If Ashley comes on for Norwich on Sunday it could be very interesting.

Barnesy had the younger players hanging on his every word and looking up to him in the Championship walkover season ... Benson and Zaroury treated him like a deity ... When Ash left, their va-va-voom went along with him and tge rest is history.

Not sure why you mention Trafford

I would say it about any ex player and I would certainly hope that any Burnley fan would not want him to have a good game on Sunday.. that would just be weird

That may be so, but Ash was the epitome of a Burnley player under the Dyche regime. If there was any doubt as to his status as a Burnley legend, knocking Rovers goalie into the back of the net sealed his lofty position as a modern day Burnley player. And no, I don’t think it would be good for him nor the club if he came back.

Ashley Barnes had quite a mixed career at Burnley, some ups and some very poor spells.
but he scored against Rovers and pushed their goalie into to net... hence his legendary status. That's all that matters to some of our supporters.

What if Barnes gets 3 and we get 4. Happier?

What if Tresor gets 8 and Barnes gets 9.

Do you want to calm down a little bit?

There is a middle ground between hoping a Burnley legend "fails miserably" and hoping we get stuffed by his team.

Zaroury put it on plate for him and if he'd have clattered the keeper like that in the Premier League he'd have been sent off.

I hope he plays and gets snuffed out by our central defenders. I alo hope our crowd give him the warmest of welcomes.

It is true that he helped Benson and Zaroury and they visibly adored the guy.

Pish. He had a slow start down to injurys mainly. And arguably lost some time at his peak because of them. When he was given the time up top he developed into a very capable premier league footballer. He adapted his game to be a menace to defences with his technical aspects often being overlooked. But he could hit a ball. And scored a good few screamers over his time with us. But above all else he was a man that gave it all, took it all and seemed a good character around the club. While pushing the bastards keeper into the net cemented legendary status. It was the few seasons he was an absolute menace to the back 4's of a lot of big premier league sides that made him a legend.

To do what? Surely you don't mean play football?

Was excellent for us but probably stuck around eighteen months or so too long due to us not having an adequate enough transfer policy to replace him. (Will rightly go down in history for the 3-0 derby win.)

Now I've said that - watch him bag at the weekend!

Did he have a mixed career?

Had a slow start but never looked back until age caught up with him. He was a club legend way before the Rovers goal imo.

For the record I hope we batter Norwich and I also hope if Barnes plays he's his typical **** house self.

For what it matters I've always liked him, but i will stick with my opinion of his overall performance for BFC. Some very good, some not so.

Our biggest ever legend Jimmy Mac played against us when he left for Stoke City but I don’t think one person in the crowd begrudged him a brilliant game ,some things are more important than results

There's some proper tools on here now, you can welcome back an ex player who by and large gave his all for the club, without wanting him to end up on the winning team.

I would never want any ex player to end up on the winning side against us, however good they were for us, legend or not, and very happy for them to have a poor game

One of my favourite ever players. Find it hard to relate to the current crop as I did back when Barnes was a mainstay in our team.

I went to that game at Stoke in November 1963. Ended 4-4. Jimmy Mc was my boyhood hero and those years I saw him play 1958 to early 1963 were absolutely wonderful. I was only 11 when I went to the game with my family but I had no interest in how well he played that day. We'd all gone in the car to the match to support our team.
I was fed up at half time when they were 3-0 up and elated an hour later when two goals in the last few minutes got us the point.

I don't want him to help Norwich get anything but I'm sure he'll get applauded abundantly after the game.

It will be weird for him. I imagine he'll have mixed emotions.

There's no doubting he's a rascal but he showed his maturity during his last season as stated above.

I was only 11 when I went to the game with my family but I had no interest in how well he played that day. We'd all gone in the car to the match to support our team.
I was fed up at half time when they were 3-0 up and elated an hour later when two goals in the last few minutes got us the point.
I can also remember that game and had similar feelings to you there are certain ex players who I could boo playing again us and some who I couldn’t Jimmy Mac was one and any of the 59/60 team,Barnes ,Trevor Stephen ,Tarkowski ,Willie Morgan and a lot more ,the first one who I’d boo even though he scored at Ewood would be Jason Shackell and Tresor when he’s gone.

He was excellent for us over many seasons and was a huge part of the best team I've seen at Burnley and I'm 66! Yes, he wasn't technically the best and because he's human he had some sub par games and "spells", but overall , brilliant (and an absolute bargain!) and he certainly deserves a warm reception if he plays at all. Having said that, I obviously hope he does crap in this particular game if he is involved. As an aside, I think it's in one of the MTB episodes (series 1) where Kompany makes it clear he doesn't like the huge influence Ash has in the dressing room and the way so many of the other players look up to him. He makes it clear that's a big factor in "moving him on".

I saw Barnes as very technical. He had a great first touch that allowed him to strike a ball really cleanly at times too.
