Re: Egan-Riley
A prime example of why players need time to bed in and fair play to Parker for sticking with him through his shakey start at the start of the season
Seeing him play under VK and up north I knew there was a real player there but he’s come on massivley
What a player

I liked it when he kept Trafford on his toes with the gentle pass back, but overall did fine.

Not only is he turning into a fine defender, it’s clear that he’s a leader.

I love his little angelic chubby cheeks. The best I've seen since the 1980's comedian and TV presenter Gary Wilmot.Stonehouse wrote: ↑Sun Dec 15, 2024 5:41 pmI liked it when he kept Trafford on his toes with the gentle pass back, but overall did fine.
Seriously though he slotted easily back into his central position , took control when Steve went off and is one good player !
Re: Egan-Riley
Agree. Captained City’s youth sides to many titles. Follow him on instagram and he’s seemingly a very popular player with teammates and former teammates.

He was absolutely sensational today.
I can't recall many players who have improved as much, as quickly, as he has. Fair play to him.

Re: Egan-Riley
Sorry - I didn’t see it like that - thought his passing was very poor at times and he looked rusty having been out for a bit. Almost cost us the game too. A long way from sensational or immense. Love him to sign a new contract but I think today’s love-in is mis-placed.

Re: Egan-Riley
The love-in is not just about the Norwich game, but his steadily improving performances since he stepped into the first team. Players will make mistakes, some of them costly, it's all part of the game, but CJ is showing his value and worth to the team.
8 conceded in 20 games and only 2 defeats.

Ah just checked again. Indeed it runs out end of this season. Not good at all as he'll no doubt wait until the summer to see where we are.

Re: Egan-Riley
I thought that C J was excellent throughout the game. I'd like to put a shout out for John Egan though too. Like many around me I was a bit concerned when Esteve was substituted, but I thought JE did a great job. I thought that the center half pairing was what got us through a pretty nervy and uninspiring first half. They both also looked very comfortable with the change to three at the back in the second half.

Re: Egan-Riley
So, a bit of digging r.e CJ's contract.
Most articles seem to say he signed a four year deal (example: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62009389).
However, the Burnley official site gave his announcement as a three year deal (https://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/con ... s-a-claret)
What's odd is that the Tweet the club put out when we signed him said it was a four year deal as well (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q ... i=89978449)
Maybe the truth is a 3 year deal with option? I am going to hazard a guess that we have him for another season after this and that is why there has been little talk about this potential issue anywhere but between us all on here.

You'd think the club would have a better idea than the BBC.
I'm leaning more towards his contract running until 1st July 2025 with no option.

He has been brilliant since he came into the team this season but yesterday definitely wasn't his best game.
His passing at times was certainly off the mark, lets hope as you say that he was just a bit rusty.

Nearly scored as well!
Delighted for the lad, really stepped up and the shirt is his to lose at the moment.

What I didn't realise is that he cost £350,000-750,000. (Burnley Express)

Re: Egan-Riley
I, too, thought John Egan did well yesterday. A tough away fixture on paper but he grew into the game, settled things down and got in the way of everything in those last few frantic minutes. We'll done JE from another JE. A surname like that just has to be a Claret through and through.eastanglianclaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 9:25 amI thought that C J was excellent throughout the game. Re: Egan-Riley
Would have been a great question to ask Pace at his q and a session. Wonder if he would have known the answer without research Referring to ER contract
Re: Egan-Riley
Who scored have him as the 4th best centre back in the Championship but no Esteve

I think he's been brilliant this season, but yesterday I thought his passing early on was terrible, the back pass was also horrendous,. Fortunately for us he bounced back and got better the longer the game went on.

it's easy to highlight his only 2 mistakes. He was excellent... as was Egan.HuncoatClaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 6:56 pmI think he's been brilliant this season, but yesterday I thought his passing early on was terrible, the back pass was also horrendous,. No, he was really poor for the first 25 mins, but like all good players do, he bounced back well.

We'll have to agree to disagree then, given Esteve's issue and other players being a bit off the pace I think he did very well.HuncoatClaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 9:27 pmNo, he was really poor for the first 25 mins, but like all good players do, he bounced back well.
Egan for Esteve made a real difference.

Re: Egan-Riley
!00% agree, he visibly demands better of players around him when necessary and seems to have no problem arranging the defence, he has a presence which a captain has to have unfortunately JB seems to focus on his own game more than the team and as much as I like JB he`s not really captain material IMO
