Stadium announcer
Stadium announcer
As the forces veterans had observed the minutes silence, they were walking away, along the Bob Lord stand, to a very good show of appreciation of clapping from all sides of the ground. That was interrupted by the totally disrespectful announcer, bellowing out” let’s hear it for the Burnley”. As the clapping had been going on around a minute, he must have heard it. But big mouth had to let his booming voice drown it out.

The “let’s hear it for Burnley” thing annoys the life out of me . Perhaps he should come on mic when we get into the opposition half and just scream shooooot to solve our attacking problems .

I think it must be few and far between that he annoys because usually following the "let's here it for Burnley" 90% of the crowd cheer, so it's resonating with some

"WE ARE MOMENTS FROM KICK OFF", he bellowed as those veterans were walking down. It was appalling and totally disrespectful. Why on earth is no one stopping this nonsense?

Re: Stadium announcer
Are we not being a bit precious here? The last post and minute’s silence were both brilliantly observed and it was taking quite a long time for all of the veterans to leave the field.

The veterans were given a standing ovation as they marched on to the pitch, they didn’t need another they left.

Re: Stadium announcer
I’ve notice at quite a few games there has been a minute’s applause instead of silence which I find really odd. But I wonder if that was the intention.Ilkley claret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 6:29 pmHe also cocked up the announcement of the minutes silence by saying a minutes applause![]()
Re: Stadium announcer
ReRileybobs, they were leaving in orderly fashion. The first veteran who had stick and I’d guess was in his 90s, had an escort hold him steady, as he slowly ( not surprisingly) made his way off. The other veterans didn’t walk past him as a mark of respect, as you would expect of our serviceman.

It's the only one for me that should always been silence, never any risk of clubs chanting things on remembrance Sunday, they'd certainly regret it if they did

Re: Stadium announcer
Has there always been a minute of silence at the game closest to Remembrance Sunday or is this only been introduced in the last few decades?
Re: Stadium announcer
Sounds like the moron needs sacking..Reading the comments on here of him.
Re: Stadium announcer
The silence wasn’t a minute either. Ref’s first mistake before kick off!

Re: Stadium announcer
We've got a minutes silence and last post because of veterans, FFS surely the imbeciles can appreciate that. Today it was like a third rate working man's club compere rushing a turn off because it was bingo time
No respect, no dignity.

Re: Stadium announcer
Yes, totally understand that. I’m just saying that it took them a long time to leave the field so I don’t feel there was anything out of order, nor would I had the referee started the game whilst they were still making their way off.Bfc wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 6:32 pmReRileybobs, they were leaving in orderly fashion. Re: Stadium announcer
He also called it the last oath, instead of the last post.
Announcing a minutes applause, caused confusion and a few did start clapping. When has there ever been a minutes applause for Remembrance Sunday?
I don’t like getting at one person, but he ain’t great. What he brings might be good for rugby etc. but it’s all too tinpot for my liking.

I think in the same way that your brain learns to tune out traffic noise when you live on a main road, I've reached the stage where I can get through 2 hours on the Turf with zero recollection of what that guy ever says.
Perhaps I'm lucky.

The ‘Let’s hear it for Burnley!!!’ gets on my wick a bit, but he also cops a lot of unfair stick on here.
He’s probably doing exactly as instructed by his paymasters. Trying to whip the crowd up.

Re: Stadium announcer
Massively unfair on here. The game needed to start, it was already running late, it's part of his pre-ko spiel. So he started it.
The remembrance service was observed impeccably and was over. Can't delay the kick off while folk just walk off.

They did and had to.
They can't start the game while thirty people walk down the touchline and quite rightly, they waited.

Yes, they obviously couldn’t start the game until the touch line was clear, but I would imagine the announcer was only acting under instruction.

Re: Stadium announcer
He has discretion. He is not told that he must say this regardless of circumstances.
Anyway, if he was only acting under instruction, then who instructed him to talk about the minute's applause?

Yet when there was an announcement made during the second half it sounded like they were using a tin can and a piece of string.
No idea what was being said but I hope it wasn’t too urgent

Re: Stadium announcer
I’ve seen more than one televised game over the past couple of weekends where the last post has been followed by applause rather than silence. I’m not sure whether it is crowds misunderstanding or whether there is a deliberate attempt for clubs to opt for the applause rather than the silence to avoid any undesirable interruptions. Either way, an applause just isn’t a fitting way to mark the occasion.
