New manager in place by 2pm?
They've already interviewed his replacement by all accounts.

RVN interim manager - possibly what he wanted?
Who is available now that they might go for?

Who ever gets it has a tough job. They are a huge club with a team who are now miles behind the top teams in this league.

Not much out there who you'd think can take the job on. Seen Xavi and Zidane linked. I imagine they're kicking themselves for missing the boat with Tuchel.

Re: Eric ten Haag sacked
Whoever goes, its a long term job to clear the malaise that's hanging around the club now
They're not going to walk into the top 4 easily anymore, there's a fair amount of ground to make up and the playing squad needs looking at
Several overpaid and underperforming players there
Reminds me of Arsenal when Arteta took over, he cleared the decks and made it very clear who was the boss
Tuchel etc are all winners, they may not want the long term project

Inevitable
Put out of his misery at last. I hope he has a great success at his next club, if only to expose the problem lies within the club and dressing room.
I should think Van Nistelrooy will get the gig permanently, as you'd have to be mad to want it, and then be lucky to last a season.

Re: Eric ten Haag sacked
This wouldn’t please the fans but I’d go and get Mourinho and give him full control for a season or two.
He’d get them results out of a mediocre team, help them clear out the squad of the dead wood. I think he’d leave Turkey in a heartbeat to return to the premier league.
With the dross cleared and a steadier ship I’d then give it to a younger manager.
Have a feeling they might go for someone like Frank though.

Re: Eric ten Haag sacked
They'll go for another name in Xavi or Zidane who'll think they can get a tune out of all the Ego's, like Fernandes, man U have in that squad. Rinse repeat in two years.
That Amorim fella at Sporting might be worth a shout, realistically but can't see him wanting to risk his reputation at this stage of his career.
Realistically until they can bin off some of the absolute guff that Ten Hag has bought (Casemiro, Antony, Mount), they'll be looking at a minimum of another 2 years rebuild time.

Re: Eric ten Haag sacked
How many managers are they going to change before they realise the problem is much deeper than that
for me that team is full of players that believe their own hype and have stopped trying to improve ...
Bruno Fernandez should be the type of player that creates and does what he does best .... not bear the weight of the captaincy which you can tell affects his game
The choice or lack of choice of a captain is exactly whats wrong with Man U at present

Re: Eric ten Haag sacked
They have fallen so far down the order of top European clubs they will only sign players that are coming for the salary and not to win things. It’s a vicious circle and at the moment they are out of the loop.
I’m not smiling. No, really, I’m not.

I wonder if they have a plan for a replacement or if this yet another poorly thought out choice. Probably the latter.
Strange timing since they were really unlucky against west ham, should have scored 3 or 4 and got done over by a dodgy penalty.

I thought they'd lined up Xavi ?
Re: Eric ten Haag sacked
Mourinho, Neville and Rangnick all called it.
It isn't just the playing standards that have plumbed new depths of mediocrity at United, it's the culture, particularly amongst the players. They've gone some way to addressing that with the appointment of Dan Ashworth but I cannot think of another side in the world that needs clearing out, root and branch.
Man Utd aspire to be champions, yet not a single player of theirs would start for City, Arsenal or Liverpool assuming everyone is fit.
You might argue Fernandes possibly would but I'd argue his sort of stroppy, childish mentality, as a captain no less is precisely why they are where they are.

It’s astounding that he’s lasted as long as he has to be honest.
Re: Eric ten Haag sacked
His cup wins saved him, he was out of his depth in the league, such a shame they've sacked him. As mentioned earlier they are mid table at best.

Why would you want them to employ Englands second best ever manager and their far away most consistent over a reasonable length of time? Southgate, given the backing, would do an amazing job at United.

I've seen utd fans trying to suggest he's better than Kroos recently and that's been hilarious
Also highlights the mentality of a huge number of their fans, they just can't seem to grasp that they're nothing special anymore, including someone they view as a star player

Re: Eric ten Haag sacked
Inteesting that about Van Nistelrooy. I wonder if he turned us down because he saw this coming and fancied the job himself on a permanant deal. Thats if he did turn us down of course.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 12:24 pmInevitable

Big risk if he did do that because there's every chance now he ends up without a job when the new man comes in

Re: Eric ten Haag sacked
I can imagine us turning him down was because we didn’t want such a quick repeat of the Kompany situation. There could also have been an argument that someone with a proven track record of promotion out the championship would be a better bet.
RVN’s results as a manager haven’t been too bad, but I’d be surprised if United took a risk taking him on long term.
If I was a united fan I’d probably really want Emery. Although realistically that would be a crazy move for him. Maybe Frank from Brentford… but again I’d question if he’d actually want to make the move. As big as club as United are, the job to turn around that squad is pretty mammoth.

Ten Haag did not stand a chance with the squad he was dealt. This could run and run every couple of years. Why does Jim Ratcliffe think, and the Glazers think, he understands what is needed.

You know though when a ref like Oliver sends another ref to look at the replay then 100 times out of 100 he will side with Oliver. We have a real issue with officials not having a backbone and standing by their original decision which was perfectly fine.
If Oliver thinks that is a clear and obvious error he should ne longer be working on VAR duties

Re: Eric ten Haag sacked
I can only say what I was told Clive, but that was that he didn’t make the final five. I was told that before all the media coverage that he was a contender and I’d have liked him so was hoping it was incorrect but turned out to be so. Later heard a bit more about why - interviewed badly and wanted too much control.
They’ve subsequently released mission to Burnley and in episode 4, if memory serves correctly, you hear the panel discussing someone and coming to a unanimous no. I think that was RVN based off what I was told.
