Re: ParkerBall
Did they appoint Parker as a result of the stats, the same stats that they no doubt used to sign Houdini.

Re: ParkerBall
The problem is Anthony is clearly a Parker signing and it's Parkers decision to play him on the left with Koleosho on the wrong side.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 5:18 pmExactly that, comparing our attacking options to Leeds United and Sunderland. I don’t think we have a front 3 player who has scored more than 2 goals.
It just isn't working and he has to completely change it for Thursday imo
Re: ParkerBall
Huge mistake appointing Parker will take pace another year to realise it we’ll have to sit it out now

- The lowest XG in the ENTIRE EFL
- The lowest big chances made in the ENTIRE EFL
- Joint lowest goalscorers ENTIRE EFL
Current form has us finishing 15th, goals scored + chances made has us finishing 16th
1. Second best goal difference in the League
2. 4th and a mere three points off 2nd

I think I'd have more patience if I could see a glimmer of improvement, or understood the approach to selections and tactics. At the moment I can say neither. I think the first two games of the season mask a lot of issues.Terry Cochrane wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 5:31 pmHow about

Re: ParkerBall
Kompany last year decided what system we would play, and stuck to it long after it became clear that the players couldn't do it. This is not what a manager is for. The manager's job is to get the best out of his players, not to play a fixed system.
Parker, I fear, has the same attitude. He is going to play with two wide men and one forward, come hell or high water, and if the players aren't good enough to score goals in that system, then we must learn to watch football without goals rather than expect the manager to try anything different.

It seems with most managers these days that they are far happier failing miserably so long as they're setting a team out in their preferred formation.

"Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results" springs to mind.
Dire, below par, dismal, boring, abysmal... ad infinitum... and those are just the better terms to describe us at present

Re: ParkerBall
I think we’re set up for other teams to press us high up the pitch then we play through them on the break but if they sit back we’re clueless.
Re: ParkerBall
we are dull to watch. zero creativity. one paced with no movement. both wide men playing on the touchline which leave the centre forward isolated. 3 central midfielders are stood 2 foot away from each other offering no forward passed or linking play. this team will not get promoted and will be lucky to score 50 goals this season
boring depressing football

Re: ParkerBall
Parker as a manager has always relied upon having better players than the opposition and suffocating games in the hope that the better quality will eventually tell. It's why he's always flopped in the Premier League because then he doesn't have the better players.
Now we've got better players than most of the league but not to the same degree as he had at Fulham/Bournemouth and we're seeing the results (or lack off).

Re: ParkerBall
we don't have the individuals to change the game. we can have a solid base and control possession. but without match winners we will be stuck with what is getting served up.

Re: ParkerBall
We have 6 points that mainly came from players that are no longer here. People aren’t stupid this is a mid table championship side at the moment with absolutely drab tactics from the manager.Terry Cochrane wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 5:31 pmHow about

The squad is top six material.
Unfortunately, the manager is probably bottom half.

It's lethargic, ponderous, passionless. If anyone has honestly enjoyed that game today as a whole then fair play to you but the prospect of sitting through another 20+ games of that this season has my blood running cold.
We're doing ok for now but for me it isn't going to be long before the opposition teams we face start clueing into the fact that we are not worthy of that much respect, that they don't need to bed in against us, and if they can get an odd goal then they will very likely take the win or a draw at least.
Ahem

Re: ParkerBall
Another turgid performance where we didn't really look like scoring.
Worse than that though is fully expecting exactly the same setup, bore fest and outcome in midweek.

Re: ParkerBall
Can anyone explain what the tactics are? How is SP approaching the team and saying 'this is what we need to do to win.....'
I really cannot see any sort of system in play. Looks like we just throw 11 players out there and hope for the best.

Re: ParkerBall
I'm sure the EFL won't expunge our first two results from the records at the end of the season but these two fixtures had an entirely different side representing Burnley, a far better group of players than we have now. (Six points, nine scored only one conceded)Terry Cochrane wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 5:31 pmHow about

Why does everybody have the patience of a rabid animal these days.
On the flip side, it is unfair to judge Parker with a completely different side, thrown together in a short space of time.
The point that is being made by many (including me) is that we have a group of players better than most teams in this league, who seem to be regressing rather than improving. The defence have been keeping us in with a chance of picking up points rather than the other way around.
The toothless nature of our tactics means we are needing to keep clean sheets to have a chance of picking up points, this defeat today has been coming and the batch of games we have just played were against the teams in the lower reaches of the Championship. Portsmouth, Oxford, Plymouth, Preston, Sheffield Weds, Hull & QPR. Millwall was a test above those games and we were found seriously wanting.
I'm not spitting my dummy out because we aren't running away with the league or winning games easily, my issue is this has been coming for weeks, the lack of goal threat (explained by no natural number nine) is one thing but we aren't creating chances even if we had one. The same tactics week after week with the same outcome.
Can anyone be confident it's all of sudden going to click?

Re: ParkerBall
That was my first game this season. Watched the others on telly though. Today was absolutely woeful. Hoping it’s due to players missing and not a sign of things to come. So slow, no urgency and no movement. As bad as I’ve seen. Good day out with my Dad though.

Re: ParkerBall
Whilst manager of Bournemouth in the season 2021/22 they finished second in the table, scoring the highest number of goals bar Fulham and had the best defensive record in that league being the only side to concede less than 40 goals that season. The main striker Dominic Solanke scored 29 goals having managed only 15 the previous season under Jason Tindall.
Some ridiculous claims being made on here regarding Scott Parker’s ability when he has already proved that (given the resources) he can achieve results. Our strikers have already shown that they are bang average with none of them managing 3 goals with almost a third of the season completed.
