Midfield looks very unbalanced/lacking creativity. Worried today might be another frustrating one.

7 centre backs in the matchday squad is a concern about where we are in regards to attacking options

I remember someone asking earlier this week for examples of Parker playing players out of position.

Here you go, there's a minimum of 2 right here.

And a bench full of centre backs. Odd one. Hope it's some tactical master plan.

This would have been ideal to try Flemming in the 10 whilst Sarmiento is out and give Houtondji a start, as a striker. Instead we play 4 defensive midfielders and Flemming up front, who isn't an out and out striker. It's really weird and often why we seem to start games so slowly.

At least that shows certain people the club do know the rules concerning Sarmiento. It's bad news but he'll be back on Boxing Day.

It's good to see Steve back and Hannes Delcroix on the bench. We'd all (I think) like to see Redmond back but he's picked up a new injury (calf?) and we cannot take chances on that.

The heavy midfield allows any one of them to run into the box and support Flemming. They can also carry the ball with confidence, knowing they aren't leaving a hole behind them for Watford to exploit.
I'm not saying it will work, but at least it's different. I'd still prefer Jay or Houtonji up top with Flemming behind, but we have the options on the bench to mix it.
I have a feeling Watford will show a bit more attacking intent than most of the teams that turn up. I hope so.

Most people would like to see Flemming tried as a No 10

Except Parker ??

Lots of managers on this thread, maybe Hannibal & Cullen more defensive and Laurent & Brownhill box to box

Definitely done the right thing not starting Hountondji-he may have potential but needs to be the first loan out we make this window

Always love this thread where the usual suspects log in to complain for the next 4 hours and beyond.

I’ve just looked up Joe Westley, played 26 minutes of National League football off the bench for Rochdale. Not sure how that warrants being on the bench for a Championship game.

It’s a strange one with Hannibal over Koleosho but apart from that there isn’t anyone (Flemming is an 50/50 call for out of position). And it’s anyone’s guess if Luca is 100% fit. As for the bench you’ve got Agyei, Redmond, Tresor, Benson, Foster, Sarmiento and Massengo all unavailable so I’m not sure it’s by design.

Flemming isn't a 50/50, he's out of position as a lone striker and it's shown every game. You could argue 50/50 if he was part of a front 2.

There's a few possible formations but in all of them there's a 2 players out of position.

3 at the back you've got Anthony and Flemming out of position. 4-5-1/4-3-3, you've got Hannibal and Flemming out.

Regardless of Flemming, which seems the main issue, the original poster claimed there were ‘mind boggling’ players out of position, I mean unless you’re super dense none of that is mind boggling, given the lack of options - which is why I questioned the hyperbolic nature of the claim. It’s another absolutely weak bench. Can count on one hand the amount of good benches we’ve had this season and 2 of them were in the first two games.

You could make a tactical arguement for it because Watford are very weak in midfield, with Sissoko not much or a runner, so maybe the plan is to absolutely dominate in there. Just feel it'll be too congested in the middle and we'll have very little out wide plus not much going on in the box.

There's 2 strikers on the bench when we have a 10 being played upfront, a 10 who has shown game after game he's not a lone striker. Our only run of good performances came with an actual striker up front. It is mind boggling he persists with that.

There's an 8 on the right wing when you have a winger on the bench.

It doesn't have to be a weak bench, if he played players in position it would be much more balanced.

I've watched a lot of the U21s. Westley isn't at the level and I'm not sure he's a fit for our first team, he's pure poacher - I don't think there's really a place for that kind of player at this level and above. Obviously Mellon isn't available but he's twice the player Westley is (if not more).
