Re: Whittaker
There aren't many stand out finished products in this league, most of the young ones are just 'potential'. You could see he had vision with his intention of his passes but he obviously tried to model himself on our front lads and decided to pass to the opposition. That's about the sixth or seventh time I've seen him play (so not much) but I've never been overly impressed with him.

Re: Whittaker
Do we have a goalscorer in the U21 squad?
Re: Whittaker
I thought he was very neat and tidy with the ball, didn’t give it away once first half. Sloppier second half but you can see he has technical quality on that left foot, now imagine he was in a team that had 70% of the ball rather than living off scraps like he was.

I remember being unimpressed with Gyokeres twice in our last Championship season…

Re: Whittaker
He's on loan from Troyes I think (assuming you meant Sissoko)

Re: Whittaker
I try to imagine him in a team that doesn't get more than 25% possession if we got promoted. Honestly, I know you rate him and fair enough but I just don't see it tbh.KRBFC wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 11:24 pmI thought he was very neat and tidy with the ball, didn’t give it away once first half. Re: Whittaker
I walked to the ground with a Plymouth fan. I asked him about Whittaker and he described him as “Oydul” which I think translates as idle.
He thought we were taking the “ Moycul” with our bids this summer, but after tonight maybe we weren’t.

Re: Whittaker
Saw nothing in him that Twine didn’t have bar a bit more of a physical presence. Quite a few after him so must have something but not at the money being touted for me I’m afraid

Crap last night. But then one game doesn’t define a player.

Re: Whittaker
If he scores a couple this coming Saturday he'll be a Burnley hero without us paying a penny.

Did he even touch the ball first half?KRBFC wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 11:24 pmI thought he was very neat and tidy with the ball, didn’t give it away once first half. Not saying he's a bad player off that showing but he didn't show anything last night.
Other winger looked far more dangerous
Re: Whittaker
Not seen much of him granted, but on the basis of what I have seen - not good enough for us.

Re: Whittaker
I’m not sure about that. It’ll be interesting to see how he does if he gets a premier league move, although if it’s to a big team it wouldn’t be reflective of how he’d have done for us.Notsosuperstevedavis wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 1:38 pmHe constantly looked dangerous. I genuinely wish we’d broke the bank to sign him from Cov.
He’d have single handedly kept is up last year.
BBD scored a bag full in the Championship (although I’d agree he’s better than him)

Re: Whittaker
It was a fairly small group of players in the Championship that season though. Disagree he was the best, just didn’t lay a a glove on us at all across 180 minutes, which doesn’t make him a bad player. Same as last nights performance doesn’t make Whittaker a bad player.colne-claret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 1:59 pmI thought he looked hands down the best player we came up against all season despite no goals or assists. He looked quality and looked everything that we needed.

Re: Whittaker
He was poor at Cov. Fairly anonymous throughout, then I remember him going through 1 on 1 at the death and missing a chance that was easier to score.
Remember him running the channels well at TM, but still pretty quiet and no real goal threat.
My point was that when you’re playing in a team that doesn’t see much of the ball it’s hard to look good. We’d all have taken Gyokeres, although I think it’s telling no premier league clubs have gone in for him.

Re: Whittaker
Yes, agree.
Some will say we “missed out” on him, but I expect it was a case he was too expensive or had his sights set higher.
Re: Whittaker
Not many touches but never gave it away, big strong intelligent at finding space and a wand of a left foot. It’s a shame he’s in a poor side that don’t dominate the ball.
Re: Whittaker
That wand almost hit the Bob Lord with a shot in the 2nd half

Re: Whittaker
Can’t say I’m surprised at this judging by last nights performance. The amount of times he let Pires walk past him must be a concern and possibly why there was very limited interest in him over the summer given his goal scoring record.ClaretLoup wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 1:34 amI walked to the ground with a Plymouth fan.
