Trafford- 5. Has no idea when to speed a game up. Never known a goalkeeper slow it down as much as him with time running out

Roberts- 6. Did okay
CJ- 8. Man of the match. Enough said.
Esteve- 7.
Pires. 4. Doesn’t look like a footballer

Cullen- 7. How we take him off is beyond me
Brownhill- 5. Tries to do far too much. If you give him the gloves he’d want to play in goal too

Anthony- 6. Needs to beat a man.
Sarmiento- 6. Quiet
Koleosho- 3. God awful. Hope he gets rested for the season now.

Rodriguez- 4. Non existent

Subs
Flemming- 7. Got stuck in and got involved
Foster- 7. (+1) got stuck in
Hannibal- 4. Stupidity to get sent off
Humphreys- 6
Laurent- 6

Will we ever look like breaking a team down. Brownhill is not a holding midfielder. And I cannot believe we take our best ball playing midfielder off when we need to try and unpick a defence.
Exactly as I saw it, if Brownhill wasn`t hooked because he is captain then Parker needs to either grow a pair or choose a more appropriate captain i.e. C J Egan Riley as he IMO has been our most consistent player and is very vocal on the pitch.

Hannibal 3 - the guy can't control himself. What a cowardly thug he is, stamping on a man when he's on the floor.

I've managed to get to 7 home games this season, and 4 of them have been 0-0. Today wasn't like the others though because Stoke really should have won. After the high of Sheffield United, when Parker found a cohesive system, it was 2 steps backwards today. Hopefully today was simply about rotation.

Mad isn’t it, I’ve also been to 7 home games, seen 8 goals. Five of those were in one game.

Some wetters out tonight. To give so much criticism just isn't fair. We weren't great to watch but we had a very good penalty claim which could easily have gone our way and we had ssome reasonable chances and conceded very few. We continued a run of being very difficult to beat and we actually moved up a place in the table.

Keep some context.

Trafford 8 - a good 1v1 stop and generally very good.
Roberts 6 -
Egan-Riley 7 - not as enamoured as others. Some sloppy play.
Estève 7
Pires 6 - getting unfair pelters. One move in particular was kept alive by him racing down the wing. Defensively isn't as bad as claimed.
Cullen 6 - steady self but a number of poor passes in 1st half.
Brownhill 6 - had his chance to win it for us.
Koleosho 6 - Not as awful as his press. He lacks an end product but he works and he is one of our few players who run AT the defence.
Sarmiento 5 - Nice touches but nothing to aim at.
Anthony 6 - Some poor choices and not matching recent form.
Rodriguez 4 - Love him but his legs can't get him there.

Flemming 5 - Not a natural striker. Missed a chance where he could have shot.
Laurent 4 - Missed the header to win it.
Hannibal 3 - What can you say?

I said it on the match thread. I've said it ad nauseam but we are desperate for someone who can lead our line. It will give our wingers a direction. It will give our full-backs an outlet. It might not work in the prem (if we get there) but in this league it is making our play even more lethargic. JR is even less dangerous than his injury plagued seasons. Nobody else can do it.

You are right, it was not a foul by Hannibal but he'd already had an incident when this defender, Tchamadeu, got a yellow. After the 'foul' Hannibal stepped on Tchamadeu's chest. Of course he made a meal of it but.......
He stood on his groin and how are you to know how much that genuinely hurt? Lots of meals are made in every game of football these days but the only person being unsportsmanlike in that scenario was our player.

Taken as a standalone match, it was a poor – we could have played all night without scoring – match. Put in context, match 25 in four and a half months with a very high number of injuries following on from a transfer window from hell, it’s a point earned (IMHO) because we could have lost it. I was sure Gallagher’s header was going in. And I said to my lad, that header going wide makes me think we might have what we want come May.

Five points from the last three is a solid haul. Let’s make it six from four and breathe.

Not going to add comments against individuals today because I felt apart from a bit of fatigue the performance was all manager related and it warrants explanation to that instead. Back to odd decisions and obvious coaching drills that are taking the initiative out of some players (e.g. wingers coming back to receive or cutting in, to avoid the ‘risk’ of losing possession down the line).

The crazy decisions were numerous:

1. Playing Anthony and Luca on the sides where it has been shown not to work and never switching them.
2. Playing Jay ahead of Foster, however many minutes Lyle is fit for
3. First subs being to take off a striker and winger and replace with two midfielders - when we were struggling to score
4. Foster coming on after 78 then playing BEHIND Flemming - obvious Parker doesn’t trust him up front after this

What is crackers is that we are 2nd after a crazy window ending which is the best we could have hoped for - but we have left 10-15 points out there and it feels like we may regret them. There is a chance we go up, but I had to force myself to go today, despite having paid for the seats, that isn’t normal for me after 40 years, and it was because I knew what was coming, and it turns out I was right.

The issue was that with his two previous promotions he had in Solanke and Mitrovic what equates to a FC25 cheat code. He doesn’t have that here. He has a strong defence and he should be trusting it to hold the fort during a bit more attacking intent.

