Great result ... and good to see Mendes getting a goal and assist from the bench 👍

I wonder if beating Rovers could become a bit repetitive and boring.

Well the difference between between the U21 and First team results are startling especially when it comes to goals scored. Maybe this is just because of the level they play at or could it be the system used by Farrell/Cork ? I only see the first team play so can’t answer that question but the difference seems obvious

Three second-half goals against @academy_brfc extended our U21s' unbeaten run to nine games ✅

⚽ Tweedy
⚽ Mendes
⚽ Ryan

Late to the party… great result, well done lads and Farrell/Cork - what a season they’re having.

Tweedy seems to score every match, he’s in great form.

Probably an exaggeration but Mendes seems to score a lot off the bench, but equally doesn’t play much. Does anyone know if he’s playing left back still or left wing?

Hope we get to see the goals, wouldn’t mind seeing this trivela assist.

Think they play 2-3 "warm up" games like this and then come into the reckoning.

What are your thoughts on Redmond and the first team? I think he can play a big part.

It’s hard for me to get excited about him because we haven’t seen enough of what he can achieve. Plus he’s coming back from injury so it’s a case of how he will recover from that.

I always think it takes you a good run in a team to find form and we don’t really have the luxury of that time.

Equally, class is permanent so expect he’ll add that experience and quality in a JBG way, and wouldn’t be surprised at all if he turns out to be a revelation. I’ll be delighted if that’s so.

I don’t really know what the answer is: Redmond, Ramsey, Tresor, Benson, one of the U21’s… but I’m convinced the answer probably lies within. Jan signings would be helpful but feel Parker has the tools available to him even without the window. It’s a case of finding the right pieces to the jigsaw puzzle.

Think Redmond will be a big plus, because like Brun Larsen can play wide and more central as a striker. I feel Foster could be out for a while so Redmond's fitness is a big boost. Ekdal is a good CH, but the two players you cannot tweak right now are Esteve/Egan Riley, unless Scotty ever went to a back three

Getting a bit of a joke that Tresor hasn't played a minute of competitive football yet. I wish they'd just confirm he won't play for Burnley again if that's the case, or say why he's still not available despite him being injury free for months.

Mendes was interviewed after the match and there was mention that he had been injured.

Ah, thanks for that Commy. That explains not being in recent squads.

I don’t get to watch them a lot with the times of matches and no streams but for obvious reasons his is a name I look out for and definitely seems to be an impact player.

I would have thought there is a fair chance that the first team squad who remain have a game or two behind closed doors over the international break and given the nature of speculation about Tresor, such as this, it wouldn't be a surprise if they felt that was a better way to reintroduce Tresor. It's only a fortnight since Parker said Tresor was close to being involved.

Buy irrespective of that Redmond and Ekdal being first team fit any time before Christmas would be a huge boost. No doubt they're just embarking on their own mini pre seasons, but Ekdal is an excellent centre half option at this level to challenge Egan-Riley and Esteve, whilst at anything close to his best Redmond is a terrific attacking option at this level.

Agree.

I imagine they say nothing so as not to impact the clubs negotiation position (admitting a player has no future at the club cannot help), but then again if a player isn’t in the team the whole world knows something’s amiss anyway - they’re injury prone, not good enough or bad attitude - so the other side is you may as well not annoy fans by misleading them constantly.

That’d be the only explanation for players allegedly behind Tresor in their rehabilitation getting U21 time before him.

Won’t shock me if we get the whole ‘set back’ spiel next presser though.

I think we should lay off the conspiracy theories about Tresor, personally. Keep an open mind. Welcome the good news about Redmond without reading into it a negative about Tresor.

If we can add both of them to our pool in time for the Christmas period, it would make an enormous difference to our prospects.

You’re right.

It’s definitely very good news about Redmond, just a frustrating situation where you’re being dangled a carrot that a potentially very influential player is getting close to a return without any signs of that happening. I can handle a ballsed up transfer, every club has them and he wouldn’t be our first either, but not so much being strung along.

Like you say, best not to read too much in to it but hard not to get a tad frustrated when the team are firing blanks and he was signed in part for his assist record.

True. Don't get me wrong delighted the other two are closer, and it's only because I suspect he'd make a big difference I'm frustrated at the lack of clarity on Tresor. I don't really see the rationale for saying "due to the speculation on tresor it's better to play him behind closed doors", though. I don't see how he's any different to the other two. That said I hope you're right! I've little doubt he'll go in January but I really would like to see him prove his quality here

It won't happen because if we did that it would vastly diminish our hand if we need to sell him.

Sadly, we have to put up with not knowing.

Theres absolutely no way any club is going to pay for Tresor unless we offer a knock down price. I think European clubs may consider taking him on a loan because of his performances 18 months ago in Belgium but probably would reject "an obligation to buy" clause. I have a feeling the club is going to lose out badly with someone who was amongst our most ever expensive signings, if not the dearest. We got no selling fee for Amdouini when we are absolutely crying out for a goal scorer and not sure Benfica have an obligation to buy with him either. If you throw in Weghorst into this group of players you can start to visualise the cost to our club, and the lack of value we have got out of them.

You would have thought a professional player who has been out injured or ill for so long, would be bursting a gut to be starting and playing regularly, even if he wanted away. We witnessed a similar scenario with both Churlinov and Roberts who had serious illnesses but both got themselves fit and back in contention

Tresor will have to play u21 games to be considered for first team. Considering we are about 7 weeks away from the transfer window looks like the door for him. And good riddance.

To be fair we have no idea how hard he’s working or not behind the scenes, because we never see him, or the terms of the fee. I’ll be really shocked if it was a straight £15m with not a lot of performance elements like games played, although he was hot property at the time.

I think the loan fees we got with Weghorst meant we recovered his cost there or thereabouts, but this is the risk with older players - their value quickly diminishes. At least we don’t have that issue with Amdouni or Tresor.

Amdouni loan fee was allegedly £2m so not too bad but you’re right that certainly those three signings are looking likely to be unprofitable at the moment. Offset, of course, by some very profitable sales

I think Amdouni is turning out to be pretty average at Benfica so we may yet see him needing to come back to Burnley. That’s exactly what I’d do with Tresor - stay and fight for your place, no loans that may recoup a bit of a fee but ultimately just eat a year of his contract per the Weghorst situation.

Definitely - if he’s not involved vs Bristol, two weeks after being two weeks away - that’s it.

When was he two weeks away? Given how long since he’s been available I would suspect we would see him a few times in the u21s first.

It's boring me beyond belief. Can't we just focus on the rest of the squad?

When was he two weeks away? Given how long since he’s been available I would suspect we would see him a few times in the u21s first.
Parker said he was “a couple of weeks away from being selectable” just over two weeks ago in the Millwall press conference. Pretty sure he also said at the same time Redmond and Ekdal are behind him in terms of injury progress, yet they are now playing games so does raise the obvious question.

There’s every chance those two returnees will have a greater impact on the season anyway, so overall the news is positive, but what we’re seeing in the U21’s selection appears a bit at odds with the information from Parker.

Beginning to doubt we'll see Magic Mike again

Don't think Ekdal will get ahead of CJ, Egan or Worrall, unless Worrall is out longer, but he is due back any day now.
