only just. Massively overrated if you ask me - I’m aware you didn’t…

Inghams diner is good I’ll give you that.

Not had a full English but sausage/bacon butty from Brambles Cafe is good.

Honestly H, I would get a taxi to JJs/Crow wood/Inghams/Bistro at Towneley. Just looked at 1855 Bistro & Bar in Mechanics which is the BLC group, opens at 11am - could be a shout.

Woulda done JJs I reckon but we've to get from hotel out of town to town and hopefully have time to get a breaky in.

Brambles looks proper tbf and might be the winner.

If you want a proper full English that doesn’t cost the earth and you wanna feel like you’re in a proper Cafe that should still have the foil ash trays on the tables then get to Brambles

Central and staff are lovely people

If you want to swerve a beans in teacups style breakfast, I'll suggest the Bullring cafe on Standish street. Seating is a bit tight, so it depends on how big your group is.

Best brekky in Burnley is Sycamore Farm but as you're after eating in town this wont be any good for you. I've heard the catering in the ground has improved a lot this season so one option is to just get some food at the game

Not in town so of no use to the OP whatsoever, but breakfasts at Loom Loft in Barrow are consistently superb.

If you're eating in the bar area then providing you dont wear it back to front you'll be good but if you want to eat in the fine dining area then you'll need to take your cap off and tuck in your shirt

Perfect, its a bit out of the way but looks like the perfect option.

Thanks again... Just need to remember to get some cash out so I can sample the delights at the ground too.

This is just a wind up in case you haven’t realised

If you don’t get the breakfast and need to resort to a pie get one from Haffners

Try the mexican taco place (yes it does a full english) place at the top of St James opposite mcdonalds, decent breakfast.

the problem with a lot of the suggestions in the town centre is that they serve cheap crap, which is the target market.

i cant stand a frozen, low meat content horrible sausage and wafter thin bacon. needs to be decent.

i wont order Sausages in a butty shop/cafe unless i can see them raw first.

Without a doubt the Lounge at Crow Wood - plus you can get a beer after 10am too...

Taxi from anywhere near the town centre is £4-£5 - well worth it.

I love Crow Wood breakfasts, I do suspect that's not what he's looking for though and he'd prefer a café type breakfast rather than a restaurant.

Scoot down to Haffners Butchers and sample some pies. It's not a breakfast but I could eat them morning, noon and night. Meat and potato followed by mince and onion. Then a cheeky pork if you can fit it in, which I always can

Crow Wood is almost certainly the best 'proper' breakfast you'll get within a couple of miles of the ground. It's not cheap, but the ingredients and service are bang on.
However, the OP's comments decrying beans in a ramekin sets the bar at a Spoons/Richmond sausage affair. Most places that take care over quality produce and presentation will use a ramekin.
JJ's/Dugdale is an average mid-level full English breakfast.
Icaro Lounge do some superb skillet breakfasts, but I suspect these will struggle to pass the entry requirements in this instance.
There's always the option of sneaking into the Holiday Inn Express ;-)

Wouldn't be an issue for me as I don't believe baked beans play any part in a full English.