Risk aversion isn’t the Burnley way (though some pragmatism is needed in the PL), I like Parker a lot but these home games against minnows aren’t far off persuading me that he isn’t the right man. It doesn’t get us out of bed in the morning and people are starting to vote with their feet. All we need now is a bloody drum and home games will be intolerable.

I hope for two things - a couple of marquee January signings that make us more dynamic despite the Parker framework, and wins against Sunderland and Leeds to show we can do it at home in bigger games that are more open. So I am not anti Parker yet but he has to change.

Trafford 6 couple of decent saves, but plays like we are 1 -0 up, and his lack of urgency is often the start of some our crab like build up.
Roberts 7 defended pretty well and had a shot and even a header
Egan-Riley 7 not as dominant as usual
Estève 7 as above but we still kept a clean sheet
Pires 5 showed Cannon inside for his shot against the bar. Bashir looks a way better footballer for me epitomised by his excellent ball to tee up Brownhill for the last minute scramble.
Cullen 6 busy as usual but not able to cut through the lines
Brownhill 6 I like the way he ghosts in late to the box, if only we had wingers who could get to the bye line more often for the pull back. A bit unlucky with his late chance I thought, got his shot off but Stoke got bodies in the way.
Koleosho 3 end product was zero, can’t think of a single chance he set up apart from his own shot which ended up between the goal and the corner flag. Coughed up the ball a couple of times fairly deep in his own half which set up Stoke attacks.
Sarmiento 4 not really sure where he was playing but wherever it was, he was no threat to the opposition
Anthony 5 our best forward on the day, but still largely ineffective. A couple of poor wayward shots, but at least he had a do.
Rodriguez 4 not at the races today

Flemming 4 made no difference
Laurent 4 easier to score than miss right at the end
Hannibal 3 if you are going to stamp on somebody, don’t do it 10 yards from the referee Ffs

Charlie 10 (MOTM) the lad who put the ball about three inches from the centre spot in “Spot On”

Mr Shouty 3 not sure if they were booing him for swizzing Charlie out of his £2k or his inane interview with Andy Payton.

With some of the previous stalemates I have been frustrated but today I was irate and annoyed. I felt that some of the players let themselves and the manager down quite badly with their level of performances. Maybe I am especially grumpy as I had a seven hour round trip behind the wheel today extended by an hour by the A59 closure forcing me to drive along narrow flooded B roads across the Yorkshire Dales only to find the Park View chippy was closed on arrival.

Pires, Koleosho and Jay Rod had poor games, others too. Stoke came to battle and we should be rolling over sides like them because our players are generally better, but if half the team plays poorly that's what happens. With hindsight the team that ended the game (minus Hanibal) would have won that game but it's understandable that Parker has to rotate players.

The midfield was unbalanced. Brownhill often struggles to get into the game when he's playing alongside Cullen. Wingers struggles to get into the game and Jay was lost.

All opinions I suppose but I've never liked the argument that 'if we'd have had a penalty given or the ref had sent XYZ off when he should've then we've won".

If you're relying on referees decisions to win you a game then you've not done enough, simple as that imo.

Amazingly we are 2nd in the league with more than just a string of poor, inadequate performances behind us. The manager got it badly wrong in his planning and later on his players did likewise. Again, it's wondrous how a club are currently second in a so-called competitive league with so much 'dead wood' in its playing staff.Too many players on show yesterday that I wouldn't miss if I never saw them play again for us. Sadly, that isn't going to happen

Trafford - 7 A couple of good saves, but ponderous - may have been the lack of movement up front - almost dispossessed on 1 occasion, and CJ seemed to lose confidence in him when Traff failed to come to collect and CJ put the fall out of play, then did it a few times after that.
Roberts - 6 Not at his best, sold Koleosho short a couple of times, but Koleosho is on his heels way too much. However always shows.
Pires - 7 A decent game for me, better defending than usual and got in some key blocks. A couple of mistakes, waiting for the ball go for a corner and allowing the attacker to recover it, and allowing the attacker space for the shot that hit the bar.
Egan Riley 7 - Steady, but I've come to expect more than that from him.
Esteve - 7 The further away from our goal he is the better defender he is. Allowed their substitute a header that went narrowly wide at the end.
Cullen - 6 Another not at his best, not as sharp with his passing as he usually is.
Brownhill - 6 Again, steady but I expect more - like hitting the target when he has good chances.
Sarmiento - 6 Beginning to wonder if he's too fragile, starts well, takes a knock or two and gradually diappears.
Koleosho - 5 Some good moments from the youngster - usually when he passes. Seems to beat players with ease, usually when going across the pitch but then is dispossessed by the 3rd, 4th or 5th opponent. Wish he wouldn't allow himself to be forced inside - go to the byline.
Anthony - 7 I thought their left back looked very good up against Koleosho, but when Anthony moved to that wing and after he got on the end of a heavy foul, he seemed to have the fullback on toast and got better as the game went on.
Rodriguez - 5 Rarely involved.

Don't usually score the subs, as they're only on for a limited time, but I'll make an exception for one.

Hannibal - 3 On for what 12 minutes, and managed to get so wound up he earned himself a red from an inept Ref. Takes some doing that - and not in a good way. MORONIC performance. He's much better than that.
