Dara Costello
Given our troubles scoring, which to be fair looks like it’s improving, would there be any mileage in recalling Costello back from Stanley in January. Could it even be done or is it a season long loan? Only reason for asking is he seems to be having a reasonable season with Accy, scoring a couple of vital goals too. He might not be the answer obviously because we need experience in that department but given that he didn’t look completely out of his depth in a handful of PL games he might be a decent emergency cover after A N Other (if we get him) and Jay.

Re: Dara Costello
I agree with johnnyjones. And he doesn't exactly stand out for Stanley.

I don't even remember him playing in the PL for us.

He didn't. Started the Championship season under Kompany.

Whilst you might be quite right, would you not also have said the same about Egan Riley three months ago?

No, because he wasn't playing in League 2.Guller Bull wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 5:53 amWhilst you might be quite right, would you not also have said the same about Egan Riley three months ago?
Re: Dara Costello
We are scoring now and have attacking players almost ready to come back into the squad. We don't need to be drafting in L2 players just yet

Re: Dara Costello
I've seen him a few times for Accrington in whole games on TV. Unfortunately he fits in at that level. He does not stand out.
You also have to ask 'who would he replace in the current Burnley side'? I can't think of anyone in his position - winger/forward - at Burnley that isn't better - much better.

Re: Dara Costello
His contributions are comparable to Adam Phillips at Morecambe who's now playing in League One for Barnsley. Phillips has scored 5 this season in 13.
Phillips was a similar age at Morecambe and we recalled him to send him to Accy in January (in League One at the time) where he struggled.
Everytime I've seen Costelloe he's been playing on the right and not through the middle. We don't really need another winger with Redmond back on the bench.
Delighted for him that his stint with Accrington is going well. He's still only 21 and it seems like he's improved since his stint at Bradford in January 23 where he showed promise but not much end product.
We need to give these lads time to adapt and develop at their own pace and not try and force it. Hountondji is the same. He might need a loan spell away before he's ready for the first team. Can you imagine recalling Costelloe and then leaving out Flemming, Redmond, Benson, Anthony, Ramsey, Jay, Tresor, Koleosho or Sarmiento to fit him in?

He was picked to play at Stamford Bridge but he didn't want to go.

Nowhere near good enough for us. Jay with Foster returning is enough until January.

Re: Dara Costello
As things stand Costello would be nowhere near our first team if recalled. He seems to be doing ok at Accy and maybe he's learning plenty and could develop to a higher standard, who knows but league two is eons below ours currently.
As an aside, I'd allow Accy to play him at Anfield in the cup if selected, because it'll be a great experience for all their players and one they may never get again and it would seem churlish if we insist Dara sits it out.

Re: Dara Costello
He's the same age as JRod was whilst out on loan at Barnsley...where he certainly didn't tear any trees up.
But go for it, you experts...get him binned off now.

Re: Dara Costello
He has the chance to show the world how good he is against Liverpool in the cup.
Re: Dara Costello
Rodgriguez had already played 35 times and scored 5 goals before going to Barnsley. He had a loan before that at Sterling Albion where he scored 3 in 11 appearances.
Costelloe has played nearly 60 games in League Two and in Scotland. A few seasons back we got rid of the likes of Phillips, Dunne and Benson because they were too old to play for the 23s anymore and presumed to be not good enough for the first team. I wonder if the switch back to u21s will influence how long we keep young players. If Costelloe has a good season and can get a loan at a higher level next season he could be a useful option should we go up and come straight back down or he could be another player sold for profit. He's still got plenty of potential as an asset for the club which I'm sure is how Alan Pace sees him.
I'm surprised that people who've seen him haven't been impressed. 5 goals in his last 9 league games. Whenever you see the highlights he features heavily in a lot of Accrington's forward play.

Re: Dara Costello
Apologies for my mistake. Of courage it was the Championship he played in not the PL. But my suggestion was not to replace anyone just for emergency cover. It does seem he’s been written off by many when he did show potential with us.

I can’t imagine us not allowing him to play at Anfield; he’s already played in the first two FA Cup rounds for them.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 10:22 amAs things stand Costello would be nowhere near our first team if recalled.
