Would you pardon your son ?
Personally I would forgive him but not pardon him. I have always taught my kids that they are responsible for their own actions and have to live with the consequences of what they do.

Of course we would.
Re: Would you pardon your son ?
I expect so. Though I would try not so promise many times in public that I wasn't going to.

Re: Would you pardon your son ?
Don’t speak for me….
I know right from wrong…. Don’t always get it right, but I at least know when I’m getting it wrong. I’ve taught my daughter right from wrong, and that she will live with the results if her decisions, good or bad.
Hunter Biden is as guilty as a puppy sitting next to a pile of poo…. His Dad, the POTUS, has repeatedly stated that he wouldn't pardon him. But in true politician stylee, he has done. He’s stated “he was unfairly prosecuted”, whilst failing to grasp the fact his lad pleaded guilty.
The whole system is flawed and how it can maintain any degree of validity is totally beyond me. This is nothing more than an absolute abuse of power.

Some major hypocrisy from Biden, leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
Re: Would you pardon your son ?
Taking the high road has got the Democrats nowhere so it makes sense that he’s done it now.
I’d be taking the p if I were Biden now and doing all sorts.

Re: Would you pardon your son ?
given his age, the fact that Trumps coming into the White House for a second time, after what he did and said after his 2020 loss and during this campaign, I think I'd be sat there thinking of my future, which surely would include my children. Given that, and that a Republican lead Senate & House, I'd probably, somewhat reluctantly, pardon my son for this offense, no I'd definitely pardon him and say F it, and them, and anyone else. I'm definitely not going to worry about someone on a random football forum saying it leaves a bad taste, you'll get over it, of that, I'm sure.

I'd be pardoning tens of thousands at this point if I were Biden and putting certain 'things' in place to stop certain 'things' from happening

With great power comes great responsibility. Those of us that are parents know this.
So no, I would not. I would parent them well from the beginning and they would never commit an offence, with luck.

What would you do if it was a murder and a 30-40 year sentence? It's a tough one. You basically don't see them again.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 3:22 pmWith great power comes great responsibility. Those of us that are parents know this.

Just completed reading firstly a book covering the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 and then President John Kennedy's assassination a year later. It is very difficult not to agree with the above comment. Some disgraceful, unforgiveable behaviour throughout and a President with the morals of an alley cat.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 2:10 pmHorrible corrupt nation. I've never really paid attention to all these American pardons, but I wish we would distance ourselves from such a corrupt nation now they have come to my attention.
It can't be one rule for the elite and one rule for everyone else, certainly not that blatant.

Re: Would you pardon your son ?
Of course it's a corrupt decision but we should hardly be surprised.
The President elect is about to be/has-been pardoned, why shouldn't the Bidens have a bit of that too?
Any pretence of justice for everyone disappeared in the States a long time ago.
At least we still pay lip service to the concept.

It's not a case of would I it's a case of how could I, america is corrupt!
Some ordinary kid will be getting sent down for the same offence whilst the most powerful man in the world son is walking free and they have the cheek to call Russia and China!

Re: Would you pardon your son ?
There wouldn't have been a need for a pardon if they had stuck to the plea deal. He was facing 25 years in jail for things that normally carry a warning at most. But the house republicans put pressure on the judge so here we are. Of course I would pardon my son rather than let him die in prison for a non offence.
Re: Would you pardon your son ?
I would, but I shouldn't be allowed to.In a democracy, nobody is above the law,and no one person should be allowed to change laws for their own benefit.

Re: Would you pardon your son ?
The most interesting part of the blanket pardon is the starting date of Jan 1st 2014. This ties in with the first stage of the US involvement in Ukraine and the whole range of Biden family alleged corruption ( Burisma etc)
One huge variance between US and UK elections is the post election transition period. UK is virtually none. US is approx 2 months during which time the outgoing government can introduce anything they like to simply cause problems for the new gov.
With the UK system any contentious decisions made by the incumbent gov have to be made pre election and therefore can effect their chances of retaining power.
I know which system I prefer for sure

He has been pardoned for any offence over a decade so i doubt it was just one non offenceCardclaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 4:16 pmThere wouldn't have been a need for a pardon if they had stuck to the plea deal. Re: Would you pardon your son ?
I’ve just read that Biden has, thus far, pardoned 26 people (including his Son) but the Donald in his first stint as President actually pardoned 143 people. Is that right!!!!
Re: Would you pardon your son ?
Pardon my Son? If I had Biden's power 100% yes,it's his son ffs do you blame him I certainly don't.
Re: Would you pardon your son ?
We deal with them because they are one of our biggest customers,we deal with them because as a very very powerful military they are also a democracy and they shield us from Soviet aggression etc, we deal with them on technology sharing re science, engineering and medicine etc, we deal with them because we would have been overrun by Hitler and they fed and saved us then, we deal with them because of such things as intelligence sharing re terrorism. One old guy gets his son off a charge and the anti American crowd want us to be isolated, poorer,in danger and technologically backwards.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 2:10 pmHorrible corrupt nation. I'd sooner cosy up to America than cosy up to groups like the Taliban,North Korea, Hamas, Hezbollah who share your sentiments re America.

Stupid and hypocritical decision by Biden and completely removes his "higher moral ground"! Now Trump has carte blanche to pardon the J6 riotors who were attempting to basically overthrow democracy. Weird nation with some extremely weird rules!

Using the power freely granted to you by the Constitution of your country isn't abuse of a position of power. The system stinks, but what he has done is totally within the letter, and probably the spirit too, of US law.dougcollins wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 5:01 pmNo. Abuse of a position of power is one of the worst things to do.

Indeed. i'd certainly be pardoning anyone in jail for non violent cannabis offenses. I cant see the justice in having dispensaries selling weed while having people locked up for the sameVegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 3:11 pmI'd be pardoning tens of thousands at this point if I were Biden and putting certain 'things' in place to stop certain 'things' from happening

This is such a tricky one but think I agree with GetIntoThem.
What I wouldn’t do is promise on numerous occasions beforehand not to do the dirty deed. Biden comes across as a weak liar who has lost all moral authority.
