There has been no mention of Sam Hanna or Joe Morton on this thread. I always got the feeling that as teachers of ‘practical’ subjects they were held in lower regard. Sam Hanna was a pioneering film maker of considerable reputation and I understand Joe Morton had been a WW2 Spitfire pilot, I’d be interested if anyone can confirm this. Happy days!
I was taught by both but I don’t think anyone could have inspired me enough for me to be competent at either woodwork or metalwork.

I always thought Morton was a decent bloke although I never had any idea of his background. I have friends who were neighbours of Hanna for years and considered him a very unpleasant man although he was good at film making.

My woodwork teacher there was an odious prick called Crabtree who once slapped me so hard across the face that I was almost knocked into the following week. I got even - I pinched his plantpot stand example, made a few tiny errors on it, submitted it for assessment and got a very high mark.
